Summer Survival Hair Kit for Girls

This post is sponsored by Kandoo and may contain affiliate links but all opinions are my own. Summer Survival Hair Kit for Girls Summer is almost here for me and as a mom of three girls the need to get hair done each day doesn’t stop!  My girls love to swim and we have passes to a local water park so I plan on being there tons.  I always know that I need to plan ahead and make sure that we can be ready to go at a moments notice to keep the girls busy and me sane. One of the worst problems I have is with hair supplies being strung all over the house and throughout each bathroom.  So I decided to put together a Summer Survival Hair Kit for us! Here’s what I included so you can make your own. A container with a carrying handle.  I searched for the perfect container and love this Small Sterilite one.  This one [Read More…]

Father’s Day Handprint Tree 2015

This Father’s Day Handprint Tree has become one of the most requested posts for this time of year. In fact, I’m always surprised how early you all start asking for this. This year I went a little more simple with the frame but added in a different tree to give you a few more options.  I think that I’ll have my three girls just add their hands wherever they want on the tree. Usually I try to stage it a bit but they are getting old enough that they can just place their hands and then it has more of their touch to it. If you have questions on how to do this please refer back to previous Father’s Day Handprint trees like: 2012 Father’s Day Handprint Tree 2013 Father’s Day Handprint Tree and 2014 Father’s Day Handprint Tree For the 2015 version download below All printables are property of The Crafting Chicks, LLP. Happy Easter Inspiring Printable

Encircled in the Arms of My Love

You know that we love to share an inspiring printable with you the first Sunday of each month and I’m so happy it’s my turn so I can wish you Happy Easter Sunday!    I sure hope that your Easter has been wonderful so far.  Mine has been spent with family and friends being reminded of the amazing gift our Savior gave to us. I found this quote: “At this Easter season we are reminded of why we love Him and of the promise He makes to His faithful disciples to become His beloved friends. The Savior made that promise and told us how, in our service to Him, He comes to us. … ‘Be faithful and diligent in keeping the commandments of God, and I will encircle thee in the arms of my love’ (D&C 6:20). I experienced the joy of coming closer to the Savior and of His coming closer to me most often through simple acts [Read More…]

DIY Jewelry Dish

This post is sponsored by Polyform Products. All opinions are my own. I’m always racking my brain trying to think up fun creative gift ideas, especially for Mother’s Day.  I was trying to think of all the things that I would love and decided I really needed a Jewelry dish.  I decided that my mom would love a DIY Jewelry Dish that my girls made for her.  What a fun keepsake this would be. Here’s what you’ll need: Polymer clay tin foil or wax paper butter knife rolling pin oven safe bowl To get my little helpers started we washed our hands and made sure our work surface was clean.  Place a sheet of tin foil or wax paper under each set of hands. I let my girls each choose 2 colors, and we cut them in half, leaving the other half for another project. The clay can be pretty hard so you’ll need to knead it out lots.  My helpers [Read More…]

I haven’t hand stitched since my fun Tree Ornaments and don’t do it as often as I would like. So when I saw this fun denim canvas at Michaels, I snatched it right up so I could stitch away. Only the Gentle Are Strong Free Printable

I shared this over at SNAP and wanted to make sure you all are able to see why this year I am choosing to Be Gentle. Do you know about the One Little Word New Year’s challenges?  This is a way to make New Year’s Resolutions much easier on yourself.  Instead of making a never ending, and sometimes never accomplished, list of things to do, you just focus on One Little Word.  Wanna know why I choose this word? Here’s the definition: Is it just me, or would you like to be described as: mild in temperament or behavior; kind or tender. I would love it if people said that about me…most importantly, if my children and husband could say that about me. This past November I attended a women’s conference called Time Out For Women.  It is full of uplifting nourishment for the soul, and a perfect way to escape, especially for this mom of 3 little girls. I saw this video clip there [Read More…]

Decadent Triple Chocolate Grasshopper Cookies::Bloggers Best 12 Days of Christmas

Hi! My name is Emily and I blog all the things (but mostly food) over at is this REALLY my life?. I love, love, LOVE being a part of any project the Crafting Chicks put together. These gals are amazingly talented and absolutely beautiful inside and out. When they asked if I’d be interested in participating in this year’s Bloggers’ Best: 12 Days of Christmas Edition, I was like, heck YES! It’s like being asked if I would mind a lifetime supply of Diet Coke. And a mini fridge to go with it. I was lucky enough to snag Day 10, also known as “Lords a Leaping Day.” You may not think this the best day for a foodie when “Maids a Milking” (gourmet hot cocoa?), “Partridge in a Pear Tree” (pear tart?) or “Geese a Laying” (breakfast quiche?) would work so much better. But one of my favorite flavors is “grasshopper”—you know, that absolutely divine combination of mint and [Read More…]

Simple Homemade Milk Bath::Bloggers Best 12 Days of Christmas

Hi everyone! It’s Leanne from Organize and Decorate Everything. I’m so happy to be here to share with you my gift idea for Eight Maids a Milking. I like to pamper myself when I can and I like to think of fun ways to pamper my friends. What better way than to give them something relaxing and soothing for the bath. What You Need: 1 1/2 cup Whole Powdered Milk 1/2 cup Cornstarch 1/2 cup Baking Soda Essential Oils (about 10 drops) What could be easier than 4 ingredients? The milk moisturizes your skin, the cornstarch soothes irritation, and the baking soda softens. The essential oils add a wonderful scent. Mix the ingredients together in a large bowl. To fill 2 wide mouth Mason jars and have a little left over for myself I used 4 1/2 cups of milk, 1 1/2 cups [Read More…]

Family Lacing Cards::Bloggers Best 12 Days of Christmas

Hello, friends! I’m Kierste, the girl behind the blog Simply Kierste, and I’m delighted to be here! I adore the Crafting Chicks, and it’s so fun for me to be a part of the 12 Days of Christmas series, and share a really fun, easy, and inexpensive gift idea! We live far away from all of our family–most of them live thousands of miles away, and my sister is the closest at twelve hours away. We don’t get to see them as often as we would like, but it’s important to me that we do things to keep connected, and to help my kids know their family. I thought it would be fun to make a set of family lacing cards for my kids for Christmas a couple of years ago, and they LOVE them. I made a card for each of our siblings, and their families, and it’s so fun to have their cute faces so often. It’s a [Read More…]

Birch Wood Glitter Ornaments::Bloggers Best 12 Days of Christmas

Hi everyone! I’m Crystal from A Pumpkin & A Princess and I’m thrilled to be here to today! I loved the 12 days of Christmas event last year and am excited to share another project this year. For me the holidays and glitter go hand in hand. I’ve been glittering ornaments since I was 4 and I don’t think a year goes by that I don’t make some kind of glitter ornament or holiday decoration. This year I’m liking the plaid trend mixed in with a touch of gold. For the five golden rings I made these birch wood glitter ornaments. Supplies: ribbon (from Michaels) birchwood circle glue (I’m using Mod Podge) gold glitter (Martha Stewart -smokey quartz) hot glue To make the ornament I applied glue around the center of the birch wood. I wanted to leave that dark ring and used that as my guide on where to apply the glue. I then added glitter and removed any [Read More…]

Redbox Neighbor Gift::Bloggers Best 12 Days of Christmas

Hey friends and readers of the adorable Crafting Chicks!  I am Pam from Over the Big Moon and I am excited to share with you this Redbox Neighbor Gift Idea!  This idea actually came to me in the early hours of the morning, after being up all night with my daughter.  My poor Dylan girl had been screaming her head off for the previous 5 hours (her ear drum ended up bursting) and I was beyond exhausted and as I laid down I glanced at the Redbox case that was laying on my dresser and *BING* the idea hit me! Both my blog partner, Lisa, and I are busy wives, moms, bloggers, housekeepers, PTA helpers, involved in our churches, taxi drivers, etc and so we LOVE SIMPLE!  But, when the idea is simple, affordable and memorable then we have a win-win-win, which makes us beyond happy!  So, I was super excited a few weeks ago when this idea popped in my [Read More…]

I simply cut a bird shape out of the Christmas paper with my CAMEO and then cut a mirrored image to put on the back. Then cut about 10″ of twine and hot glue it to the back of one bird. Its always an honor to be part of this beautiful blog and be friends with such wonderful ladies. The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear! (I love that movie.) And another good way to spread Christmas cheer is by bringing neighbor gifts. Everyone knows that. When I was growing up, during Christmas break my family would spend one whole night baking together. We would make homemade caramels and melting chocolate suckers and cinnamon rolls. Then the next night, we would drive around delivering our gifts to friends and neighbors and seeing the Christmas lights. I LOVED that part of Christmas. Paint Crackle Pumpkins

This post is sponsored by Elmer’s. All opinions are my own.   Have you heard about Paint Crackle?  My mom was a big tole painter back in the day and I remember her using the technique.  I thought it might be fun to break it out for these little ceramic pumpkins I’ve had sitting around. Do you know what I discovered?  You don’t need expensive creams to get a paint crackle effect.  All you need is some Elmer’s Glue All. So here’s how I achieved my fun looking crackled pumpkins. First off paint your pumpkins with a base color that you want to show through.  I choose a Espresso from Americana. And after that paint dries, paint a layer of Elmer’s Glue All over top.   You can see the difference in the pumpkin coated in Elmer’s Glue vs.  the one that has just been painted.  Once the glue has dried add your top layer of paint.  Go light on [Read More…]

Fancy Pumpkin

This post is in partnership with Michael’s #TrickYourPumpkin sweepstakes. All ideas and opinions are my own. Every year my extended family has this fun huge Halloween party.  There is a contest involved for the best pumpkin.  I have yet to win. I have some pretty clever cousins, aunts and uncles.  So when Micheal’s announced their #TrickYourPumpkin sweepstakes. I was excited to take part.  Now I know my pumpkin isn’t earth shattering, but I love it.  It’s fancy and gold and simple.  Here’s how you can make one too. First run to Michael’s and snag a pumpkin and this fun gold decoupage trim from the Martha Stewart line. There are all sorts of fun trims you could use, but I liked this fun fancy stuff. Take your trim and you could always start to hot glue it right off the bat, but I wanted to make sure everything was where I wanted it, so I start by taping the trim down.   Then [Read More…]

Halloween Book Banner

I decided I needed some new Halloween decor this year. My mom found this old poetry book at my grandma’s house and I knew want I wanted to do with it.  It was to become a Spooky Halloween Book Banner! I found the pages that I wanted to use…some are spookier than others, like The Raven. Then I went into my Cricut Design Space and choose a few spooky Halloween images.  There’s a ton in there so it was lots of fun to find just what I was looking for. Then I gathered up my Halloween paper, most of which is from s-e-i, and got cutting on my Cricut Explore.   I had this cream lace hanging out in my craft supplies and used it to hang the pages from. I love the fun added touch it gives the banner.     Then I decided to attach the pages to the lace with staples.  You could go with whatever you [Read More…]

Fall Porch Ideas for Small Porches

Banana Sour Cream Cake

I fully admit that I buy banana’s in bulk so that I can turn them into a tasty treat once they’ve gotten really ripe.  This last cake might be my favorite.  Could have something to do with the cream cheese frosting, and the way the sour cream makes the cake so super moist.  Plus I decided to use coconut oil instead of vegetable oil, which kicked the flavor up just a bit. Kleenex Teacher Gift Idea with Printable Tag

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Huggies and Kleenex for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. I love putting together quick, cool, and tasty desserts that look like you’ve been in the kitchen for hours.  This is one of my favorites because it combines orange and vanilla, almost like a creamsicle. Just a warning, this does need to be in a freezer for at least 3 hours so make sure you plan ahead for your next party or barbecue. But having this dessert done ahead of time will just make things easier for you! Save Print Orange Cream Squares Ingredients 1½ cups crushed Nilla Wafers or graham crackers (about 40 Nilla wafers) ¼ cup of butter, melted 2 cups cold milk 2 packages Vanilla Instant Pudding 1 tub of whipped topping, thawed, divided 2 cups orange sherbet, softened Instructions Line a 13 x 9-inch pan with foil, extending the end of foil over the sides of the pan. Patriotic Bundt Cake

If you are needing an easy dessert for your upcoming BBQ you will be covered with this sweet treat. This recipe is an old family recipe but I spiced it up with a little red, white, and blue sprinkle action. I looked everywhere and could not find red, white and blue jimmies until I went to Bake It Pretty.  This store has it all so check it out if you need any baking supplies. Save Print Patriotic Bundt Cake Ingredients 1 box of yellow cake mix 1 small box vanilla instant pudding 4 eggs 8 oz. sour cream ¼ cup oil ¾ cup water 3 tablespoons flour red, white, and blue jimmies red and blue sugar sprinkles Instructions Heat oven to 350 degrees Mix all ingredients together. Novi Security System Kickstarter

It seems like the summer times brings out all the bug and bad guys in my neighborhood.  There are many neighborly reminders to shut garage doors and leave outdoor lights on at night. Many of  our neighbors have opted to have security systems installed in their homes.  I’ve been reluctant mainly because of the contract and monthly fees. So once I heard of Novi, I had to share.     A security system that sends photos and alerts to your phone (no contracts, no monthly fees, inexpensive, and portable)! We are working with this awesome Kickstarter project and want to get the word out! If you want to feel safe and secure go visit the site.  They have done a lot of homework to get this product to be the perfect solution for any home, apartment or business.  I know I’m excited to get these installed in my home! Amusement Park Must-Haves: When Going With Kids

This post may contain affiliate links It’s the season for roller coasters and ferris wheels!  You know I love to go to Disneyland, but I also love going to the local amusement park, Lagoon, and all the water parks nearby as well.  I’ve developed my list of go-to items that are easy to pack but are things that are good to have on hand.  Since I go so often, I have people ask me all the time what they should pack and take with them so I thought I’d share it with you all too. Water Bottle: I like to have a water bottle for each member of the family.  Our family favorites are these Camelbak ones for kids and these Camelbak ones for adults First-Aid Kit: It never fails that someone, either that’s in your group or not, will need a bandage.  I have found taking this little first aid kit saves a lot of time and stress. Tropical Fruit & Greek Yogurt Parfait

This post is sponsored by DOLE Fruit in Jars but all opinions are my own and this parfait is delicious. Things are in full summertime swing at my house.  We are running from swim lesson to park dates and pool parties.  I am constantly looking for some healthy and quick snacks ideas for my kids and I to eat while almost always on the go. Fruit is a must for us all year round, and that’s one reason I was so excited to try out DOLE Fruit in Jars.  They are super easy, tasty, and very convenient for on the go families like ours.  I love that the DOLE Fruit Jars have a resealable lid so you can use what you need and stick the rest in the fridge.  And they are packed in 100% fruit juice, not a sugar syrup. One thing I’ve learned is to pair fruit with some protein to pack the best snacking punch. So I [Read More…]

Chalkboard Herb Garden

This post is sponsored by Michaels but all opinions are my own. Wanna know a secret?  I actually really enjoy cooking. Yup. I hate cleaning up the mess, but sure love throwing a bunch of things together and eating the outcome. Because of my fun hobby, I swear I spend a fortune on fresh herbs. I decided to remedy that by making my own herb garden.  Now I know this isn’t anything new or earth shattering, but I was searching for a fun idea on the Michaels website.  They now have online shopping and my new favorite feature is the one-click shopping lists.  This is where you see a project you want to make and you click a button and it loads EVERYTHING you would need for that project into your cart.  You can go through your cart and delete something you may have already, or change paint colors, but you don’t have to search or think about all those little things [Read More…]

Disney Vacation Incentives for Kids: Disney Dollars

Our Family loves going to Disneyland!  We could live there.  I’m sure many of you feel the same way. 😉 A few years ago my husband and I decided it was about time we gave the girls some responsibility to purchase their own prizes, treats, and whatever else they feel they “need” while we are there. You know how it goes. You get in the park and hit some rides but the kids always want to check out a store just to “see” what’s there.  They beg for something and you either give in or tell them no.  And how do I tell this cute face no? So now they have to do chores at home to earn these Disney Dollars.  These are things beyond their normal chores, but nothing too difficult.  I also will reward them with Disney Dollars if they do something extra nice or helpful without any complaints.  They can even earn them on the drive [Read More…]

Flowers for Thee Gift Tags

Sometimes a mom just needs a nice bouquet of flowers.  I’ve found that placing a bouquet in something fun and whimsical makes for the perfect present.  I found this fun pitcher at Zions Mercantile, and thought it would be so fun to use at a vase. After I added water, I then sectioned off the opening with tape.  I wanted my roses to have that bunch look. I cut the stems to a shorter length and started adding them into one section at a time. Before you know it, you have a beautiful arraignment. Now you know you need to add a special tag.  I made up these.  There are 2 different styles and one set that is a mix that doesn’t say “Happy Mother’s Day” so you can use it to gift all the time.   Scallop Tags Washi Tape Tags Generic Tags All printables and downloads designed by The Crafting Chicks are for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Food Photography: The Easy Way

food photos10

When it comes to photographing food there is soooooo much to be said. Everything from lighting and shutter speed to staging and composition. Some photographers devote their entire work to food, like Michael Ray or Lou Manna. (*beware…you WILL be hungry by the time you finish looking at their photos!) But I like to take an easy, natural approach to food. If there is one thing you need to know about me it’s that I like to keep things simple. If something takes too much time, set up or clean-up, I tend to stay away. Could this be a form of laziness? Perhaps…but because I’m not a fan of elaborate set-up I’ve found quick, easy and stunning ways to do things. So let’s start. Food Photography Tip #1 The way to get natural looking pictures is to only use natural light. So turn off all of your overhead lights and only use what is coming in from the windows.  With that said let [Read More…]

Rag Rug

How to Make a Rag Rug

I have long loved these rag rugs, but once I see the price tag I move away from them quickly. I finally decided to make one!  Here’s what you’ll need if you want to make one: 1 rollie pollie of Riley Blake Fabric 4 yards of some plain coordination fabric (I think it would be fun to get 2yds of one color and 2yrds of another) a rotary cutter needle and white thread sewing machine and scissors Begin by cutting your 4 yards of fabric into 2.5″  long strips. Yes this is a lot of cutting but if you have the rollie pollie you are saving a bit of cutting. Take three of your fabric strips, layer them on top of each other and sew a stitch across the top. Are you ready to get your braid on?  Take your sewn strips and tack them down on something with at safety pin.  Begin loosely braiding your strips together. Once you [Read More…]

The supplies you’ll need: Bakers Twine Paper Straws Green paper Cricut Explore or Clover punch Hole punch I had a little helper through this project which was so fun.  We began by using the new Cricut Explore to cut out the clover shapes onto fun green paper. She loved being able to watch the machine cut. I  punched a hole in the center of each clover so they would be easy to string. Then we cut our paper straws into about 1.5″ segments, and cut a length of bakers twine about 25″ and she began making her necklace. We had so much fun and now she is pinch proof! I can’t wait to make some more of these with my other girls! Pin It

Blurry Background Photography Tips

A NICE BLURRY BACKGROUND, AHHH. Does your brain start to spin when you start talking about ISO, shutter speed, and aperture? Not to fear, my friends! It is really quite simple. You just need to take it piece by piece and understand each term. So lets talk a bit about aperture, shall we? When you adjust the aperture on your camera you are adjusting the amount of light that is coming into your camera through your lens but you are also adjusting the amount of blurriness in your photo. (If you are reading this and thinking…aperture? I never adjust my aperture because I have my camera set on auto…tisk, tisk. It’s time to get it off auto! ) An example of a small aperture is f/22 (“small” referring to the opening of the lens) whereas an example of a very large aperture is f/1.8. (I know it sounds like that should be switched around but stay with me…) A large aperture (small number, [Read More…]

Glittery Valentine Candy Dishes

Disclaimer: This project is sponsored by Elmer’s. Do you love this playfulness of Valentine’s Day like I do?  I love to add a little fun flare to my Valentine’s decor and what better way then with GLITTER! I decided the best way to do that this year was to add that fun sparkle to some plain white dishes, some in cute heart shapes.  I snagged some Elmer’s Craft Bond Glitter and got to work. I followed all package directions and made sure my dishes were clean and ready to go. Applied the included glue, just a thin layer, and then let the glittery fun begin. I shook off the excess glitter and then let the dishes set so the glue could dry completely before I did anything else. Next, I took some Elmer’s Glue-All and put a thin layer of that over top of the glitter so that it would seal it in.  I don’t plan on washing these pieces in my dishwasher [Read More…]

Grandma’s Homemade Fudge–The BEST!

I remember countless Christmas’  sitting around the kitchen counter helping my mom make my Great Grandma Clarke’s homemade fudge.  It is so heavenly and I think one of my favorite treats of the season.  I wanted to make sure to share the recipe with you.  Since it’s an old homemade fudge recipe, it does take some time.  But believe me, every second is worth it! Place your sugar and cocoa in a heavy pan.  Add in the cream, butter, and vanilla. Bring it to a boil.  Place candy thermometer in pan and cook until temperature reaches 238 degrees F(114 degrees C).  Don’t scrape the sides of the pan while you are making this recipe. The sugar on the sides of the pan will cause the whole batch to crystallize and have a grainy texture.  You can wash down the sides of the pan using a pastry brush and some water.  Just brush the water on the sides of the pan. These “MERRY KISSMAS” treat bags are a simple way to spread holiday cheer amongst family and friends during the Christmas season. And the bonus is that my girls love to fill these little bags with their favorite HERSHEY’S KISSES Brand Milk Chocolates and give them to their friends at school before winter break starts. Santa Bag Tutorial

Today I wanted to share a new Christmas idea.  Let’s call it the Santa Bag.  The idea is that the bag comes to your home from Santa with a note that tells your kids to pack up all their broken or old toys and so Santa can fix them and clean them up for other boys and girls who don’t have as much to have.  Genius huh! I’ve been thinking this one over since last Christmas. Never seems to fail that more and more toys come to stay but not as many leave through out the year. I’m hoping this helps. Santa Sack What you’ll need: 1 1/2 to 2 yards of Christmas fabric about 9-10 yards of Cord or rope (depending on the size of bag you are making.) I used 2 yards of this great Medium Dots Christmas cotton fabric from Riley Blake Designs. Measure in 1/2″ and iron the sides and tops in sides. Sew down each [Read More…]

Holiday Lights with a Twist

This post is sponsored by Command™ Brand.  All thoughts and pictures are my own. Do you hang up lights for the holidays?  I love driving through the neighborhood and seeing all the lights and Christmas displays. There is just something about lights at night that brings a sense of awe and wonder for me. This year I wanted to add a little twist to the regular old lighting display so I decided to write a message to everyone that passes by. Materials Needed: Writing instrument (I used some dry erase crayons) String of lights (I used 2 strings) Ruler 3M Cord Organization Clips (Appr 9 packages of the 4 packs) Command™ Brand First things first.  You will want to clean and prep the vinyl fence area you will be using.  Follow all package instructions for this. Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls (Dairy Free) {Christmas Tradition Series}

We are so excited to welcome Delia from Delia Creates. I love stopping by her site to find great tips and patterns for sewing.  She also has an amazing list of kids crafts for all seasons and just any old time.  Make sure you stop by and say hello! ****************************************************************** I am so excited to be here hanging with the Crafting Chicks! Our Christmas traditions, like many of yours, revolve around food. Finding out that our youngest child is severely allergic to dairy, eggs, and peanuts has sort of shaken up those food traditions. So this year…I thought why not shake things up even more. I took our traditional cinnamon roll recipe and made it vegan, or dairy free AND I made it yummier. Or at least we think so. 😉 Even though it’s dairy free. I promise you can’t tell it’s “different.” It’s delicious! You start by using my Best Bread Ever basic dough recipe found HERE. Growing up we would turn on some Christmas music, make hot cocoa, and then gather around our big family table and start making Christmas cards. I love making homemade Christmas cards and love that I am passing it onto my own children. Making handmade Christmas cards is special because you can personalize each and everyone. We have some fun Christmas traditions inour family from making wontons from scratch to making handmade ornaments but my favorite tradition has got to be watching White Christmas. I don’t know about you, but it seems like each year we accumulate more and more toys.  I thought this would be the perfect solution to our problem and hopefully it will help your family out too. Each year when our elf Peter comes, he will bring this sack with him and the cute little printable attached.  I will probably work out some kind of Family Home Evening lesson to go with it so that the girls know that we have plenty and need to worry about helping others by giving what we have excess of to those who don’t have much or any.  If I do anything formal I’ll make sure I share it here. 😉 All printables and downloads designed by The Crafting Chicks are for PERSONAL USE ONLY. Oh, and they are so easy and fun that you probably want to make some for your friend’s and family members for gifts. Fabric requirements: I used a Rollie Polie of Priscilla. Love this fabric line. I also used an old bath towel I had for the backing.  You could buy terry cloth if you wanted but if you have an old towel hanging around I’d recommend using that. Cool Weather Picks

I love a good hot chocolate and this Starbucks Salted Caramel or the dark chocolate are my favorites. It’s a sad day when I have to trade in my flip flops for real shoes, but if I do at least I have Smartwool socks to help get me through. They are a favorite at our house, and somehow Santa always seems to sneak a pair into each of our stockings. My husband loves the Diamond Jims. I like the taller socks to wear with boots, but my favorite are the ultra light PhD ankle socks. Normally I wouldn’t spend very much on a pair of socks, but these socks last for a really long time and I think they are worth every penny. Quick, Easy, and Spooky Halloween Decor

halloween decor

I was feeling like I wanted a little something new for Halloween this year.  I had some ideas of what I wanted and my Cricut was going to help me do it. I had this wooden box, from some Melissa & Doug toy set my girls got, and jazzed it up with some grey and white stripes.  Got out my black Cricut vinyl and used the Monster Bash cartridge to cut out this spooky house. The “Eek” is using Boys Will Be Boys Font cartridge.  Loved that font with this. I didn’t stop there.  I searched for a fun bat and using my left over All Hallow’s Eve from Carta Bella paper set, I made this bat specimen art. I choose the bat from the Creative Memories This and That cartridge.  Cut him out on this great Carta Bella paper, and mounted him using foam squares onto this other great paper. Chicks Picks:: Organizational Products

Chick Picks: Favorite Organizational Items

I always get a bug to clean and organize once the kids go back to school.  Here are some of the items we couldn’t do without to keep us on track and organized.   Mom Do It All Calendar I must have a calendar with everything where I can see it.  I use my phone and computer calendars, but there is nothing like having it written down in my opinion.  I love this one because it has lines for each family member and gives you a lot more space than other calendars.  It’s also a 17 month calendar which I love! Sterilite Stackable Storage Drawers I have always loved these. This is my very favorite organizational item. They are stackable and durable. I have a tower of 3 in each of my kids’ closets. Last month I was over at Skip to my Lou last sharing how to make Parachute Toys!  Well, I don’t want any of you to miss out on the fun so here’s my post just in case you missed it over there! You are going to need basic supplies: A plastic shopping bag scissors string (or baker’s twine if that’s handy) tape a small toy figure that isn’t too heavy Take your bag and cut down each side.  Then you will cut out squares for the parachutes.  For the small parachutes I used 6×6 inch squares 9×9 for the large. Next, take your string and cut it 9 inches long for a small parachute and 12 inches for a large one.  You will need 4 pieces of string per parachute. Take the parachute and punch a hole in each corner far enough in that it won’t tear easily, but not too far in.  Tie a piece of string through the [Read More…]

Doll Bedding For Poppy Seed Projects Beds

I was so excited when I found out that Poppy Seed Projects was going to start making doll beds that fit American Girl Dolls.  As a mother of 3 girls, (and 3 American Girl dolls), I knew that these were going to be a hit at my house! For weeks my two oldest begged me to begin their beds.  I put it off, cause if I’m honest, I have to gear up for sewing.  Not that this project is super hard, but I have to get myself to a special mental place where I can be a nice mom, but still focus and concentrate.  I’m not a mom that can sew with the girls hanging on me. Once I had my mental faculties in check, I got my cute fabric from Riley Blake Designs and got to sewing.  I followed a lot of the fun cute ideas that Crafting Chick Jamie shared in her post about doll bedding.  I’ll give [Read More…]

Strength Of My Love For You Printable

You might remember seeing this quote from my girls room re-do and the colorful frame wall I did.  I have loved this quote since I first pinned it. I think it’s because getting, and staying pregnant, was so hard for me that once it finally happened I savored the sound of each heartbeat.  It brings me a bit of joy to think that each of my girls knows what my heart sounds like from the inside!   I used 3 different backgrounds and printed each of them because I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to use.  That is good news for you cause now you have choices.  Strength Of My Love—Once you download you will need to unzip the file in order to print. This pink one worked best for my room, but I almost went with the polka dots.  And who can say no to the chevron stripes?  Each of the backgrounds is a part of Crystal Wilkerson’s [Read More…]

Colorful Frame Gallery

Colorful Frame Gallery on The Crafting Chicks

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this post today!  This project has been one that took me a little longer to work on, but it has paid off.  I am in LOVE I tell you, L-O-V-E! I knew when I started my girl’s new room that I would want to add pops of color where I could.  The chevron wall was fun but I still wanted a little more.  I also loved the idea of having great uplifting sayings as well as family pictures surrounding them.  So I ran into Poppy Seed Projects and started pulling frames off the shelves and placing them on the floor.  Holly, from Poppy Seed, was so good to help me mix and match so that I could get the look I wanted.  We got everything laid out on the floor and then started deciding what colors to paint everything. Ready for some hints on colors? You’ll want to choose 4-5 colors.  Having [Read More…]

Halloween Character Candles

I’m getting so excited for fall.  One of the funnest holidays is Halloween don’t you think?!?  I’m not into all the creepy, scary, bloody things.  I like the fun cute things.  What better way to have fun with Halloween decor then making  Halloween character faces on votive candle holders? I found a 6 pack of clear votive candle holders at Hobby Lobby and thought I could do something fun and festive with them. I used DecoArt glass paint to just paint one layer over each of the glass votives.  I followed all the directions on the paint.   Once the paint was dry, I use the Deco Art 3D Opaque Glass Writers for the faces.  It was so fun to draw fun faces on these little guys! Ombre Bud Vase

If you like simple but statement making projects this one is for you! I could have left these nice and clear, ya know, like boring glass.  But I decided to jazz these up a bit with frosted glass paint.  I went to my Americana glass painting supple stash and found the perfect colors. Using a paint brush, I applied the paint in 3 sections.  The first section I did 3 layers of paint letting each layer dry before applying the next layer.  The second section I did 2 layers and let each dry. With the third section only receiving a light layer.  I tried to over lap and blend each layer in to the next.  It is subtle but I love it! I [Read More…]

Monogram Painted on Canvas

ink-effects-monogram on canvas

I was really excited to get to try the new Ink Effects from DecoArt. Ink Effects is a new paint line for use on fabrics.  The amazing thing with this paint line is that you can paint any piece of white paper and then iron onto fabric without any crusty feel.  It is truly fun and amazing.  Where has this paint been all my life? I had a couple ideas of what I wanted to do but I settled on making a canvas monogram for my baby girl’s room. I found a really cute font, Floral, for my letter. I used the Ink Effects paints to add the color I wanted.  In the instructions it will tell you that the paint color will not be the same as the iron on color.  The color you iron on will be brighter, so don’t be disappointed with your color when you first paint. Since I was painting onto cotton, I used the cotton fabric [Read More…]

Father’s Day Hand-print Tree Free Printable

Father's Day Handprint Tree printable

If you’ve followed this blog for a while you know I am a huge fan of using my kids hand-prints to make gifts and keepsakes.  I saw something similar to this on Pinterest and knew that I wanted to make it. Then I put some green paint on my girl’s hands and had them stamp the tree.  Super cute, super easy. Here’s your chance for a fun Father’s Day gift.  Just print this out.  I sent mine to Sam’s Club photo as an 11×14, (which is the size I’ve made the printable).  This way you will have nice spacing for the hand-prints.  Make sure that you turn off the auto color correct.  Your tree will turn out black instead of brown if you don’t.  Guess who forgot to do it?  Yup, I did.  But they were nice enough to fix my mistake. First off, I cut my stencil out so it would fit inside my dishes and taped it down.   I used the Martha Stewart sponge pouncers to apply the paint.  Be careful not [Read More…]

How To Make A Floor Puzzle

My girls LOVE puzzles.  They will sit for a long time working on puzzles and that makes me happy cause they are busy doing something besides watching TV. Since General Conference for the LDS Church is coming up this weekend, I thought it was the perfect time to make some church related puzzles for them to work on while we are listening. These are so quick, easy and fun to make, I just had to share. For this project you will need some foam core board, spray adhesive, a rotary cutter/box cutter, and pictures.  For the picture of my girls,  I found one that had been a little beat up so I didn’t mind cutting it up. You could really do anything that has meaning to your kids.  I think that’s where the real fun comes in. First off I bought my foam core at Staples.  It was a 30×40″ piece so I can still get at least two more puzzles [Read More…]

Last Minute St. Patrick’s Day Gift Idea::Guest Post from Detail-Oriented Diva

We have a fun guest post today.  Meet Natalie from Detail-Oriented Diva.  Natalie does all sorts of fun things on her site and we are excited she is here to share a quick last minute St. Patrick’s Day gift ideas with you! Hello everyone! Natalie K. here from “Detail-Oriented Diva“.  I am thrilled to be guest posting with The Chicks today and super-duper thankful for the opportunity to share some of my creations with you.  St. Patrick’s Day is almost here, so I wanted to share some last minute teacher (or anybody) gift ideas. I came up with this cute little diddy for an easy teacher gift.  I basically just got a bottle of hand sanitizer (this one was an 8 oz. bottle) and dressed it up. This particular sanitizer has a green tint because it contains aloe vera,  but yours doesn’t have to.  It will still look just as cute if it’s clear!  I printed out my tag and [Read More…]

{Dr. Seuss Birthday Party}

This weekend was bitter-sweet.  My baby turned 1!  Exciting and fun? Yes! But my baby is a toddler now.  What’s a mom to do? She was born on March 2, which is Dr. Seuss’s birthday.  I just knew I had to throw a Dr. Seuss inspired party. I got lots of fun idea from Pinterest which you can find on my Party board, but here’s my little twist to it. For my little one I made a cute red and white tutu.  How could I not right? I found a cute saying for the invite and threw her picture on it.  If you are planning on doing a Dr. Seuss party you will want to download the Grinched Font.  It’s free and it is perfect! For the decor, I wanted to incorporate all the Dr. Seuss’s books we had. I got my Who Bug the Happy Birthday To You book and had everyone who came to the party sign it will [Read More…]

Stripe Frame with ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape with Edge-Lock Paint Line Protector

I was so excited when we were contacted to work with 3M in promoting ScotchBlue’s new Painter’s Tape with Edge-Lock Line Protector. I don’t know about you, but I have tried to paint with the cheap painter’s tape, and let’s just say, the result wasn’t pretty.  There were places where the paint bled through and the perfect line I was striving for wasn’t there. Ugh! That is not the case with the new Edge-Lock technology.  This gives you a perfect line every time. So here’s how I used ScotchBlue.  I made this cute striped frame. (My sweet girl is not included, although I did have a hand in making her too.) I got this frame from Poppy Seed Projects and I wanted to add just a subtle stripe to it. I had some pink spray paint and got a clear gloss spray paint for the subtle stripe.  First I painted the frame with the pink and let it dry over [Read More…]

Read My Lips Valentine

When I saw all the fun lip sucker mold Kirsten got from Orson Gygi, my brain went crazy with fun Valentine ideas.  This is what I made for my daughter to give her friends. I went into Photoshop and created this card. (Sorry I can’t share it.  I used Shabby Princess, Sweetie Pie Collection, and I don’t have permission to share.  LOVE this kit though!  I’ve made TONS of fun projects with it.  Defiantly worth buying!  The font is Everytime I Miss You.) I printed these off on my home printer in a 4×6 on matte photo cardstock.  I found a package of it at Sam’s Club for around $10. My girls and I made the fun chocolate lip suckers.  I followed Kirsten’s directions that she had for melting the chocolate.  It was super easy. We of course had to have some fun with these suckers…The girls had to try them out right?!? I had the girls sign their names to the [Read More…]

Necktie Redo: {Necktie Necklace}

I’m so excited to share my fun Necktie Necklace redo with you today.  I’ve had this one in my head for like 6 months just needing the time to get it together.  Now that it’s been made let me tell you, it comes together really quick. So here’s what you need: a man’s necktie, beads (I used wooden ones I bought at Hobby Lobby), a sewing machine, and an un-picker. My husband had this really nice necktie that had a big stain on it.  I was super excited when I got permission to make something new out of this one.  I began by unpicking the back stitches of the tie.  Super easy cause there wasn’t too much to unpick. Once you have it all unpicked, you just want to remove the stiff material in the middle of the tie. Fold the tie, right sides together and sew a straight line to make a tube. Put the material so the right [Read More…]

Rick Rack Rosette and Pearl Necklace

Rick Rack Rosette and Pearl Necklace

This Christmas I made a ton of the Rick Rack Rosettes Nikkala posted last year.  I just loved them and they are so fun to make. I wanted to add my own spin so I got a strand of cheap pearls, made some tiny rick rack rosettes and put it all together to create a fun vintage style necklace. It’s pretty simple really, but here’s how I did it. I followed all of Nikkala’s instructions for making the rick rack rosettes, but instead of making my rick rack 10-12 inches long, I made mine 5 inches so that they would be mini. I then cut my pearl strand and restrung it sewing the rick rack rosettes on jump rings and placing them on the strand as well. I think it is so fun and the rick rack rosettes add just a fun bit of whimsy. I’ll be sharing how to make the Rick Rack Rosettes on Fresh Living today at 1pm [Read More…]

Felt Christmas Trees

I shared these fun little guys on I {heart} Nap Time for her Crazy Christmas Crafters. I didn’t want anyone to miss out so here are my felt Christmas trees.  These little guys are so much fun to have around and there are so many things you can do to make them your own.  Here’s the basics of what you will need. Wool Felt in various colors (I used a dark green, light green and a white.  I used one sheet of 18×18″ of each color to get all three of my trees made.) Styrofoam cones in various sizes cutting board and rotary cutter sewing machine glue gun   First off, I cut my wool felt into various sized strips from 3″-4″ for each color. Then I wrapped the felt around the cone to get the shape for the felt to be cut into.  You will want to make sure to get some curvature with your felt.  This part is very tricky, but once you [Read More…]

We were honored when Marilyn of The ArtsyGirl Connection contacted us about being involved in her Project Pink:: Painting the Blog world Pink for a day in honor of Breast Cancer.   This subject touches very close to my heart because 4 1/2 years ago my dear sweet mother-in-law lost her fight with breast cancer.  My girls will never in this life time know the wonderful woman that raised their father, other then in stories and pictures.  I want to help in any way I can to make this disease disappear. About a year ago, Jen made this adorable Find the Cure water bottle label.  Just the perfect thing to help support any breast cancer cause.  I asked Jen if she would mind if we posted it as a free printable and she was more than happy to help.  She is a champion for a good cause.  We sure love Jen and are grateful for her talents!  Go here to [Read More…]

Tutu Costume Ideas :: A Challenge from Little Cherry Blossoms

_MG_0376 m

We were excited when Carey from Little Cherry Blossoms sent us a craft challenge.  She sent us each some tulle and asked us to come up with fun ideas for tutu Halloween costumes.  Here’s what we did: Becky made a darling Candy Corn tutu out of orange and peach tulle, along with a spunky tulle and ribbon headband. Nikkala made this amazing Owl tutu out of peach and brown–check out her fun fabric “feathers” and her owl hood! Instead of a tutu skirt, Kirsten made a pretty mermaid dress out of blue and green (and some extra sparkly fabric she had on hand). Brooke created a pirate girl’s tutu with black and a melony pink tulle, complete with a black satin rosette eyepatch! ARRRRRRRRRRR, matey!   Jamie used the black tulle to create a little black tutu for a cat costume.  She used black “boa” material from the craft store to attach a tail to the back and little cuffs on [Read More…]

Creamy Caramel Apple Dip

One of my favorite Autumn treats are the fresh apples.  And nothing goes better with apples than caramel.  Add some cream cheese and I am one happy girl.  I got this yummy recipe from my husband’s family and it has become a staple in our house.  I love to whip it up and take it to a party, or just to a neighbor for a fun surprise. Here’s what you’ll need to make it. 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar 1/4 Cup Sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 8 oz soften cream cheese (I use the less fat kind and it seems to be even creamier)   Throw everything in a bowl and mix together until creamy.  I have seen some people even throw in crushed up toffee candy bars for a fun crunch. Serve with some yummy apples and you are all set! Enjoy!!! I’m guest posting today on Modern Mom’s Crafternoon.  Come see what spooky treat I whipped up over there!   [Read More…]

Swap a Smile–Charity Auction

600 wide banner

We as women and mothers delight in the joy of raising our families despite some of the frustrations and effort it takes.  We delight in hearing and seeing our children grow and learn, and we strive to put their needs before our own.  Their heartaches are OUR heartaches and their joy is OUR joy.  So imagine if you had a child who was beautiful and happy in everyway…but who did not have a beautiful outer physical smile to match the beauty of their inner smile? Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft — often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places these children are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can’t afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life.  Whereas, most of us are blessed to be living in Nations and countries where we have access to basic services and healthcare for our families which [Read More…]

Celebration Cinch Book

I have had some fun lately with my Cinch with good reason.  My aunt just celebrated her 10 year sobriety birthday which is a huge accomplishment.  After talking to one of my sisters I decided to do something special for her to help her celebrate.  I emailed all our family and her friends and asked them to write her a letter.  It was so amazing to read through the letters and see how she has changed others lives. I took an old cereal box and cut two 7×7 pieces out, Mod Podged some scrapbook paper on the cardboard, and then added the establishments like ribbon, and quotes with some inked edges.  (You can see a great step-by-step from Jamie on making a Cinch book here.) I put all the letters I received into a Word doc. and made my page format fit the 7×7 size so I would only have to worry about cutting the paper along the bottom.  (Not just a hat [Read More…]

I’m so excited to FINALLY be sharing a project with the Crafting Chicks readers.  Truth be told…I was once or twice or maybe seven times invited to be a “Crafting Chick” (Long before they became “THE” Crafting chicks).   Out of pure laziness I never made a single post.  I just couldn’t find the motivation to actually write about any of my projects once they were finished.     I also never think to take pictures along the way, so this project took a serious conscious effort! Peachy Keen Dessert

Peachy Keen Ingredients

Today I am sharing one of my husbands favorite desserts.  He begs for this dessert any time he sees peaches.  In fact the name for this dessert in my Grandma’s cookbook is actually Peach Ice Box Dessert, but my hubby renamed it Peachy Keen Dessert so that’s what I’ll call it here.  It is super easy to make so here goes. You will need: 6-8 large peaches, peeled and chopped 1 can of sweetened condensed milk 1 carton of Cool Whip 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice (I cheated and used the concentrate instead) 2 ready pie graham crusts   First off mix your sweetened condensed milk, Cool Whip, and lemon juice together. Once you get that mixed well, add your peaches. Then pour your mixture into your pie shells.  You could also use mini pie shells to make personal serving portions.  Or make your own graham cracker crust and pour all of this into a 9×13 pan. Summer Tent

Summer tent

I saw this idea in the Pottery Barn Kids catalog and thought, “I’m sure I could do that and my girls would LOVE it!”  Seems like ever since summer started they have been dragging blankets and pillows outside to relax and play on.  This tent would be the perfect place for them to hang out and have a special spot (without roasting in the hot summer sun. Now I probably could have taken a few months to figure out the measurements and all, but lucky for me I knew right where to look for the instructions…Ana White.  These plans were written by Anna of Lawrence Girls (which is another really fun site).  I was amazed at the simplicity of this tent and since the plans are right there for all of you, I will skip the tutorial and just show you what I did. We Love You Because… Father’s Day Message Plaque

Hooray!  Brooke and I are going to be on Fresh Living again today at 1pm MDT.  You can check us out there to see this project in action and all the other cute things we have worked up for Father’s Day!  Now, on to the post. Some of my best ideas come when I am trying to go to sleep at night.  (Isn’t that the worst?)  This was one of those ideas and I was so giddy and excited to make it that I almost couldn’t wait till nap-time.  There is painting involved in this project so I did have to wait, otherwise I was gonna have a mess on my hands. I was thinking that it would be cute for my girl’s to have a place to write their daddy a little something they love about him each day.  This plaque was the perfect solution.  It has dry erase vinyl on it so each day we can tell daddy what we love and then [Read More…]

How to Make Slime!::Kids Craft

Most of my time has been taken up by this sweet face! Isn’t she sweet?!?   I figured it was about time that my older girls get some time with mommy.  I wanted to make some play-dough but decided to make this slime when I found the recipe in my grandma’s cookbook.  I’ll share it with a warning: this is really, REALLY messy stuff, but my girl’s loved it and had a blast.  I would suggest aprons and an outdoor location or at least cover your area in plastic in playing.   Okay so to make the slime you need: 1/2 cup of cornstarch 2 cups of water food coloring Mix the cornstarch and water in a sauce pan and bring to a boil stirring constantly. Once it looks smooth and has thickened move it off the burner and let cool to room temp. Once it is cool spoon out for the kiddos to play with.  Sit back and feel like a rockstar [Read More…]

Rhinestone T-Shirts

Silhouette supplies

I have a confession.  My Silhouette and I had a fight a little while back.  It all started when some vinyl wouldn’t cut properly, which I have to admit was mostly my fault.  I had to take a step back and evaluate our relationship. I am happy to say that we have reconciled recently and it is all because of the fun rhinestone kit I got.  Oh, I had so much fun with this kit and I know you will too.  The fact that my house is filled with little girls helps in the love of all things shiny and blingy. When my girls saw the rhinestones they were begging to have me make them something.  I luckily had some of these fabulous shirts for them from Andee Lew (LOVE THESE SHIRTS!!).  We picked out some colors, cut out the cute flowers with my Silhouette, then ironed the rhinestones on.  It was so fun and came together pretty quick.  My girls put [Read More…]

How to:: Getting Started on Freezer Meals and Giveaway!

FreezerMeal books

*Giveaway Closed* One of the most requested downloads we have has been my freezer meal recipes.  Seems like many of us are in the same boat–busy mom’s rushing to get a healthy home-cooked meal on the table.  (That’s if we can figure out what to cook.)  I have to admit, when my freezer is stocked with freezer meals my weekly dinner planning seems to work so much better.  It is so nice to have the flexibility and ease of throwing one of these babies in the oven. In my freezer meal searching I came across this company that has a fabulous system to get you started on freezer meals.  It is 30 Meals in One Day. After my sister purchased the program, I was interested.  I contacted the company to find out more and they sent me the whole program to try and share with you. I got together with my friend, Kristin, to try this out so I would have [Read More…]

Easter Egg Place Mats With Felt

supplies for egg placemat

Well Easter is just around the corner.  I was needing  something to bring a little fun and color to my Easter table.  I decided I could make some Easter Egg Place mats out of felt.  They were so easy and I actually had all the supplies on hand so it didn’t cost me anything, but I think the cost would be minimal if you had to buy the supplies. Let’s get started. You’ll need: large felt squares (for a fun variety of colors go visit Wool Felt Central) glue gun or craft glue (the kids can make these if you use the craft glue) ribbon   I started out by cutting my felt into an oval egg shape.  You could leave the felt in a square if you wanted and make some cute place mats that way. Then pull out your ribbon and run it across your felt.  I liked to move it around and see how I liked it [Read More…]

{My Spring Celebration Announcement} What’s Yours?

Ah Springtime!  I just love it.  Time for rebirth, sunshine, and celebrations.  The celebration for our little family, has been welcoming a new sweet baby girl back in March.  I am sure enjoying that new bundle and learning how to juggle her along with her sisters. The juggling is one of the reasons I am so excited about this post.  See, I have been planning on making birth announcements in Photoshop like I did for my other girls, but I have just not found the time to sit down and do it.  Shutterfly has come to my rescue.  They have so many darling birth announcements and all I have to do is add the beautiful babe’s picture and I am all set.  A new mom’s dream–to have something cute and chic, yet have enough time to catch a nap. This is the one I think I’m gonna get. Or maybe this one… It’s so hard to decide.  Oh I can’t [Read More…]

I am one of eleven Divas from The Dating Divas – a group of gals who love our husbands but found that once we were married it takes some work to keep romance alive. We share a new, inexpensive date idea each week along with marriage tips, quick and easy romance ideas, craft tutorials, and much more to improve relationships. Spring Cleaning:: Motivation Tips

spring flowers

It’s that time of year.  Spring cleaning is in the air.  Are you ready?  I thought I could help out with sharing some  tricks and tips and ways that I motivate myself and ways that I have gotten my kiddos involved.  Now I’m no pro, but these things have helped me so hopefully they will help you too. One of the first things I do before I start cleaning is make a plan in my head.  Nothing huge but it helps me not walk around aimlessly.  You probably do this without thinking about it. How much time do I have? Where do I want to start? What can the girls help me do? Once I have these questions answered I can start. My next step is to light a candle.  For some reason I clean better with a candle going.  I guess getting my house to smell good motivates me. I also like to open all my blinds to make sure I have [Read More…]

New Daddy Gift Basket

New daddy basket treats

I came up with this idea right before giving birth to my third baby girl. That pregnancy has been a little more difficult since I had to chase after my two older girls and have not had as much time to myself for the rest that is needed.  I am sure that I have focused tons on my needs and demanded more from my sweet husband.  He has been great going above and beyond in order for me to get that extra rest I’ve needed. Since birth and pregnancy are mostly about the mom and new baby, I was thinking that he needed a special treat.  I decided to make him a fun little goodie basket to take to the hospital.  I’m sure the guy in your life would love it too . Here’s what you will need: His favorite treats A basket big enough for all your treats Fun little labels to write love/thank you notes on (I used the Artisan Labels [Read More…]

Minky Taggie Blanket

finshed blanket2

One of my cute friends gave me a blankie like this after I had my second baby girl.  My little E loves it still.  I thought it would be a fun thing to make for my new little niece, and it just so happens that when you make one, you will end up having enough supplies to make around 3.   Here’s what you need: Minky fabric (I made each of my blankies16″ x 16″ and used a solid pink on one side and a cute strip on the other side.  I have seen smaller and slightly larger blankies.) Ribbons (I got a yard of 6 different ribbons for 3 blankies) cutting board and scissors or rotary cutter sewing machine thread straight pins   To begin, I cut my fabric into the size I wanted, the 16″x16″. Next cut your ribbon to 6″ so that when they loop they are big enough for a baby to hold onto. Take the [Read More…]

Florist Top

This giveaway is now closed. I’ll just come out and say it.  The Crafting Chicks LOVE clothes.  Yes, we love to look all cute and put together, but as mommies sometimes that is a bit difficult.  When we got invited to do our TV Spots (one for KUTV’s Fresh Living and one for KSL’s Studio 5), we knew where we needed to go.  We contacted our friends at DownEast Basics and they dressed our ladies like divas!  Didn’t they look amazing?!?!  Here are some of my favorites from this new line: Florist Top The Sweetheart Top (which Jen wore in Licorice) and City Girl Dress (which I would own if I weren’t 8 months pregnant!)  Now’s your chance.  We had to make sure that you all got in on the action.  We are giving one item from DownEast Basics New Arrivals line to one lucky winner.  All you have to do is go to DownEast’s New Arrivals and come back and leave a comment [Read More…]

12 Days of Christmas Ideas

deck the halls banner sm

One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season is the 12 Days of Christmas.  For as long as I can remember, my mom has been making up fun little packages of 12 Days gifts for widows or widowers.  She would drive up to 40 miles to deliver these packages, most the time not even knowing the person who was recieiving them, just finding out that they needed Christmas cheer. We have kind of done this on and off for a few years, but decided to pick this up last year as a family and delivered one bag full of fun gifts to a single lady who doesn’t have family near.  It was so exciting to drop the bag off and run and just know that she was going to have a fun surprise awaiting her each night til Christmas.  This year we are going to deliever to her again and two other elderly couples in our neighborhood.  [Read More…]
