Can you believe it is already 2017? I’m staring at that number in disbelief. It’s amazing how fast time goes. I feel like the older I get, the faster it goes. My baby is 3 and I keep telling him to stop growing for a minute or two. HA! My oldest is 7 and I don’t know how that happened!! I can’t imagine him being 17. How was your 2016? Mine? Let me tell ya, not easy. Hi there, I’m April from A Modern Teacher and I’m super excited to share with you some ideas for the new year and the new YOU!
The week after Christmas, always comes a feeling of renewal for me. I take some time to reflect on the past year and see if I stayed on the core path I want to be on and what my path looks like at the current, present moment. Throughout the year, I have check-ins on how I’m doing. I try to keep in mind the bigger picture as I conquer the small daily checklists (I’m a checklist girl–are you?). “What’s *really* important here?” I ask myself. Followed by, “Will this really matter in one year, five years, maybe even 20?” I try very hard to do the things that matter. As I think about what my present and future might look like, I wanna stay in check with what’s really important to me. And I feel strongly about living in the present. A concept that is hard for my brain. It constantly wants to look toward the future and recently it’s stuck in the past. So, the hardest struggle I had this past year was the passing of my mom just two months ago. She was only 61 and lost her battle to a rare cancer. It’s been a struggle and joy that somehow blends throughout my day, awkward at times, smooth at others.
Did you experience any valleys this year? I bet you did. Life is just like that, right? ~Peaks and valleys~ BUT this isn’t just about big valleys, it’s about the little stuff too. For example: exercising more, losing 10 pounds, reading a book, etc. You can read more about the little stuff on my blog.
Some background–So, this video you must check out is from Jill Thomas. The video is about 45 minutes long but I set it up on my phone and listened while I was cleaning and the time went by super fast. Jill lives in Utah and is an amazing photographer and creative person. She’s had some huge struggles…as a mom, as a person. But she’s created a new HER. I think the video is super inspirational. And if you’ve had any struggles this past year, it’s a must watch.
After watching the video and feeling so much aware of how I have to resolve to make my new “green”, I wanted to create some reminders I could keep in my house, maybe on my desk, maybe in my kitchen. And being the decor-planner-creator-crafter that I am, I wanted to put these reminders in a calendar. I’ve created this small calendar to encourage you on this journey too. I think, in making goals, resolutions, and checklists, it’s important for me not to lose sight of my “green”.
