Because we have been on summer break, we have been doing a lot of kids crafts! It has helped to instill learning, help with fine motor skills and it has also been a really fun part of our summer days! I am really blessed that both of my kids love crafting and creating and I am crossing my fingers that this lasts a long time! I know that making slime isn’t a new idea, but for my children (neither of whom remembered making it before although I am sure I have done it with them) it was new and a lot of fun for them! They both had a blast making this really fun and bright Neon Slime!
To make your own Neon Slime, you will need:
- (1) 4 oz. container of Elmer’s Glue
- 1 tsp Borax
- Neon Food Coloring
- Jar, cup or bowl for mixing
- Spoon or wood crafting stick for stirring
First my kiddos poured their glue into a mason jar. They had so much fun doing this! Then I filled the glue container with water and then I let them pour the water into the jar.
Then I let my children mix the glue and water.
Next we added lots of Neon food coloring! My kids wanted the colors to be bright so we added a lot! I let them each choose their own colors, my daughter chose pink and my son chose green.
You can of course use any colors you like, but the neon food coloring colors are especially fun and bright!
After we added the food coloring into the glue mixture, we carefully mixed our Borax with about 1/2 – 1 cup warm water and then gradually added it into the jar! This is where the magic happened!
After a few minutes of mixing, it became thick and stingy and goopey. Then the mixture began to separate into excess water and a thick, solid ball of stringy goop.
When it got to this point, I let my kiddos take the slime out of the jar and play with it. The more then played with it the more slime and goop-like (and less stringy) it became!
It was pretty magical!
I am feeling a bit sad that my kiddos are headed back to school soon..but I have truly enjoyed the memories we have made this summer!Pin It
