Confetti Bags for St. Patricks Day

St. Patrick's Day Confetti Bag 3

Hi Friends! I am so happy to be with you and The Crafting Chicks again. I like to make special gifts and things for holidays but I also like them to be used after the holiday if at all possible. I give little gifts to my kids for St. Patrick’s Day, nothing big but something special to help celebrate the day. One year the gifts were in a St. Patrick’s Day mug, another year each of the kids got a green Old Navy hat with treats inside, this year I made these awesome Confetti Burlap Bags. Of course they will be filled with little treats and gifts. What You Need: 3 Paints (I used Sour Apple, Snow White and Metallic Glorious Gold – all DecoArt) Small Burlap Drawstring Bags (Target Dollar Spot) Pencil Eraser Wax Paper Place a piece of wax paper inside the bag so the paint doesn’t bleed through to the back side. Use the eraser side of [Read More…]

Jellyfish Friendship Bracelets

Jellyfish Bracelets

Back in the day I was the queen of friendship bracelets. I remember spending my summers sitting with my sister and best friend working on the coolest bracelets ever! But this is one style of friendship bracelet we didn’t know about back then – the Jellyfish Friendship Bracelet. It’s call the Jellyfish Bracelet because the embroidery floss hangs down, like jellyfish tentacles while you’re making it. It’s a little different type of bracelet because it uses this handy dandy wheel. I designed one and cut it of cardstock out on my Cricut Explore (using the pen and cut). You can download the svg template to import into Cricut Design Space or use in Silhouette Studio. You’ll need 7 strands of embroidery floss, each 20″ long Tie the strands together, leaving a tail so you’ll be able to tie it once finished, and run them through the center hole. The wheel has 8 slits, so leaving the one with START above [Read More…]

Planked Art Display Board

Planked Art Display Board22

Hello Crafting Chicks readers, my name is Shelly Dolen. I blog over at Dolen Diaries where I share my family’s adventures in creativity! Our latest creative adventure was moving into a “new” fixer upper. We have so many projects going on right now that I feel like we are in heaven! One of the bigger projects I am working on is organizing a craft room / office space for me and my husband, Micah, to share. (Yikes I have A LOT of stuff! This process has made me worry that I will soon be featured on one of those hoarders shows!) After a trip to Ikea we had a desk with two work spaces and some cute modern chairs but no bulletin or display board. I didn’t want it to look or feel like I stepped into Ikea every time I came in here to work so I decided we needed a garage date night to make a Planked Art Display Board to make this room feel more like us! To make your own Planked Art Display Board you’ll [Read More…]

Decorating With Red

DSC_0018 copycover

RED!!!…The never ending topic of decorating conversations. Do you use it?  Do you get rid of it?  Am I tired of it? WHY do I miss it?  When we built our home 8 some years ago, reds, yellows and blacks were all the rage. Warmer colors were everywhere you looked. But quickly, just like all styles, it seemed the popular colors started to change and I personally found myself with A LOT of red decor and not sure what direction to go. To change a home’s ENTIRE color scheme can be VERY pricey, and honestly at times, not always doable. In my basement, I was such a LOVER of RED at the time, I painted my big wood hood over my wet bar this trending color! So Red was VERY much a permeant fixture in my home. As I saw the trends shifting from warmer to cooler tones, I was even more determined to embrace the red in my basement while still somehow [Read More…]

Cranberry Orange Smoothie

Cranberry Orange Smoothie: A great energy booster and source of vitamin C

Hey there! It’s Sydney from Tastefully Frugal again and I’m excited to be here today to share with you my latest and greatest secret. One of my goals for 2015 was to wake up earlier every day so I could get more accomplished and spend more dedicated time with my boys. So far I’ve been able to keep that goal and my secret for doing so (and not falling asleep before the kids do) is smoothies. You see, I’m not a coffee drinker and caffeine gives me the jitters. Plus, I am trying to eat healthier too so smoothies fit right into the mix. After doing lots of research online, AKA Pinterest,  I found that smoothies are a great way to help wake you up in the morning and give you energy throughout the day. I tried a few different fruits and veggie combos and found that the one I’m sharing with you today is not only good for boosting your energy [Read More…]

Youth Infinity Scarf in 15 Minutes!

sm scarves

I’m so excited to be sharing inspiration for Youth Infinity Scarves today using Riley Blake’s knit fabric!  We love Riley Blake Designs…the fabric & the people.  We love being a part of their design team. I could not wait to make something using their adorable striped knit material.  My little girls and nieces are loving fashion scarves right now…especially in this winter season.  I made the cutest infinity scarves.  I’m not lying when I say they literally took 15 minutes!  I can’t believe how adorable they turned out…these are my beautiful nieces modeling them! First, cut your material.  You will need two strips of knit fabric.  10 in x 56 inch (for a wider scarf) and 6 in x 56 in (for a thinner scarf-better for smaller girls). Next, place the right sides together and pin along the edges.  You will now sew along both long edges making a 1/2 seam. This is the next part…a little tricky but after doing [Read More…]

Colorful Burlap Wreath

burlap wreath

Hello! I’m Ginger from, and I am so excited to be here today sharing this super easy & fun colorful burlap wreath! This wreath provides that fun pop of color to your front door that is perfect for spring. Who’s ready for spring? I know I am. So let’s get started! You’ll need a few supplies for this project: foam wreath form wide burlap ribbon glue gun & glue sticks 4 burlap flowers I found these (already made!) burlap flowers for a few dollars each at the craft store. They come in so many fun colors. I’m sure you can find some to match your home decor!  First I wrapped my wreath form with the burlap ribbon. I used the hot glue gun every couple of inches or so to secure the ribbon to the wreath. Be careful the hot glue is hot, & the burlap is pretty porous. You don’t want to burn yourself. I’m talking from experience. After my wreath form [Read More…]
