Gretchen’s LOVELY Hutch Makeover
Hey we have such a fun makeover today….it’s Gretchen from the blog, “LANDSCAPES OF OUR LIFE.” Do you remember Brooke’s AMAZING hutch makeover??? Well this is yet ANOTHER amazing makeover from Gretchen. And I love the red and the globes…I also collect globes and they look SOO stinkin’ cute with the red hutch. It makes me want to go and buy one right now and do the same thing to it. So welcome Gretchen!!!

I came across a piece of furniture at a garage sale a few weeks back. While I didn’t have a need for it, I really wanted to get it. So, there I stood, staring at it – trying to think of a place in my house where I could put it. I left, went home, looked in my house, and went back to buy it. If anything, I wanted to try to redo it, like this beautiful dining room hutch makeover. This is what I bought for $20:
Other than being a little dirty and missing a knob, it was in very good condition. By using the “beautiful dining room hutch makeover” post above as a tutorial, I got to work. I took off the hardware and doors, lightly sanded it, and then primed it with Krylon Primer in Ruddy Brown.
Next up, spray painting on the final color! I choose Krylon Cherry Red. {Red is my favorite color and I have a frame in Cherry Red, as well as, other pops of red that would tie everything in.} Using 4 cans of Cherry Red, I spray painted everything on the hutch, except the hardware. {I did approximately 3 coats, letting dry in between.} For the hardware, I used Rust-Oleum Hammered spray paint in a black finish. This is really cool stuff! I replaced the knobs with cute ones I found 50% at Hobby Lobby.
Here is the final result:
As you can see, I had no trouble finding a place for it! 🙂 I really love it. It makes me happy when I walk in the door.
You can see how I made the mini fabric flag pennant behind the globes on THIS post.
xoxo,
THANKS GRETCHEN & HAPPY MAKEOVER…ING!!

Super FABULOUS! The globes are the PERFECT touch!
this is just beautiful! Red is my fave color too…..and I really love your bunting as well….lol
WOW! That’s gorgeous!
This looks great and I can’t believe that is just spray paint. It sounds like it was way too easy. I have a cabinet I am going to try this on. Thanks for the info!
I am confused. Did you make this for someone else? It doesn’t look like it’s in your house
Wonderful job. I love it!!
I really love this. I too am doing some vintage find reworking and I LOVE it!!
I just got a beautiful hutch but it has a Skelton key lock with no key. Don’t know what to do? Love love love the redo in red. Can anyone offer advice?
I would recomend talking to a local locksmith. They can usually help you out or point you in the right direction if you want to try to keep the locking mechanism.
Beautiful! I bought a hutch today at Goodwill that looks very similar to yours. I paid 75.00, and I thought I got a great deal! I am not sure if I am going to paint mine; I think I will try to find the value of mine first. Again, lovely job..
