Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Homemade Cranberry Sauce
This Homemade Cranberry Sauce is easy to make with just a few ingredients and one pot! With a quick recipe like this one, make sure it ends up on your holiday table this year instead of the canned preserves.
Today I am sharing a super simple recipe for Homemade Cranberry Sauce. This recipe tastes so amazing and is a must have side dish this holiday season. It is made with a few wholesome ingredients that turn up the flavor on traditional canned cranberry sauce. It goes great with turkey, rolls, mashed potatoes, or by itself.
Growing up as a kid the only kind of cranberries that made an appearance on our holiday table were out of a can. I never ate it probably because it didn’t taste good and it wasn’t real food. Whole cranberries are very easy to find in local grocery stores these days. They are usually located in the produce section and are available all season long. Also, you can buy a bag of cranberries and always freeze them until you need to use them. I bought two bags this year, one to make this homemade cranberry sauce and the other bag is for a future smoothie recipe.
Other than the cranberries, you probably already have the rest of the ingredients at home. For my homemade cranberry sauce I used: 1 – 12 oz bag of fresh cranberries, 1/2 cup of water, 1 cup honey, 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice and the zest from one orange, 1/2 tablespoon of ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Other than those super simple and fresh ingredients, you just need one pot. How awesome this that?! In a large pot, over medium heat, combine all the ingredients. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to medium low, stir occasionally and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated. Transfer to a separate bowl and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight. This is a fantastic recipe to make the night before, saving you time. This homemade cranberry sauce should make appropriately 2 1/2 cups.
This homemade cranberry sauce is served best cold and paired with your favorite holiday foods like turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing and broccoli cheese rice casserole.
