Happy Summer! This Summer has really flown by like none other. I just got back from Girl’s Camp and that preoccupied my brain for the last little bit. I’m excited to share with you today, one of my favorite family traditions…Grandma’s Luncheon. On the same Tuesday every month, my girl cousins and our moms gather together at Grandma’s house or the park and have a luncheon. This has been going on for about 8 years now. We started it because all the girl cousins wanted OUR kids to able to spend more time with grandma TUTU, which means “Grandma” in Hawaiian.
Grandma and Grandpa TUTU have 61 great-grandchildren AND THEY ALL LIVE IN UTAH. She always tell all her friends about our luncheons and they are always wishing all THEIR great-grandkids lived close by….oh the things you brag about when you are 91.
Here are only a handful of the “GREATS”. When we meet at the park, we meet at 11:30am at a park by Grandma’s house and stay for a couple of hours.
When we meet Grandma’s house, she makes a HUGE pot of her specialty soup and we bring the rest. We never coordinate what we are bringing and it always adds up to a lovely meal. These boys are the biggest nerds, love ’em.
Grandma makes a mean batch of Tortellini Soup, Squash Soup, and Clam Chowder. Even the kids gobble up every last bite….much better than the Happy Meals they ate on this day. My seven year-old said to me recently, “mom, McDonalds lies because they say, ‘Joy is a gift, this is the box it comes in,’ and mom THINGS don’t make you happy.” With muscles like that, I wouldn’t mess around with that 7 year-old.
DEAR MCDONALDS, YOUR MARKETING PLAN HAS BEEN FOILED. I have taught him one good thing.
WAHOO! I’m the biggest nerd you will ever meet, seriously.
Jump for joy, we love grandma’s soup! Ha ha, back to basics, they always have a great time.
The cousins LOVE being together. This is when they were doing some sort of show for us, for Cousin Brooke and I.
And these princesses too were putting a show together.
Grandma TuTu (my mom’s mom) is wonderful. She always wanted her family to be close and she has always been good at getting us all together.
She is 91, I think ;).
Be careful not to break her!
She still remembers everyone’s birthdays and sends them each a card, as well as all her grandkids & spouses and kids and spouses.
This was my favorite…the girls were having fun looking at grandma’s hands. Those hands have done so much in their day, they SHOULD be marveled at.
“Grandma is that where you get married,” says her two great-grandaughters three and under.
LOVES.
What a wonderful woman. I’m so glad we get to spend time with Grandma every month in such a fun way.
Here are just a FEW of us….I love this family tradition more than anything. I love our family because we don’t fight and there is so much love to go around. Family traditions build family ownership. I am always looking to make sure we are carrying out family traditions. This is one of my very favorites. I hope Grandma is around for another 10-20 years so we can soak up every bit of her, she’s amazing…a woman the world should model themselves after…A-list. Love you grams! xoxo, Kirsten
I LOVE how Mason is kissing his arm in the picture of the boys. He is such a stud.
what an amazing family tradition! how neat that the great grand-kids get to know your grandmother
I adore the shots with the wee ones looking at her hands/ring… so beautiful!
beautiful captures! The joy in her face radiates.
What a beautiful post.
what a great post. i know this sounds silly—but it really makes me wish there was a “real housewives of utah” so the world can see how beautiful motherhood and families can be.
