Although I’ve been obsessed with letterpress for years (more years than I’ve been married in fact), I’ve never actually had a chance to try it. Back in the day a roommate and I had big plans of constructing our own press, and I still have a file full of different plan designs and sources for plates. But soon I got married and she moved to England and that dream was put on hold. So when Lifestyle Crafts sent an Epic our way I was giddy!

It was like Christmas at our house and my 5 year old could sense it. After using the unopened box as a bribe throughout the morning I let him pull it out and play with it as soon as the little brother was down for a nap.

He thought mixing colors and using the brayer was the best. We made a huge mess practicing and quickly learned that just a little bit of ink is all it really takes to work!

I loved the texture that a blind (no ink) press creates.

We even tried out the die cut system, although I think I’ll stick to my Silhouette for my cutting needs. I really love the freedom of changing sizes and shapes and not being limited to a kit– and that is the only complaint I have with the Epic. I’m used to easily changing sizes and fonts and designs in this digital world we live. I suppose that is why letterpress is an art! You can order custom plates of your own design from Lifestyle Crafts, which really make the possibilities of the L Letterpress endless!
