DIY Floral Crowns
Hi there Crafting Chicks followers! This is Ali from Dream Crafter back again to share another artsy fartsy idea. 🙂 I’m sure you have seen these DIY floral crowns floating around Pinterest and I can’t get enough of them! (Sigh…if only I had girl.) But I do love them for adults too. Not only are these floral crowns really cute, they are also REALLY easy to make (my favorite aspect of any craft.)
Here’s what you’ll need to make these festive little beauties:
1. A whole bunch of fake flowers. (I would suggest getting some quality ones like at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.) I had an entire box full of fake flowers in my grandma’s basement just waiting to be used. Score!
2. Fabric Scissors 3. Neutral colored felt 4. Floral wire 5. Needle nose pliers 6. Wire cutters 7. Regular craft scissors 8. Hot glue gun and glue 9. Headbands or something stiff you can make a crown with. (Like thick cording or anything that has some bend to it).
The first crown I made was this one:
I actually started with a stretchy headband (and I have to say…it was a pain in the neck) but I’m glad it can fit a baby up to a five year old. Then I just got my floral wire and wrapped it through the flowers and around the head band. Then on the backside I covered the wire with some felt (using my hot glue) so that it wouldn’t snag in some little gals long luscious locks. I love how this one turned out but I wish I had done more flowers around the sides.
Just in case you were wondering, I DID try these on my toddler boys (which they were not too happy about) just to see if they would fit and how they would look. And they looked amazing (for being on a boy) if I do say so myself. 😉
The second one I made I wanted to do more of a crown so I went all the way around the headband this time with some neutral colored daisies.
I also loved this one, and it looks even cuter on. The only downside to this one is that because I hot glued the felt all the way around the inside, the headband doesn’t stretch as well and so it only fits a baby to a 2 year old. (My 3 year olds giant head was not very accommodating to this dainty piece.) Seriously, his head is huge. Its like an orange on a toothpick.
And lastly I decided to try using something else besides my stretchy headbands. I started by fashioning a fitted crown from my floral wire by tying a loop at one end and then braiding three pieces together. Then I just laced small flowers in between the spaces. Turns out, I like this one the best. And it took me the least amount of time…go figure.
In the end, I think they all turned out pretty great (for me not having ANY experience making girly things) and I can’t wait to give them away as gifts. I have been thinking about making me one like this third one (but larger…obviously) for all of those summer solstice parties I go to. (That was a joke…I have never been to one but it looks like fun.)
I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and now you can start making your own floral crowns! Ready, Set, Go! Don’t forget to check out all the other fun shenanigans I have been up to over at Dream Crafter!
