Date In A Jar::Guest Post by Katie Evans

Hello Crafting Chick readers! I’m thrilled to be guesting posting today. Before we begin let me share a little bit about me…From the time I was very small I have LOVED being creative. Some people find themselves getting lost in gardening, shopping or cooking but find myself getting lost in arts and crafts. Even before I had kids in school I would buy markers, crayons, scissors and glue sticks every year just to stock up and have them on hand! Along with arts and crafts my creative side finds me drawn to photography. Over the lsat several years I found myself becoming a professional photographer and just recently wrote a photography book called, The Key to Taking Pictures like a Professional Photographer. I wrote it in response to the many people who are buying digital slr cameras but don’t quite know how to use them to their full potential and create those amazing pictures they desire. Okay, on to the [Read More…]

The Circle Wrap Skirt:: Elizabeth from Simple Simon & Co Guest Post

Hi.  My name is Elizabeth and I blog with my sister-in-law at Simple Simon & Co.  We are two girls, who married brothers and ended up with the same names.  Yes, it’s very confusing sometimes.  But we joke about who is the “good” Liz and who is the “bad” Liz at any given family event.  We both love to sew, make all things vintage modern again, and are both former school teachers.  Come and see us sometime! One thing you will notice about me on the blog is that I love to make skirts.  They are one of the first things I learned to make as a teenager, and I love them because there are a million possiblities.  And now that I have an 11 month old crawling EVERYWHERE, I love them even more because they are a one nap project.  YES! And circle skirts. Well, they are just up there on my skirt list.   Probably because they are one of [Read More…]

Organizing Your Photos:: Mandy Douglass

I am so honored to be featured as a guest blogger for the Crafting Chicks. Let me introduce myself. My name is Mandy Douglass. I have been an avid scrapbooker, and crafter for over 20 years. In fact you might have seen some of my work in Creating Keepsakes magazine. I have worked for them for the past few years and was named the 2008 Scrapbooker of the Year! My blog is focused around things that CHANGE MY LIFE. Whether it be scrapbooking, cooking, or crafting … I try to cover it all. So enough about me personally, today I want to share with you my love for preserving memories. First, this post is for scrapbookers, and non scrapbookers. It is for anyone who takes photos and wants to preserve their memories! I am sure many of you are a lot like me … you have boxes and boxes of photos, files upon files of digital photos, yet when it [Read More…]

Flag Day Pillow:: Autie From ICandy Handmade

Hey gals! I’ve been counting down the days since Becky asked me to guest blog over here at The Crafty Chicks! First of all, let me introduce myself, I’m Autie (which is short for Autumn) from over at iCandy handmade.  We’re a relatively new blog with, hopefully, some fun ideas that will inspire you to make something on your own!  I’m a mom to two cute little kids, and I love to sew, and craft with just about anything! When Becky asked me to guest post over here, I wanted to think of something fun and summery.  But when I looked at the calendar, I realized that today is flag day (Happy Flag Day!), and I had to do something flag-ish.  The 4th of July is coming up fast, so why not! Here’s what I came up with for today: The Ruched Flag Pillow I think I have an obsession with pillows  because I make and remake them all the [Read More…]

Summer Picnic Blanket:: Tammy from She Wears Flowers

Hi Crafting Chicks readers! I am so excited to be here today. This is one of the first craft blogs I ever discovered and I feel kinda special  being here today! I’m Tammy and you can usually find me crafting up something or another at She Wears Flowers. I have 3 girls (10 year old twins and a 3 year old) who keep me pretty busy sewing and creating fun things for them. Sewing is one of my favorite things to do, but I am always willing to try other crafty stuff. I like simple and quick over just about anything else and you can find lots of simple and quick craft tutorials on my blog (even boy stuff! ;). Today’s craft is also a simple and quick one. I realized I needed a picnic blanket. You know—the blanket that is always in the car and you can pull it out for all kinds of things. Some friends had a [Read More…]

Fabric Appliqué Greeting Cards:: Angela Flicker

Hi, I’m Angela Flicker from The Artists’ House and today I’m going to show you how to make fabric applique greeting cards. Before I get to the tutorial though, I thought I would first introduce myself. The Artists’ House started one happy day when I married a boy who was an artist. I too loved to create things and so side-by-side we created beautiful things together. Soon I was pregnant, and before my daughter was born I wanted the very best for her. When looking for that perfect baby blanket, I found myself disappointed with what was out there. When it came to something as precious as her baby blanket, something she would wrap up in every night, and drag around every day, well, only the best would do. Nothing was quite right though, so I designed and made her blanket, my very first quilt. One quilt turned into two, and two to three. Soon I realized that I too [Read More…]

Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowls:: Laura from Real Mom Kitchen

Hi, I’m Laura from  I have a passion for cooking and food, that was fostered by my mother from the time I was a young girl.  I love to share my experiences in the kitchen and that’s why I started a blog 3 years ago.  Real Mom Kitchen is full of delicious family friendly recipes along with photographs of each recipe.  Today I am stopping by The Crafting Chicks to share a quick and easy dinner recipe for chicken teriyaki rice bowls.   Why eat out when you can make your own teriyaki rice bowl in no time?  The recipe begins with a simple teriyaki sauce you make at home.  It is so easy to do and is much better than anything you can find in a bottle at the store.  This recipe will give you enough sauce for a couple meals and stores in the fridge for several weeks.   Then all you need is some steamed rice, frozen stir [Read More…]

Hello Crafting Chicks Readers! I am Delia from Delia Creates.  I am so excited to be here. Everything these ladies do is top notch. I just hope my project follows suit. I am a mom to two sweet little boys, 2 and 6. Being a mother is my most cherished role in this life and I wouldn’t be who I am today without my dear mother, so I am honored to be sharing a Mother’s Day gift idea with you. When I was brainstorming for what to make this Mother’s Day for our mothers/grandmas, I naturally thought of aprons. They were a necessity to every wife and mother decades ago, becoming more of just a useful accessory in our day; but they will always remind me of being a mother and the mothers in my life. After sketching around a bit, I came up with this… This apron is actually quite simple to make. Let me show you how… Gather [Read More…]

We are excited to have a wonderful guest on today.  Maria Rainier is a freelance writer and blog junkie. The holiday season can be stressful, hectic, and difficult to control, so it’s important to be prepared to reorganize your life before you’re thrust straight back into it with your New Year’s party hat still stuck on your head. Once you’re back to your regular routine, it will be even more difficult to take the time to organize the post-holiday mayhem that’s been left strewn around your house. Scheming for the Holidays…

Hi everyone! My name is Candice Palmer. I have been a professional photographer for fourteen years, a mom for eleven years, and a lover of all things crafty pretty much my entire life. All of these interests kind of collided into an obsession with scrapbooking a few years ago. Through the years I have worked as a contributing editor for Simple Scrapbooks magazine and have had fun adding to lots of scrapbooking publications. My work is currently featured at I’m excited to get to share a couple of ideas with you today! Well I don’t know about the rest of you, but here in Oklahoma we’re finally getting a bit of chill in the air and I’m starting to get excited about the upcoming holidays! Hi, I’m Monika Wright and I’ll be walking you down Trick-or-Treat Lane today with a not-so-spooky Halloween craft. I love the candy treats and the cute costumes, but not the tricks and the creepiness so much. Today, we’ll be making two different framed projects using an art print available as a free download on my blog, i love it all.  You’ll see a section titled free downloads in my sidebar. We’ll begin by making our own photo matte. I recycled the backing from a notepad, but an old cereal box would work just fine, too. When trimming out the middle portion of the matte, you’ll want to cut it somewhat smaller. For example, for a 4×6 photo, you might try cutting your [Read More…]

I wanted to create something unique and different, so I went walking through the American Fork Roberts location to see what I could come up with. I keep seeing so many blog posts about the many fun uses of spray paint, and I’ve been wanting to try a project with it. I grew up hearing from my dad that spray paint is BAD! Take that Crayon out of Your Mouth

Hi, my name is Drew and I am not a Crafting Chick. I was lucky enough to meet three of the Crafting Chicks at the Evolution of Women in Social Media conference back in June. You’re probably asking yourself “What? Who let him into that conference or here on this site?” I assure you I was invited here to try out one of the great crafting projects and then to blog about it. I don’t do a lot of crafting but I do a lot of photography so my post here is all about my family’s experience making edible crayons and it is mostly visual. My wife, Allison, picked up the supplies for the crafting project and I got the camera equipment ready. Allison picked up 3 different colors of candy melts, red, blue and green. I printed up some of the wrappers that we would use and then I interviewed my daughter Eva about what we were going to [Read More…]

Shower Me With Curtains Please…

Let’s not pretend I’m a master seamstress… because I’m not. Let’s get that out of the way up front. It’s called seam & stress for a reason. I’m just Heather, the author of Miscellaneous, etc. A new snazzy little blog designed to help me make sense of life’s randomness & become a better person. Thanks for this opportunity Beck! So yes, I like cute things, but I’m also frugal. {That’s a kinder synonym for cheap, don’t you think?} So when I realized the fun, color shower curtain I was trying to find for my kids’ bathroom {that wasn’t red, yellow or blue with tropical fish} was no where to be found, I figured… “How hard could that be to make?” Well it turns out… not that hard! Firstly I tried to find tutorials online & learned I may possibly have ADHD. I couldn’t sort through all of those tutorials & most of them might as well have been written in [Read More…]

{Adorable Felt Playhouse-Guest Post}

This beautiful girl is my friend Tiffany. She made this darling playhouse. I thought it was fabulous, so I had to have her do a guest post. Here are some photos and her directions for this cute and crafty felt playhouse. Felt Playhouse This whole project is my sisters fault. She sent me a picture of a house like this, and at a moment of weakness, I started it. I am actually very glad that I made one, and it didn’t take as long as I thought it would. I used for pictures and some of the ideas. You can make one to fit any size table; I chose to use an old card table so that I could also take it outside. I have seen some that are made to fit kitchen tables. I completed each side panel first, and then sewed the side panels to each other, then the roof to the panels. Measure the width, length [Read More…]

Blueberry Tart

I made this delicious blueberry tart when I hosted my book club awhile ago. It was a huge hit! It looks so beautiful and is really easy to make. I made the crust with a Cuisinart food processor, it’s a lot easier and faster, but you can make it as the instructions indicate and you will be just fine. Be aware that the crust is very crumbly so don’t freak out and think you have ruined it! I love desserts like this, they bring a little Spring sunshine to our cloudy and rainy April weather! p.s. I’m sorry I don’t have a picture of the actual tart, this is a picture I found on the internet, but trust me- it is not only beautiful, but very very tasty! You won’t be disappointed! Blueberry Tart: Crust: 1/2 cup butter 3 tbs sugar 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp salt Filling: 2 pints fresh blueberries (about 2 cups) 3/4 cups sugar [Read More…]

Magnet Mania

I found this awesome idea on TipJunkie on what to do with your kids magnets and save your fridge from scratches. Purchase a cookie sheet and a pizza pan from the dollar store, as well as some magnetic clips. Hot glue picture hangers to the back and hang them up on the playroom wall. Magnets under control and scratches averted. It’s magnet mania!!

Inexpensive Kid’s Room Artwork

When I was decorating my son’s room my husband gave me a very steep budget so I need some Inexpensive Kid’s Room Artwork. I used this idea: color copy pages of your favorite children’s book and put them in frames. I already had these frames with mats (the gold is kind of ugly, but oh well!) but I’m sure you could find inexpensive frames that come with mats at Target or Roberts. Sorry about the bad pictures!
