Two Tone Kitchen Reveal

With a handful of paint chips and the Sherwin-Williams Color Visualizer to try out the colors with, I quickly whittled my options down to Peppercorn. But then, the second guessing started so on my trip to buy paint, I decided to ask the Sherwin-Williams staff for their opinion. The girl there was so helpful and asked me questions about the space and what I was after. I wanted a color that could take a beating since little feet sit in this space and leave kick marks. Also, the adjoining room has a lot of color in it. There’s an orange zebra rug that is pretty much an attention hog, and I didn’t want a color that would compete with it. Also, we have light gray bar stools, and I wanted a color that would make them stand out. She recommended using a complementary color, and we settled on Peppercorn (just like the Color Visualizer had). See part 1 of the process here.

peppercorn

I loved that when I described that I was looking for a color that would “ground” the kitchen, she knew exactly what I was talking about. My husband, on the other hand, looked confused when I used the word, but she totally got it! It’s so nice to work with people who speak my language! After I had the color in hand, I needed to make a choice of which line of paint to use. I went with the staff recommended, Emeraldâ„¢ Paint with a Satin finish, because of the built-in primer, durability, easy clean up and low VOC. This area is going to have to be pretty tough to survive my crew.

It was like painting with butter! It went on smooth and covered well.

In two coats I had the bead-board painted and ready to go around the bar.

Peppercorn added a richness to the kitchen that has been missing, and I think it looks good with the stainless and black appliances in the background. And, our barstools definitely stand out! I love it! Every time I walk in the room I stop and admire what a just a little change of color can do for a room.

Finally, after 18 months, our kitchen feels complete. Like it is here to stay and isn’t floating up, up and away.

Your kitchen is gorgeous! I love the color combination. I’ve used Peppercorn on furniture – such a rich beautiful color! … And I desperately need to give my family room a fresh new look! … And thanks for the tip on the Emerald paint line. I will give that a try for sure!

This comes at the perfect time. We are redoing our kitchen and I have yet to do the cabinets. I’m so nervous I will pick the wrong color. We have black bamboo floors so I’m thinking about doing and antique white, with black stain to “age” them. I will have to see what the visualizer suggests.

My husband and I just bought our house in August and have been doing little things here and there. We’re so scared of painting the wrong color! If we won the $100, I would definitely get started and it would have to be our bedroom. I hate the boring paint the home builder used!

I’d love to makeover my daughters room. She’s not a little baby anymore, so I’d like something a little bit more kiddish looking. Something that would look good as she grows older.

We bought a ‘fixer-upper’ a year ago and have been renovating a little at a time. We still have lots of painting to do and $100 would go a long way. I have been putting off painting our living room because I cannot decide on colors.

I would love to makeover my living room and turn it into a formal dining room with a bar. We have a beautiful fire place so we are planning on mounting our television over it. It would make a wonderful room for entertaining our friends and family.

I love that! The deep plum is such a nice accent color for that bar area. I’d like to work on updating my finished attic – two dull bedrooms and a dull beige bathroom.

While I love my bedroom/office combo, I would love to redo it just to make it fresher and more up to date. The last time I did anything in the room was in prior to April 2006, so it def is ready!
