Who doesn’t want a magazine-worthy bedroom? I’m so excited to share this post. There are definitely elements that create a finished look and I’m excited to share these tips and tricks. We have been in our house for about 7 years and we haven’t done much with our Master Bedroom. I once heard that when you move, you should ALWAYS set up the master bedroom first, since the relationship of the parents is the center of the family. I thought this was interesting since I usually think of this backwards and want to take care of everyone else first. Well, I was so excited to use some of the Pottery Barn items since they are CLASSIC and WELL-MADE. I love that I can DIY around the CLASSIC Pottery Barn pieces and mix handmade and thrift finds with them.

ELEMENTS OF A MAGAZINE-WORTHY MASTER BEDROOM:
ELEMENT 1: BED. The bed is the centerpiece of your room. It’s important to choose a bed that is the right size for your space as well as the right style that you are going for. If your bed isn’t exactly how you want it, but is the right size, it can be spruced up with paint or fabric fairly easily. If you are purchasing a bed for the first time, make sure you are getting a classic and sturdy piece that will endure the coming and going trends.
ELEMENT 2: RUG . I’ve never had a rug in my room until now. There is definitely something to be said about a rug under a bed. Make sure your rug stays within the border that the nightstand creates and well as extends beyond the headboard. The rug really gives that finished magazine/showroom look as well as anchors the bed in place. Rugs also add pattern and coziness to a space. If you want a ticker high quality rug, plan to pay more. You really get what you pay for in the rug department. (Shown-Pottery Barn Scroll Tile Rug)
ELEMENT 3: BEDDING (Shown-Ruched Voile Duvet Cover & Sham-Grey). People love the clean and fresh look of white in a home. It just feels good. It’s also the same when you have white bedding as the base of your bedding. It’s hard not to feel refreshed when you have clean white bedding on your bed, isn’t that the feeling we are going for in our bedrooms? I know I am. I prefer a white duvet cover that’s over 600 thread count. When it comes to sheets and duvet covers, at least 2 sets are recommended so one set can be in use and one being laundered. I also love the look of a duvet or coverlet folded at the end of the bed for balance. Here are some of the items I used. I love this item because it has so much visual texture and personality. I can’t get enough gray these days either, it’s the cuter younger brother to white. A well-made duvet cover can be AMAZING!! I love the texture of this particular gray one. ELEMENT 4: BEDSIDE LIGHTING . What kind of lamp do you want at your bedside? Table lamp? Sconces? Think of how the lights in your room will be used. If you don’t want to take up space on your nightstand, use the sconce above the nightstand, and if you want the look of having a design element right on your nightstand, go for the Table Lamp. I love this lamp because, as mentioned before, I LOVE visual texture. This lamp has a very clean look with a bit of texture. This lamp, also is classy and versatile. (Shown-Pottery Barn Pierce Bedside Lamp)
ELEMENT 5: MEANING. Since a master bedroom is vital to the family unit, it’s important to have elements of meaning in the room. If you are married, include photos that are special to you and your spouse, let the focus be on your marriage. Also add elements that mean a lot to you as a couple that also match your color scheme. If pictures don’t match, change them to black and white and create a timeless and classic look that will go with any style. In my design I added maps since we love to travel to new places and be adventurous. I added an old camera since I am a photographer and memory capturer. I added seashells and beach sand since we are both dream of being at the beach pretty much all year. I love this little clock because it is classic and reads vintage or modern. (Shown-Pottery Barn Pocket Watch Clock, vintage camera from my own collection, pewter camera from Home Goods)
ELEMENT 5: SMALL POPS OF COLOR. I love the trends right now with color. I love that the colors being used today are bold. I chose to mix a lot of white, with gray and then small pops of turquoise/blue. My favorite part about the generic colors as the base of the design (in my case white and gray), pops of color can be changed out easily. If I change and small handful of items in my room, I can have a whole different look. LOVE IT. (Shown-ikat and silver pillow from Home Goods, all other pillows from Pottery Barn)
ELEMENT 7: WINDOW COVERINGS. Window coverings make a HUGE different. Window coverings soften up a room and add pattern and color for a finished look.
I LOVE the new look in my bedroom and the new accessories that I have. It’s the little things that make it fun to go to bed and wake up refreshed in the morning.

I love this! Can I ask where the rug is from? I’ve been looking for one for my master and absolutely love this one!

This is beautiful, but the idea of white bedding in my bedroom is highly impractical. We have four kids who love to pile into our bed with us (especially on weekend mornings….this would stay white for maybe two weeks tops!

It looks great! Did you just put a plain comforter on the bed and use the duvet cover at the foot of the bed?

Hi there,
I absolutely love this room you designed and was wondering who made the pillow from Home Goods with the turquoise and silver? I have been looking all over the internet for one lol. Is it Marlo Lorenz? If not can you please let me know who? Thank you so much.:)
