Mother's Day Handprint Flower 2016

I’m a sucker for anything handprint from my girls. I love seeing the growth from year to year through their hands. You probably know this because I like to post project and gift ideas using handprints. Of course I had to make another Mother’s Day Handprint Flower Printable for 2016.

These always make a fun gift for grandmas too because it’s one of a kinda artwork from their favorite children.

They are quick but can be messy so I suggest having some wet wipes nearby. Also, clothes that are okay to have paint on them, and a surface that could get paint on it. 😉

Mothers-day-flowers-supplies

Other then the suggestions above, you’re going to need the free printable, which you can download below, some paint, a paper plate to put the paint on, and a paint brush.

mothers-day-flower-paint

Paint your child’s hand so that you can control the amount. Then they can place the hand on a stem.

mothers-day-flower-handprint

You can also let them use their creativity to make flowers with their fingers or thumbs.

mother's-day-flower-thumbprints

This can get on the messy side so beware and have your wipes handy.

mothers-day-flowers-with-paint

I loved watching how she made each flower.

A fun little action shot of her showing me her painted thumb.

And there you have it. You can have each child complete one page each, or have each child do only one flower. This project is so fun and each one is unique.

Hey Everyone, it’s Kimberly with Get Away Today and my favorite season is just around the corner… vacation season! Spring breaks have already begun and summer vacations aren’t far behind. Of course, my favorite vacation destination is the Disneyland Resort. Time spent on vacation is valuable, and even more so at Disneyland in my opinion. I’ve been to Disneyland many times over the years and always have a great time, even when it’s packed. Since spring and summer tend to be busier travel times to visit the parks, I put together some of my best tips to help you save time and money at Disneyland.

Time and Money Saving Disneyland Tips

1. Be sure to use the FASTPASS system for the most popular attractions, which serves as a reservation for you to come back and ride later. Radiator Springs Racers and Hyperspace Mountain are the hottest FASTPASS attractions right now, so you’ll want to grab those first thing in the morning. You can get your next FASTPASS two hours after you get one, or by the first time printed on your FASTPASS ticket, whichever comes sooner.

RadiatorSpringsFastpass

2. Use Rider Switch if you have small kids that can’t ride the bigger attractions. One person stays back with the younger kids while everyone else rides. Then, the rider who stayed behind gets to go to the front and ride with up to two other riders. This will be your older kids favorite since they’ll normally get to ride twice in a row. Another way to save some time if you have older kids is to use the Single Rider line on some of the more popular attractions. You wait in line together and then fill single spots as they open up on the attractions. Radiator Springs Racers is one of the best Single Rider line options.

RadiatorSpringsRacers

3. Get to the parks as early as possible. Each 3-day or longer ticket comes with one early morning into Disneyland, so be sure to take advantage of that. In addition to the official early entry, you can get past the gate and into the entry of both parks 30 minutes to an hour before the park opens. By getting there as early as possible, you’ll be able to beat most of the crowds.

4. Stay on property. True, you’ll pay more to stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, but if you can afford a little splurge, the perks more than pay for themselves. One of the best perks of staying on-site is that you get early entry into Disneyland or California Adventure every day that you have a ticket for. It’s the only way to get into Disney California Adventure Park early, and I will tell you, the 5-minute wait time for Toy Story Midway Mania is worth it!

ToyStoryWaitTime

5. If the Disneyland Resort Hotels don’t fit in your budget, choose a hotel that offers a free breakfast. Many area hotels have deluxe or full breakfast options that include protein and hot items to keep you full longer. Some of the suite hotels offer dinners or snacks in the evenings, and may even have a full kitchen for you to use during your vacation.

6. Get the longest length ticket possible. You’ll pay a little more overall, but you’ll pay less per day, and have way more flexibility. That is especially important during the Diamond Celebration that has multiple nighttime shows that you won’t want to miss.

WOC

7. Pack snacks. Not only will bringing snacks into the parks save you money, it can save you time. Munch on healthy snacks like trail mix or fruit snacks while you’re waiting in lines for attractions. It will keep you occupied and energetic for a fun-filled day.

8. Book a Character Breakfast. Don’t spend your valuable park time waiting in lines to meet characters, let them come to you when you book a Character breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are five different options each with different times, characters, menus and locations. Choose from Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel for “brunch” or dinner, Ariel’s Princess Celebration for breakfast or lunch at Disney California Adventure, Breakfast at the Park with Minnie & Friends inside Disneyland, Surf’s Up Breakfast with Mickey & Friends at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, and Chip ‘n Dale’s Critter Country Breakfast at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. Each has something unique and I love them all.

CharacterDining

9. Buy your souvenirs before your trip. Park prices on T-shirts, stuffed animals, glow sticks and trinkets are much higher than, well, almost anywhere else. You can save a ton by purchasing these items before your vacation, and bringing them with you. The kids are happy because they still get fun new things that remind them of the fun you had on vacation, and you’re happy because you didn’t spend a fortune.

10. Use coupons. Our packages at Get Away Today come with exclusive coupons on dining and merchandise in Anaheim and Downtown Disney, but there are a lot of ways to save. Sign up for coupons at Earl of Sandwich, Rainforest Cafe, Subway, Wetzel’s Pretzels and more before you go. You may even want to consider buying an Entertainment book to use during your trip.

I hope these tips help you as you’re planning your Disneyland vacation! If you’re looking for the best way to save money, it starts by booking with Get Away Today. We negotiate with our hotel and attraction partners to help you save the very most on your vacation. We’d love to help find the perfect fit for your family on getawaytoday.com or by calling 855-GET-AWAY. Mention promo code: CraftingChicks to save an extra $10 off any 2-night or longer Disneyland package.

Hello! My name is Crystal Wilkerson & I’m so excited to have this opportunity to guest post for the Crafting Chicks!  I’m a stay-at-home mom, graphic designer, scrapbooker & organizational enthusiast. I’m also just trying to make it through the daily maze of home, work, & family responsibilities like the rest of you. In my constant effort to try to stay on top of the chaos (always a work in progress), I’ve discovered a binding system that I absolutely love. Today I’m excited to share that system with you!

This system is often referred to as the “rollabind” system, however it can actually be found under several different names/brands. You may have heard of a few of them: Martha Stewart’s Discbound SystemStaple’s ArcLevenger’s Circa, & Rollabind. While I am not affiliated with any of these brands, I’ve experimented with all of them & definitely have my favorites that I’ll be sharing with you.

My Favorite Binding System

CrystalW_CC_GBP_01_BindingSystem_04

This is made possible through the combination of their unique punch & circular discs. You can easily add, remove, or rearrange your papers at any time!

One of my favorite punches is the Arc Desktop Punch (pictured above) from Staples. You can easily punch up to 8 pages at a time.

If you’re looking for something that can punch through laminated material or plastic, then you’ll want to go with Levenger’s Circa Leverage Punch (15-page capacity). I recently purchased this & have loved using it to create laminated covers like the ones seen below.

Levenger also has a slim Portable Punch that is great for traveling (1-3 page capacity).

My Favorite Binding System

CrystalW_CC_GBP_01_BindingSystem_05

The reason for this is because you add the discs individually. This gives you the ability to make it as big or small as you’d like depending on how many discs you use. I have made binders of all sizes for all kinds of purposes!

You can find ready-made covers in a variety of colors & materials. One of the most popular covers seen all over Pinterest (and one of my personal favorites) is the Martha Stewart Discbound Notebook in Faux Leather (pictured below on the top right). It comes in a beautiful light turquoise color. It was unavailable for a while but is finally back in stock again! Staples & Levenger also have a variety of quality covers to choose from called Arc Notebooks & Circa Notebooks.

You can also make your own covers by laminating your own design or you can use a cute piece of scrapbook paper! Below are some notebooks I made to keep on my desk while I’m working. I’m including the download for you to make your own! Just print out on a piece of white cardstock, laminate, bind, & enjoy!

DOWNLOAD HERE

My Favorite Binding System

CrystalW_CC_GBP_01_BindingSystem_06

The smallest discs can hold up to 50 papers, while the largest discs can hold up to 450 papers! There is also a variety of styles & colors to choose from. My favorite discs are from the ones pictured below from Levenger. They are made out of 100% lightweight aluminum & look beautiful!! You can find them HERE. They are a little pricey, but keep in mind that you will never need to throw these away. You can literally keep reusing them for years to come.

Martha Stewart & Arc have more affordable discs that come in a variety of colors. The quality isn’t as good as Levenger as they are made out of plastic, but they still work great & look good too! Hobby Lobby has also recently come out with a fun line of discs & planner accessories called Create 365 by “Me & My Big Ideas”.

You can also find lots of accessories that work with your binders like tabs, page protectors, rulers, notebook paper, etc! The possibilities really are endless!

CrystalW_CC_GBP_01_BindingSystem_09

Last year I created my life planner utilizing this binding system. I’ve been working on a new version for 2016, but have yet to finish it due to the craziness of my life lately.  However, If you’d like to try out my planner from last year, I’m doing something I’ve never done before & it’s just for Crafting Chicks readers! From now until my new planner becomes available (which should be very soon), you can grab last year’s version for 90% off! And the best part is, 90% of the pages are not dated, so you can use them forever! I’ll post a picture of the cover of my planner below, but you can see it in it’s entirety by clicking HERE & HERE. And you can purchase it HERE. Be sure to enter the coupon code: CRAFTINGCHICKS to get it for only $3.99!

February Challenge Creative

Kids-Coloring-Storage-Organization

I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I try to find storage for my kids things anywhere they might use it. So the coloring books and supplies end up in my china hutch.

Coloring-Organization

It’s a pretty storage space when you’re looking at it like this. But open up the cabinet that the coloring supplies are housed in and….

Coloring-cabinet

YIKES! It’s like my tupperware cabinet. Shove something in and hope it stays long enough to close the door.

So when I was walking around Michaels the other day and saw these darling chalk storage containers, I knew they were my solution. They match perfectly and were the perfect sizes. There are tons of fun things down the Maker Market isle in Michaels right now.

Coloring-storage-containers

First off, I cleaned out that cabinet and threw away a ton of old papers and broken crayons. By this time I had attracted the attention of my 2nd oldest. She was cooking with dad, but thought my project looked a bit more fun.

Kids-coloring-bin

We used the smaller crates to store the markers and crayons. I wrote on each of the chalk board sides with the chalk markers I purchased at Michaels as well. She loved helping add those into the crates.

coloring-storage

Next we made a bin for the coloring books, which I swear multiply. Then I needed an answer for all those homework woes, so I added in a homework bin. Each day after school, my girls are to unload their papers into this bin. I can then go through and trash what we don’t need and keep what we need to work on or what I want to save for later. This might be my favorite part!

Kids-coloring-bins

Then we came up with a configuration of the bins that would be most useful. Coloring book bin is in the back on the bottom, with the markers and crayons in front. My logic here is that they can grab those things if they need them for homework or anything, whereas the coloring books can be pulled out afterwards if that’s what they really want. The homework bin is on top for easy access. Did I mention that I’m excited for that one?

storage-coloring-bins

I love how the storage bins fit perfectly and slide out like little drawers. The answer to my prayers!

And there you have it! It looks a lot better then it did.

If are looking for more ideas, you can always take a look at some of the fun projects on Michaels.com or the other 49 Makers’ ideas on The Glue String for to see how they personalized their crafts!

Kids-Goal-worksheet-header

Each year I like to sit down and evaluate what I’ve accomplished and what I need to do better. Some people do this as a resolution, some use a Word of the Year. It hit me this past year that my girls could really benefit from setting goals and feeling a sense of accomplishment once they reached a goal. So I came up with this little printable. Helping Kids Set Goals Worksheet that is a free download for you to use with your own children.
I’m excited because this year we were able to team up with Horizon Organic, to show how easy it is to teach children to plan out goals, and especially find a way to eat healthy while doing it.
Here’s how we started!
goals-for-kids
For the first section on the printable I asked my girls, “What is 1 thing new you’d like to try this year?” We are working on eating healthier as a family, but sometimes they don’t want to try the new veggies or fruits I bring home. They decided that they wanted to try new foods. (It kinda counts as more than one new thing, but if it’s helping them eat healthier, hey I’ll go for it.)
kids-goals
The second question I asked is, “What are 2 ways you can serve others?” I love incorporating service into their thoughts. So much of a child’s mind revolves around themselves. I’ve learned that as a parent, if I ask them to serve they are more than happy to and end up LOVING the resulting feelings. It’s never too young to teach them how to serve.
The third question on the sheet is, “What are 3 things I want to learn?”  We got a variety of answers from each girl. From learning to sew, to learning how to play the flute. We will see how much I can help out with those
goals.
teaching-kids-about-goals
The 4th question is, “What are 4 things I want to get better at?” I think it’s important for children to work on being better at something. Weather it’s sports, reading, writing or coloring, there is always room for improvement.
The final question to ask, “Where are 2 places you want to go?” You can keep this in reason or have them reach for the stars. Our girls settled on Disneyland and a hike we’ve wanted to try as a family.
My girls had such a fun time working on this. They even invited friends to do a sheet too. I’m having them post the goal sheets next to their beds so they can be reminded and work on their goals through out the year.

Here’s the printable for you to download a Kids Goal sheet for your children. Download Black

Cold and Flu Essentials Every Home Needs

Cold and Flu season is upon us and I don’t know about you, but I like to be prepared for it. I honestly hope and pray we all don’t get it, but a cold is hard to miss.

Here are my tops picks for Cold and Flu Essentials Every Homes Needs.

Stuffy Noses

Vicks BabyRub

Vicks BabyRub

I loved giving my babies and toddlers massages with a little Vicks BabyRub when they were sick. It seemed to help relax and calm them for naps and bedtime.

A must have for Cold and Flu Season

Simply Saline

I LOVED these when my babies were sick. I know it seems like torture but they can breath so much better with all that gunk out of their noses.

Simply Saline Swabs

Simply Saline Swabs

These swabs do the same thing as the sprays, but don’t irritate the babies and toddlers. Win/win!

NoseFrida The Snot Sucker Nasal Aspirator

NoseFrida The Snotsucker Nasal Aspirator

Yes I know this looks disgusting but it comes highly recommended Dr’s.

DoTerra Breath

doTerra Breath

Now that my girls are a little older, I will rub a little bit of doTerra Breath on them when they are sick. It really seems to open up their airways.

Sore Throat/Cough

Zarbees Cough Medicine

Zarbee’s Natural Cough Syrup

I discovered Zarbees with my first daughter and I’m so glad I did. It uses honey and other natural ingredients to help kids feel better.

Ludens-wild-cherry

Luden’s Wild Cherry Throat Drops

I find that my kids can’t handle the really strong cough drops, but these are perfect.

Halls Breezers

Halls Breezers Cool Berry

My girls also love these Halls Breezers, Cool Berry.

Cool Mist humidifier

Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier

I honestly have 3 cool mist humidifiers in my home. I store them where they are easy to access because coughs come at night. My best tip for a humidifier, is to buy one that doesn’t have a filter to replace. Those get costly and honestly I don’t have time to worry about that when I’m taking care of sick kids.

Fever/Aches and Pains

Vicks Behind Ear Gentle Touch thermometer

Vick’s Behind Ear Gentle Touch Thermometer

I actually went to a lecture a few years back by a fantastic Pediatrician, Meg Meeker. She raved about these behind the ear thermometers and I have to agree. My babies would never hold still for forehead scan. And forget any other type of thermometer. This one is done in seconds and shows the past temperatures so you can see if the fever is raging or has come down.

Children's Tylenol

Children’s Tylenol

I always make sure I have this in stock.

Getting Rid of Germs!

Zarbees Elderberry Gummies

Zarbees Naturals Mighty Bee Gummy Immune Support

My girls love to take these tummies. They each have a burst of Elderberry, Vitamin C and Zinc help support the immune system.

Clorox Wipes

Clorox Wipes

Any kind of wipe that will kill germs is good by me. I wipe down all the areas that get touched that I might miss on a regular clean. Make sure door knobs, light switches, phones, and remotes get a good cleaning.

Nature's Miracle Floor Cleaner

Nature’s Miracle Stain & Odor Remover

This came highly recommended from a friend. It removes the smell of throw-up, and any stains from it, in minutes. This is a definite “must-have-on-hand” item!

So did I catch it all? What would you add to my list?
