If you’re looking for a cute, simple treat to give to family and friends this 4th of July weekend, I have just the thing for you–cupcakes! You can’t go wrong with cupcakes. :) At the amazing EVO’10 Conference we went to last weekend Provo Craft shared a great way to package up cupcakes using small plastic cups, cello bags and festive gift tags!!! I may have squealed with delight when I saw this idea. Simple genius, using clear plastic cups to protect the frosting.  I wish I would’ve thought of it myself :)

Supplies to make 4th of July cupcake gift bags:

  • Small clear plastic cups (the ones I used were 9 oz)
  • Clear cellophane bags (mine are 4 x 9.75 inches)
  • Wooden skewers (such as for grilling or making kabobs, approx. 12 inches long)
  • ribbon
  • gift tags

You’ll need cupcakes, of course! I ran out of time to bake my own, so it was The Sweet Tooth Fairy to the rescue with their creamy red velvet cupcakes! They went perfectly with my patriotic 4th of July color scheme! :)

The steps are super easy:

Simply place the cupcake into the clear plastic cup. It fits perfectly! Just try not to drop the cupcake upside down and mess up the frosting like I did at EVO. :)

Then place the cup + cupcake into the clear cello bag.

Stick the wooden skewer into the center of the cupcake and push all the way down.

Tie a coordinating ribbon around the cello bag, then add your gift tag with tape to the wooden skewer. That’s it! ( I also decided to add a navy blue cupcake wrapper around the cupcake, just for an added pop!)

These simple cupcake gifts would be great for your 4th of July BBQ’s and parties this weekend. I also thought it would also be cute to add these fun 4th of July paper lollies to the skewers for something different, or what about 4th of July paper pinwheels?? TOO CUTE.   You can get creative and adapt this same idea for birthdays, bridal and baby showers, and any holiday! Your fam and friends will think you’re the craftiest chick on the block! :)

So, you know how I love to share!! :) I made some simple, free 4th of July gift tag cupcake toppers you can download. They are on 4×6 sized documents that can be printed inexpensively at home or your favorite photo lab. You don’t only have to use them as cupcake toppers, you can use them as simple gift tags, or as place settings for your 4th of July BBQ, the sky is the limit! I left the bottom one blank so you can add your own words or names if you would like. :)

{I used GG Digital Designs “Old Glory” digital scrapbooking kit for these toppers, it’s one of my favorite patriotic digi kits out there!)

Have a safe and fun holiday weekend! xoxoxo

Ummmm….perfection!! I LOVE it. That idea solves a myrid of cupcake giving dilemmas. You might have just solved the key to world peace. Congrats! And that gg kit has been calling my name. LOUDLY. I’ve been resisting, ’cause I know I don’t need it. I mean, I won’t die. Maybe I will. Shoot. I guess I gotta go get it!

Ellie g, how I love you. :) Yeah, I wish I would’ve thought of the cup idea myself, it’s brilliant. And just go get that Old Glory kit already, you won’t regret it. :) I would hate it if you died, then we wouldn’t get to enjoy your fabulous comments here and your awesome + hilarious blog too!!!!

I didn’t attend the food workshop, but I saw these cute packages all over at EVO. Totally beats my travel version in the red plastic cup…Don’t know why I didn’t ever think to use a clear cup and make it a bit cuter. In any event, LOVE your holiday version. So cute!!!

LOVE them Brookie!! So super fun. I am for sure making cupcakes on Saturday now. I just wish I lived closer to The Sweet Tooth Fairy!
Acutally, maybe I don’t…that could be a bad thing.

Oh these are so cute. Love the packaging. Such a great way to keep them safe if transporting too. Thanks for the download! Your little cake toppers are perfect too. They are just the “cupcake” in toppers.

This idea is so brilliant! I have the hardest time trying to find an easy way to gift cupcakes. Unfortunately I didn’t have any of those cool clear bags, so I sorta improvised. Thanks for the idea though, I can’t wait to use it again in the future !! :) Here’s a picture of my using your cute banners –> http://thealonsos.blogspot.com/2010/07/im-so-cool.html
