I'm Going There Someday Foil Temple Print

I’m Going There Someday Foil Temple Print

I’ve been playing around with the Heidi Swapp™ Minc™ machine and I’m in love with it! It is so much fun! My girls watched in amazement as I would place a piece of paper covered in foil in the sleeve, run it through the machine and voila! A beautiful foiled picture would emerge! Too fun!

I decided to make a temple print for my daughter’s rooms so they can see it everyday.

I found a clipart silhouette of the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. I then added the “I’m going there someday,” to the bottom in a script and also a fun block font.

It was tricky to decide on the foil color so I did a few different ones and ended up loving them all but the silver with the turquoise stole my heart.

I Whale-y Love You Notebook

I Whale-y Love You Notebook

I think I’m in love! My daughter was wearing some whale pajamas this week and I kept saying, “I Whale-y Love you!” We both laughed and then I had to do something about that cute little saying. So here you go. My answer is this “I Whale-y love you!” notebook.

I used my Cricut to cut out the vinyl and it was so super easy. I’ll even share the Cricut file here for you so you can jump in your Cricut Design Space and make one too.

First off you’ll need to snag a cute notebook with a plan cover.  I found these cute craft paper ones at Michaels. They came in a 3 pack so you can make some for gifts.

Next, I used the Brights Sample pack of vinyl from Cricut. I loved the Teal and Pink together. Such fun bright colors.

Use the Cricut to cut it all out. Use some transfer tape to place the vinyl on the notebook in the way that you like. I would like to mention how much I LOVE my Cricut Tools especially the weeder tool. It’s my favorite.

And there you have it. A cute notebook dressed up with a little vinyl. Ready to write in or gift to a friend.

If you have been wanting a Cricut now is the time! Make some eggnog and hang some lights because it’s Christmas in July at Cricut! In addition to great sales on Cricut Explore machines and digital items, it’ll make you very merry to know that Cricut is also re-releasing retired cartridges in limited quantities, including: Songbird, Very Merry Tags, Christmas Cards, Dinosaur Tracks and 50 States.

They are also offering an  extra $10 off Cricut Explore Air Everything Set with code EVERYTHING10 and an extra 20% off any digital item with code 20DIGIT15.

Take advantage of this huge sale today and have all your crafting projects ready to go in time for the winter holidays! Plus, you’ll get free shipping with the code JULYSHIP!

Monsters Inc. Play Dough

Keep your little monsters busy on a rainy day with this easy Monsters Inc. inspired play dough.

Monsters Inc Play Dough Tastefully Frugal for The Crafting Chicks

Hey crafty readers! It’s Sydney from Tastefully Frugal here again to share another fun activity to do with your kids. Last month we celebrated my baby’s second birthday (seriously where does the time go)! I wasn’t planning on having a party for him but two weeks before his birthday he started saying he wanted a “Mikey-owski” party; in two year old language that meant he wanted a Monsters University party. They’ve seen both Monsters movies but Monsters University is definitely their favorite.

Only having a few weeks to plan I decided to go with super simple ideas for the food and treats. I’m not a big fan of sending home goodie bags filled with candy and cheap toys; kids are already on a sugar high from the party itself and the last thing parents need is for a melt down when their $.25 toy breaks. As a thank you to our guests I like sending home one treat and one toy or game. For our Star Wars Party I made Death Star Oreo Truffles and Pool Noodle Light Sabers. For our Monster Party I opted for Monsters Rice Krispie Treats and play dough.

Monsters Inc Play Dough Tastefully Frugal for The Crafting Chicks

Both of my boys love playing with play dough and it’s so easy to make it fit perfectly with my stress free party plan. I used a basic salt dough play dough recipe and added neon blue and green for the colors. I will tell you you are going to use a lot of food coloring to get the bright colors. Between making these and the Monster Cupcakes I used almost an entire bottle of both the blue and green (but it was totally worth it)! If you have a rainy day (or super hot day) in your forecast make a batch of this play dough ahead of time; your little ones will love it!

1 cup flour

1/3 cup salt

2 tsp. cream of tartar

1 cup water

1 Tbsp. oil (I used coconut oil but you can use canola oil too)

neon food coloring

Add all of your dry ingredients (flour, salt and cream of tartar) to a medium sauce pan. Stir to combine with a wooden spoon.

Add water and oil and turn heat to medium-low.

Continually stir until it starts to get thick (about 1-2 minutes).

Before it starts to get really thick add your food coloring. For Mike Wazowski I used 44 drops of neon green food coloring (I added drops 10 at a time until I got the desired col0r) For Sulley I used 32 drops of neon blue, again adding drops 10 at a time.

Stir, stir, stir. You want to make sure you’re constantly stirring so the color gets spread evenly.

When the dough starts to not stick to the side anymore you are done.

Let dough cool on wax paper or foil for 30 minutes.

Knead a few times and store in an air tight container.

We had our party a month ago and my boys play with their dough every few days and it’s still soft and squishy!

Indoor Herb Garden with Minc Gold Foil Touches

sm herb garden 1

We have loved using the Heidi Swapp’s Minc Machine to add Gold/Color Foil touches to our projects and prints. It makes any craft project, gift idea, or wall print pop!  The Gold Foil adds that fancy wow factor.  Last month we shared how to use the minc machine, and an adorable free Printable.  Today I’m sharing how to make a pretty indoor herb garden with Minc gold foil touches.

sm herb garden 6

I used Heidi Swapp’s Mini Cardstock Pinwheels and gift tags to spice up the indoor herb garden gift.  I love her kits because they are ready to go!  All you have to do is cut your foil to size and run it through your  Minc Machine.

sm herb garden 8

Here is the before and after (adding the foil) of the pinwheel designs.

sm herb garden 7

Fold the corners in and make the pinwheels.  All the instructions are in the kits.

I found pretty herb plants at Home Depot.  Cilantro, Sweet Basil, and Oregano…my favorites.  I potted them in silver pots from Ikea…the darling blue rectangle tray is from the Dollar store!

Now add your fancy pinwheels and gift tags!  Such a cute indoor herb garden gift!  And the Minc machine helped me take it to a new level! sm herb garden 2

Here is a great video from Heidi Swapp on how to use the amazing Minc Machine!

Party in a Can ~ Birthday Gift Idea

Hello! It’s Ginger from I am sooooo excited to be back here today sharing this fun birthday gift idea! Yay! I have loved my previous visits with the Chicks when I shared a colorful burlap wreath & an easy chalkboard inspired spring block. Over on my blog I love sharing easy, simple & fun projects, recipes & ideas. I’m also a mom to 5 kiddos, & they keep me busy! One of my kiddos is almost a senior! Gulp! How did that happen? It won’t be too long before he leaves the nest & takes off on his own. I’m not too sure I’m ready! ha! Today I am sharing this easy Party in a Can tutorial with you with FREE birthday printable! This would be the perfect gift to send to your college student or missionary on their birthday. You better believe I’ll be sending a gift just like this to my kiddos when they are older. You can’t have a birthday without a little party! This would also make a great gift for a neighbor or friend. So let’s get started!

Party in a Can #birthday #party #giftidea

birthday party in a can printable label

You’ll need a few supplies:

empty paint can (I bought mine for about $5 at Home Depot. Look in the paint section.)
3 12×12 pieces of scrapbook paper
white card stock
this printable
spray adhesive

First, you will print out your label. Then I used the print & cut feature with my Silhouette to cut it out in a circle. You could also use a circle cutter or paper trimmer to cut it out.

Silhouette Print & Cut 600

Next I cut 2 pieces of scrapbook paper the same height as my can. You’ll need 2 pieces of 12×12 paper to fit around your can. Be sure to measure & cut a little notch to fit around the handle on each side of the scrapbook paper.

I also used my Silhouette to cut a circle for the lid.

Next I used some spray adhesive to put the paper on my can. I love this stuff! It’s one of favorite craft products EVER!!! :)

Now my can looked like this! Isn’t it cute? ha!

Then using the spray adhesive I attached the birthday label right to the front of my can.

Now it was time to fill this baby up! ha!

Then I put everything inside! It was pretty tight fit, but the mission was accomplished. ha!

Then I put the lid back on, and then I sealed it with a rubber mallet. I added a tag & can opener on the side with some cute ribbon.
