I’m here today with a project using the Rhinestone Starter Kit from Silhouette (code CHICKS)I used it to make a pretty photo album cover for our Disneyworld trip!

When Silhouette sent me the promo kit a few weeks ago, I’ll admit I was a little bit nervous because I’ve never actually “blinged out” anything before with rhinestones. ๐Ÿ™‚ And this is my first time using the Rhinestone template feature in the CAMEO software, so I wasn’t quite sure what to make!ย  Enter the Disney Photo Album makeover.

We went on a family vacation to Disneyworld last year (what an adventure!) and while I had plans to make a fancy photobook of the trip I decided to just print out my favorite photos (200 of them) and stick them in a simple photo album. The hardest part was whittling it down to 200 from the 1 zillion photos I took. ๐Ÿ™‚ I decided to use the Rhinestone kit to make a simple but pretty design on the front of the plain leather photo album. I’ve seen them used on darling t-shirts and hats and bags and clothes, so I wanted to test it out on something a little bit different. Happy to say it worked! And YAY for my first time!

Here’s how.

When you get the Rhinestone Starter Kit you get all this:

The rhinestone starter kit contains all the materials you need to get started with rhinestones from template material to rhinestones to an instructional DVD. If you’re interested in creating rhinestone projects and aren’t sure where to start, this kit and your Silhouette are all you need to jump in.

Starter kit includes:

  • 2 sheets of rhinestone template material
  • 2 sheets of transfer tape
  • 2 backing boards
  • rhinestone positioning brush
  • 400 10ss clear rhinestones
  • 400 10ss black rhinestones
  • 400 10ss pink rhinestones
  • exclusive download card good for 10 rhinestone templates and a rhinestone alphabet
  • idea booklet and instruction guide
  • instructional DVD

I took a plain black leather photo album that I’ve had forever and dusted it off. ๐Ÿ™‚ Then I created my design in the Silhouette Designer Edition software using circle shapes and the rhinestone features, and the numbers that came for free with the starter kit. HERE is a basic tutorial about how to use the rhinestone features.

You cut the design out of the special rhinestone template paper using the CAMEO, peel off the blue part and put it onto the rhinestone backing board like this.

Then you sprinkle on the little teeny tiny rhinestones (I used white 10ss size) and use the brush to help get them into the holes of the template. This took some patience but it wasn’t difficult. Brush off the extra rhinestones to keep for other projects. Here they are all cozy in their own little spots. ๐Ÿ™‚

Then you take the special rhinestone transfer paper and place it right on top of the design. I rubbed my fingers over each rhinestone to make sure they were going to stick. And they sure did stick! Then I peeled off the transfer tape and the rhinestones came too.

I placed the rhinestone design on the front of the photo album. At this point if you’re working with leather I would recommend carefully cutting off some of the excess transfer tape and get it closer to the design. It made the leather a bit too sticky in some parts once it was heated by the iron.

Then you put a thin cloth on top of the rhinestones/transfer tape and press down on top with a heated iron for up to 60 seconds, on “wool” setting. (I couldn’t take pictures and iron at the same time! I was too scared this wasn’t going to work!!!!) Again, be careful that you are pressing down on the rhinestone design area, not on top of the leather. Then I peeled up the tape carefully to make sure the rhinestones were set into the leather, and after a few more seconds with the iron they did stay. IT TOTALLY WORKED, peeps!

I’m loving it. My daughter thinks it’s sooooooo pretty now! ๐Ÿ™‚ (don’t we all love shiny things?!?) I just think it makes a fun statement and is a unique way to use the rhinestones!

So now maybe you want to try out one of these for yourself? ๐Ÿ™‚ There are lots of possibilities! Wanna cash in on a great discount?
