Hi, I’m Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings.

I blog about all things crafty, tasty, pretty and just plain life.  I’m an insanely huge fan of young adult fiction (love Potter and Hunger Games), I love trying new recipes, and am married to a super talented musician. I also run a handmade baby and toddler clothing shop on etsy called Rae Gun. Hopefully you’ll stop by my blog and shop and see some of my latest adventures.

Today I’ve got a quick and easy elf style stocking tutorial for you guys. I love the funky cuff and the best part is that you can use any fabrics to customize to fit any decor.

What You’ll Need

  • 1/3 Yard main stocking fabric (the red in mine)
  • 1/4 yard cuff fabric (the green in mine)
  • jingle bells (I used 7 since I made 7 points)
  • ribbon

What to Do

  1. Make the stocking pattern. You can either freehand the basic shape, use a stocking pattern you have on hand or even trace a stocking that you have. After you have the basic stocking shape make the cuff pattern. if you just lay a piece of paper over the top of the stocking you can draw the cuff shape. Just for refernce my stocking is about 16 inches from top to bottom. The straight edge is 7 inches. So the length of my cuff pieces were 14 inches (since it will wrap around both sides). My cuff from the top edge to the point is 5 inches and the upper part of the valley is about 3 inches.
  2. Cut out your fabric. You need 2 stocking pieces and 2 cuff pieces.  This is an unlined stocking but you could easily line it or even add some batting if you want.
  3. With right sides together sew the two stocking pieces together around the sides and bottom leaving the top open. You should now have a basic stocking shape.
  4. With right sides together sew the two cuff pieces together around the sides and bottoms.
  5. Make a snip by all the curves and indentions so when you flip it right side out it will lay nice and flat.
  6. Flip right side out and iron.
  7. Fold the cuff piece in half and pin inside the stocking so that the fold is lined up with the side seam on the toe side of the stocking and the two edges are lined up with the heel side of the stocking. Sew around the top.
  8. Flip the cuff out so the seam is hidden. Hand sew a loop of ribbon on the edge with the openings in the cuff folding under any raw edge that my be left.
  9. Hand sew jingle bells on and you’re done.

Hope you like my quick and easy elf style stocking. You could decorate it with all kinds of embellishments, use coll fabrics an even do some
neat bows for the hanging part.

And just for fun I’m going to giveaway two goodies from my shop. One person will win their choice of any of my diaper cover onesie gift sets with long sleeves. The winner can pick any of the sets and I’ll make that design with a long sleeve onesie (they’re perfect to pair with tights or baby legs).

A second winner will win their choice of any of my kiddo aprons. We love cooking in our family so my nieces really love these.

To enter this giveaway you must be a follower of The Crafting Chicks and leave a comment on this post saying which diaper cover
onesie set
(see your choices here) or which apron (see your choices here) you would like if you win .

For an extra entry, become a follow of Rae Gun on facebook and leave an additional comment here letting us know.

Giveaway will close on Sunday December 4 and the winner will be announced on the Crafting Chicks Facebook page.

If you try out the stocking tutorial I’d love to hear from you and see you’re creation. I have a link party on my blog every Wednesday where you can add it.
