I’ll just come out and say it, we LOVE Family Home Evening at our house. My 4 year old lives for FHE and insists that we have it at least 3 times a week. What I don’t love are the FHE boards–we had one growing up. I can still picture it, a half circle painted blue with 6 bears representing each family member and hearts hung on small nails underneath with our responsibilities. My mom was a huge tole painter so it was way fancier than it sounds–lots of dotting, floating, and c-strokes. I don’t know what I have against them–because I recognize their purpose, I just don’t want to give up wall space I suppose. And then there is the whole issue of whether your family is done growing or not. Do you make a new one for every child, or put plenty of extra blanks on just in case?
After one too many arguments over who was in charge of what I threw together this:
And hung it on the fridge.
Don’t be jealous. #1 it is very ugly and #2 it is 12 x 12″ and was hanging on the fridge. That’s a lot of valuable real estate.
I decided to reclaim my fridge and redo the Family Home Evening chart.
I picked up some magnetic paper and bottle caps at Hobby Lobby and got to work. The tags* were printed on the magnetic paper and our heads on photo paper.
And ta da!
A much, much cleaner fridge front that doesn’t make me cringe every time I enter the kitchen!
(I found these mini clipboards at the Dollar Tree and added super strong magnets to the back. They are helping to keep our fridge clutter to a minimum.)
