Thankful Tree with Silver Leaves

sm thanful tree

This year…our family made a thankful tree.  I love how is is displayed on our mantle and can’t wait to show you how we made it! Using my Cricut Explore, I cut these tiny intricate silver metallic leaves. Aren’t they adorable!  I watched in amazement!  That machine is brilliant! Using a thin point permanent marker…each family member wrote what they were grateful for on 5 leaves.  I loved hearing what each of us were grateful for.  Love how this time of year helps us remember that.  We displayed it on our mantle this month as a reminder to continue on with gratitude…”in all things” You can download my free tree printable below…and add thankful leaves!  This was such a fun family activity! Easy & Simple Scripture Bag or Mini Tote

sm bag 1

We made these mini totes/Scripture bags for our Activity Day girls at church.  The girls loved making these bags.  Simple, easy, & cute! I found the mini totes at Hobby Lobby.  I used my Cricut Explore to cut out each girls name using the sparkly silver Cricut iron on vinyl.  (I love the iron on vinyl!) After cutting out the names…I first ironed the bag (to make it hot) and then placed the name on the bag.  I ironed over the name and peeled off the plastic.   Such a fun way to personalize the bags. We made Fabric Ruffle Flowers and added them to the bags with hot glue!  So easy! My girls love these totes! Pin It

Easy Ruffle Fabric Flowers

sm fabric flowers 2

These fabric flowers are so fun and easy to make. I have used them on my mini Bakeshop Aprons and many other things. My 7 year old can make them and she loves it.  Here are the quick and easy steps! What You’ll Need to make the Fabric Flowers: Material (12 in x 3 in strip) These fabrics are from Riley Blake Designs (Love the happy colors!) You can cut your fabric longer for more ruffles:), Thread & needle, and something for the center, (jewels or buttons) Step 1: Cut a 12 x 3 in strip from your fabric.  Iron the strip folded in half the long way.  Fold right sides up. Step 2: Thread your needle.  Double knot at the bottom.  Then sew a straight running stitch (not on the folded side)  along the strip…You can begin to pull and ruffle as you go.  Don’t pull too hard or it will break your thread.  Just pull slowly. Step 4: Keep [Read More…]

Spring Windsock Kid Craft

sm windsock header

I have 2 little ones at home during the day and we love to have a “crafternoon” at least once a week.  I love to just sit with my kids and let them get crafty.  I love watching their little hands work.  They make funny faces when they concentrate hard on their coloring…and I love it. This week we made spring windsocks.  We used the amazing Painters Markers from Elmers, spring colored tissue paper, and Elmer’s Craft Bond spray adhesive for this project. Using an 8.5 x 11 piece of white cardstock, we created a pattern using the Painters Markers.  They loved drawing zigzags and polka-dots.  These markers are amazing…you can paint on pretty much anything!  They are permanent so pull out those paint smocks! After the paint dries, we used the Craft Bond spray to attach streamers of tissue paper to the back of the picture.  Staple the windsock into a cylinder and add a handle at the top [Read More…]

Brace yourself for some amazing free printables from these two Supermoms at Paging Supermom.  We love them!  Thanks Aimee & Bettijo! Hello! It’s Aimée and Bettijo here from PagingSupermom.com. We are always on the search for simple, quiet activities to keep little hands busy, and these colorful lacing eggs fit the bill quite nicely. When we were kids we both had wooden lacing toys that were various shapes. Bettijo really only remembers the pony one because it was her favorite, and as a kids we just thought these toys were a lot of fun.  As Moms now we can appreciate that lacing toys encourage little ones to exercise fine motor skills and they are a great way to practice patterns. Welcome Mariel!  We love Mariel and all of her amazing ideas!  She is one amazing mama and blogger!   Hello, lovely Crafting Chicks readers! I’m so thankful to my blog buddies for letting me share over here today. I was trying to think of something springy (or is it spring-ish?), yet easy. If you’re anything like me, spring time means busy time, and I only want to hear about EASY. So, I thought… picnics… spring… 5 minute meal… spring… happy kids… spring… oh, our favorite picnic sandwich! I’ve got two grocery stores right by my house… a Fresh Market and a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market. I think we all have the list of things we buy at one store and not the other. For example, most of my produce I get at Fresh Market, although it’s not anything too special. I LOVE the produce at Harmon’s… but, it’s a drive. Gingerbread Houses {A Christmas Tradition} & Free Printables

  A favorite family Christmas tradition of ours is to make Gingerbread houses.  My kids look forward to this every year…and we’ve made great memories!  Below I am sharing pictures of some past gingerbread houses as well as tips on how to make your gingerbread house making experience great!  (we’ve learned what works best!) Tip 1:  You can choose a boxed house but before the kids begin to decorate it, it’s a good idea to put it together beforehand so it can set before you add your goodies. I LOVE individual mini houses with graham crackers.  AND my secret….HOT glue them together before.  Ha!  It works like a charm and prevents frustration.  Kids love decorating the best, so if the houses are ready, and sturdy, it’s much more of a success.  Plus…they don’t really eat it right, except maybe picking candy off:) Tip 2:  I love having each house on a plate (a festive one) and HOT glue the house [Read More…]

Supplies you need: -Snowflake ornaments (I found mine at Taipan Trading) -Pretty Ribbon -Metal Juice tops (or you can use wooden circles-similar to my snowflake ornaments) -Hot glue gun and glue -Printed monogram  (I made mine in photoshop)  I just used the type tool and fancy fonts to make mine…super simple  (you can even use word) Cut out your Monogram circle and glue it in the juice can lid.  I also modpodged over my Monogram to seal it.  Hot glue on your snowflake ornament and that’s it! They are so easy to hang or tie on your stocking.  Add a festive ribbon and you are set! Pin It

Snowflake Photo Ornaments

  This is one of my very favorite traditions.  Each year I make homemade photo ornaments with pictures of my children and family.  I also add little snippets on the back of what each child is up to…and on the family one, our years’ hightlights.  This year I made snowflake photo ornaments.  I love them.  Simple sweet & silver.  I love how they look on my tree. My children love to read the past years’ ornaments.  Supplies you need: -Snowflake Ornaments – 2.75 inch wooden circles (I found mine at Michaels) -Glue gun and sticks -Photos and wording printed (I printed mine at Costco) -Beaded ribbon or string -Modpodge (I used matte) Steps to make these Snowflake Photo Ornaments: 1.  Print photos and journaling circle (cut out in circle shape, I used the wooden circle as my pattern. 2.  Use modpodge to attach the photo to the wooden circle.  I used a thin layer of mod podge on the top [Read More…]

Twine Monogram & Burlap Wreaths (Porch Decor)

  I’m excited to share my Twine Monogram & Burlap Wreaths I made for my porch a few months ago.  I designed this for our fall  Command™ Brand project. Supplies: Scissors Thick twine Burlap ribbon (plain or patterned) Styrofoam wreath forms Ribbon Straight pins Fabric Hot glue Tacky glue Large Paper mache Monogram Command™ Brand Hooks and Strips (I used clear outdoor and a Metal on for my Door) Step 1:  Wrap you Monogram letter with thick twine.  I just went around and around the letter using hot glue.  Pressing the twine strips together as you go…be patient.  This takes some time…but comes together great! Corners of the letters are tricky.  I cut strips a few inches long to glue down on the corners and around the sides. Next:  Wrap your styrofoam wreath with the burlap ribbon…this is quick and makes up for all the hard twin work on the monogram! Now for some fun and color…take material of your choice (I used blue, [Read More…]

Cinnabon Copy Cat Cinnamon Rolls from Somewhat Simple {Christmas Tradition Series}

Hi guys! I am Stephanie from Somewhat Simple and I am excited to be here today. When I was a kid, we lived right around the corner from my grandma, so every Christmas morning we would open our presents at home, then head to grandma’s house! We’d spend the day playing with our cousins and eating delicious homemade cinnamon rolls! My grandma always made enough to feed an army, so I have fond memories of eating her cinnamon rolls pretty much all day long. We’d eat one, play for a bit, eat some more and then play again! (Oh to be young again!) We’ve carried on this tradition of Christmas morning cinnamon rolls with my own family- it is definitely one of our favorite traditions. I love baking them on Christmas Eve with my kids… and indulging on 1 or 2 before bed is always a bonus! I found a recipe for Cinnabon Copycat Cinnamon Rolls that I’ve now made [Read More…]

I’m Lisa from Over the Big Moon and I am so excited to be part of this series! Christmas is a huge deal in our house! My Mom loved Christmas more than anyone I know and even though she has passed away the traditions she established continue to bind us together. The tradition I am sharing today started 3 years ago. I was in the midst of buying presents for my 3 boys and started feeling strongly that I was just buying “stuff.” I longed to give my kids something more meaningful that would last beyond the current stage they were in.  I wanted to give them self esteem and self confidence. December 6th is the feast day of the saint, St. Nicholas. My ancestors are of Scandinavian descent so every Christmas when I was growing up, we had a fun tradition that none of my friends celebrated. On the night of December 5th we shined our best Sunday shoes and put them by the front door with our Christmas list tucked inside. When we woke up the next morning St. Nicholas had taken our Christmas list and left us a few treats and surprises in our shoes. My kids love this as well and remind me about it every year.   Hello!  Hope your summer is in full swing!  WE are just beginning to enjoy our summer! I have felt like we needed more structure this summer…at least during our mornings.  I made these simple job charts for my kiddos to hang in their mud room cubbies.   I am hoping that it will help our “summer days” be a little less lazy and more positive! My kids love going on special dad and mom dates!  I thought for these charts, they could earn points for each job/task they do and redeem them for minutes with mom or dad!  They are excited and a little competitive to see who can earn the most points:) You can download my charts below!  Just add your child’s name and tasks/jobs you want them to do.  I added a Mom’s Choice, Dad’s Choice, & Child’s Choice on the bottom 3 lines.  It’s great to give your child an option to choose a job they [Read More…]

  I am always trying to find new “positive” ways to encourage my 3 year olds to “be good.” This is one thing that has worked for my 2- three year olds. (boy/girl twins).  I often find that some things are a battle…getting dressed, putting shoes on, picking up toys, etc. Toddlers are the cutest.  I love my little ones’ age right now…not only do they say the cutest things…but they are so stinkin’ adorable…most of the time, but boy can they give me a run for it. I try and remember that each day they are learning, and patience on my part is important, even though it is a challenge. When taking child development & psychology courses in college, one thing I learned has stuck with me when raising toddlers…Discipline stops behavior, but Positive Reinforcement changes behavior.  I try to remember this when I’m helping my twins learn and grow.  If I use positive ways to help them learn…it will last. I followed the directions on the back of the printable sticker paper pack (I love that it has the directions right there).  I found a circle shape I liked in their online store.  I decided I liked the font printed and not cut out.  I had the machine just cut out the circles.  It amazes me how the Silhouette machine can read the “registration marks.”   Once I printed it, the circles were ready to cut out!  I then fed it through my Silhouette and watched the cutting take place!! It was so much easier sticking the labels on my banner penants…much easier than [Read More…]

Hello All…Hope you are all enjoying your summer! Today I want to share my new Photo Wall with you…I am loving it…it makes me happy! I have been changing some things in my house and I am loving neutral creams and whites with pops of color (blue and yellow)…but who isn’t right now.  I’ve decided that these lighter happier colors…really do make me happy. I found this 16 in. B at Poppy Seed Projects.  They have the best wooden letters…they look like Pottery Barn. I used a chevron vinyl stencil from Poppy Seed Projects to paint the Yellow Chevron stripes on the B.  I just used a sponge brush and acrylic paints from Deco Art. I could not wait to use this Pink Princess CookBook with my two little princesses.  My little girl earned a SPECIAL night and so we whipped out this cookbook and made a couple of the Princess treats for our tea party.  There were a lot of ideas to choose from and my little girl spent about 20 minutes just looking through the book, deciding which treats were her favorite.   For this tea party we made the “raspberry tea sandwiches” but used blueberries instead, and star shine strawberry muffins…but swapped out the strawberries for blueberries….and then of course…I let her decorate the sandwiches and muffins! The Pink Princess cookbook had such fun ideas, easy to make and fun to adapt to what you have in your home.  We will definitely be doing this again…and trying out some other treats in the book…We can wait to try the Pink Princess Pudding, Magic Princess Wands, and Enchanted Unicorn Horns.  If you are throwing a Princess [Read More…]

We shared these little gems on Monday’s Fresh Living. These DIY treat stands are so cheap & EASY to make, but look beautiful & expensive when finished. You could use plastic or resin plates for a more casual look or go fancy with some pretty ceramic or china ones! These would be perfect for any party or just to have on your kitchen table or island. Here’s what you need: Plates and bowls of your choice (a big one for the bottom, smaller one for the center and a bowl for the top) or you really could mix it up.) Candlestick holders (I used a larger and smaller one) Strong Glue like E-6000 or Gorilla Glue Then you just glue the plates and candlesticks together!  I applied a pretty thick layer of E-6000 around the rim of the candlesticks and just placed them on my plates.  I kind of just eye-balled it but you could get more exact and try [Read More…]

Since leprechauns are so tricky and sneaky how fun would it be for your kids to wake up to little green footprints.  You could also rearrange things, die the milk green, or use bistro markers to draw mustaches on family photos-silly things.  These all would make my little ones laugh! To make the little green foot prints, here are the steps: 1.  Get some green paint ready on a paper plate. 2.  Make a fist and with the outside of your fist, dip it in the paint (do you see the little foot?) 3.  Stamp your fist on the white cardstock or surface. 4.  And last, to make toes, use your finger tip and create 5 dots above the foot to make 5 tiny [Read More…]

{Halloween Fun for Your Little One}

sm pumpkin game 1

It is time to get ready for all of the upcoming Halloween parties for the kids!  I have 3 fun ideas for you today! 1.  Make a Jack O Lantern Game: For this activity, you will need: Orange felt Black Felt Green felt for leaves Black squares to place your pumpkin on during the activity A camera Step one:  Cut pumpkins, leaves, face parts (eyes, mouths, & noses) out of your felt.  Just free hand it and it doesn’t have to be perfect.  Remember, felt is super easy to cut and work with.  If you need to you can draw the face parts and pumpkins on cardstock and use it as a pattern. Step two:  Take photos of your pumpkin with different faces.  I made twelve different faces to take photos of. Step three:  Print your photos, cut or crop the edges if you’d like, and mount on cardstock.  Then laminate. Step four:  Play the game with your little one.  [Read More…]

{Make me some Music! Homemade Music Makers}

music makers crafting chicks abby 1

Make Me Some Music!  I made some homemade instruments for my kids and wanted to share!  They were a big hit. First, you need to gather some cute 12×12 scrapbook paper (I have been on a zebra kick lately if you couldn’t tell:), a paper cutter, and some clear contact paper. To make these shakers, you will need to save some mini water bottles.  These little bottles were great to have around this summer whenever we were on the go.  They are the perfect size for my little ones.  Just rinse out the bottles well and then let them dry out without the lid. (But save the lids:) Steps to make the Water Bottle Shakers: Step 1:  Remove the paper label and measure it.  This will give you an idea of how wide and long to cut your paper. Step 2:  Cut paper strips the size of your label. Step 3:  Hot glue the scrapbook paper around your bottle.  Hot glue [Read More…]

{Revamped Sassy Doll Stroller-Tuesday Tip}

stroller revamp crafting chicks 1

My little Abby got this stroller just after she turned one-she is in LOVE with her baby dolls.  Of course with all of the use… walks outside and playtime, this stroller had seen better days.  SO…I decided not to throw it away and revamp it with some sassy material.  I let Abby choose the material and we went to work.  She sat by my side as I made her a new and improved doll stroller.  Here is how I did it. You will need about a 1/2 yard of some sassy material. Step 1:  Cut apart the doll stoller back and seat (save this for your pattern).  Cut of the straps and keep them.  If they are worn out, save the buckle and use some ribbon or strap material to make a new one.  (before cutting apart-think about how to sew it back together) Step 2:  Use the old material as a pattern.  I doubled up my new material to make [Read More…]

{DisneyLand Countdown & Free Template}

disneyland countdown crafting chicks 3

We are going to Disneyland next month!  My kiddos are thrilled but I think I might be just a bit more excited about the trip.  I could live in Disneyland.  I love the smells, sights, and how cute and clean everything is.  I am hoping my obsession wears off on my almost 4 year olds.  To get the family excited, I made this chart to hang up 30 days before to begin the countdown.    I made the 16×20 chart in photoshop as well as the circles to cover up the numbers.  I printed both the chart and circles at Costco. I used the adorable Oh Boy! papers-the ABC’s from the talented Crystal Wilkerson over at Jessica Sprague.  I thought that the red and white polka dot paper and all of the bright, happy colors were a perfect fit for our Disneyland countdown! I then cut out the circles and they are ready to be placed on our chart each day.  Oh…I also added Velcro to the back [Read More…]

Yes, another cupcake post!  Who doesn’t LOVE cupcakes right?!  And who wouldn’t LOVE to get this treat on your birthday?!  Brooke and I LOVED the craft class at the EVO Conference, where Provo Craft taught us how to assemble these darling cupcake surprises.  I used the same instructions that Brooke used for her 4th of July Cupcake Gifts. When I saw this Cozy Car Caddy Tutorial over at the amazing  Homemade by Jill, I knew I just had to make it!  I have a little guy who is obsessed with CARS!  He loves to point out cars on the road and even can spot different makes and models.  I thought this would be a perfect activity for church or other quiet outings, but truthfully he will play at home with it for hours.  SO…if you have a little one who loves cars, this is a must have.  He loves to park the cars in the garages.  I love how Jill added numbers to the pockets.  I have been meaning to do this.  This car cozy would also make a great gift!  I made one for my nephew who just turned 2 and he loves it!  I used some fun camouflage material and greenish-brown canvas with a felt car on the front.  Here is my little guy playing with his car cozy [Read More…]

I LOVE this yummy salad, especially in the summer and just had to share it with you!  I received this salad recipe at an exchange a few years ago and since then, I have made it many times-in fact I crave it often-especially when it is warm outside and I feel like eating a cool dish!  It is the perfect salad for a luncheon, or even dinner.  And the dressing is tasty, tasty, tasty!  The tortellini makes it even more filling and delicious! Salad Ingredients: Fresh Baby Spinach (I use one package of spinach but have doubled this for a party or luncheon) Canned Mandarin Oranges Cheese tortellini, cooked & chilled (I like the refrigerated tortellini best) Bacon, cooked, cooled & broken into pieces (About 5 slices and I like it extra crispy!) {Toss these ingredients together in a bowl} Dressing: 1/2 c. sugar                        1/4 c. red wine vinegar Combine sugar and vinegar in a pan on the stove.  Bring to a boil.  Stir [Read More…]

Every year I LOVE to scrapbook the 4th of July.  I love the Red, White and Blue!   I LOVE to get pictures of my kids sporting their 4th of July Apparel.  Looking back, it is so great to see how much they have grown and  changed each year.  I think it would be fun to compile a Family 4th of July book with pages throughout the years.  Kirsten showcased some of her amazing digital scrapbook pages some posts back.  She always inspires me!-& it is great to have a friend to share layouts and ideas with.  You must check out Kirsten’s 4th of July digital scrapbook pages.  She as well shares some of her 4th of July traditions like Crafting Chick Jen did yesterday.  It’s time to get planning!  The 4th of July is coming this weekend and I can’t wait.  The kiddos are getting so excited and looking forward to parades, fireworks, and yummy treats! {Kid Room Decor-Monogram Photo Wall}

kids decor monogram photo wall girl

I am SOOOOO excited to share this project with you.  My 3  1/2 year old twins recently moved into the same room (to make room for babies).  I needed some fun wall art for above their beds.  I needed it to coordinate, not be too girly or too boyish, and not be too expensive. I had a really fun time creating this easy to do, monogram photo wall. Here are the steps to crate your own Monogram Photo Wall: Step 1:  Gather frames, photos and letters that coordinate with your bedding, pillows and other decor. I found chipboard letters, wooden letters and metal letters.  I rounded up frames that I already had and was about to give away.  I also used Mod Podge to create a 8×10 photo canvas.  Much less expensive than ordering a wrapped photo canvas.  I wanted this to be very cute and very inexpensive because we weren’t sure how long A & B could last in the [Read More…]

{Library Bags & Tags for Summer Reading}

I made some simple library bags with card holders for my kids and wanted to share. I thought it would be great for them to have a place to store their books (so they won’t get mixed up with our books at home) and also a way to carry their books to and from the library. I followed this bag tutorial. I used it on the monogram bags as well. These were much more simple without the letters and pockets. I used canvas material to line the bags, to make them more sturdy to carry the books. I cut the material 16 inches wide and about 19 inches long. I sewed the bag with about a 1/2 seam. The straps were about 14 inches. These bags will carry most sizes of books. I also digitally scrapbooked a little tag with my kids’ names to tie around the strap. I used the same plastic name tag holders that Brooke used in [Read More…]

{Summer Fun by the Crafting Chicks}

Here are some fun summer ideas for you and your family. Happy Summer! xoxoxo the Crafting Chicks 60 Days of Summer Chart-Jamie I got this amazing idea from the fellow Crafting Chicks Kirsten & Brooke! My family made a list of fun things to do this summer. I thought it would be great to make this poster to motivate us and get us excited about summer! Most of these activities are very simple and easy to do, but the kids will think they are awesome! (You can click on the poster to enlarge and get ideas for your family) I am going to blow this up to a 16×20 at Costco and then hang it up. We will put stickers on our chart after each summer fun activity. Summer Cooking-Becky I have my 3-year-old signed up for a fun cooking class this summer. She will come away with a fun little recipe book full of things she can make. I [Read More…]

{Treasure Charts}

I am all about positive reinforcement and rewards at our house—it really helps my kiddos to behave or do things I ask—and it makes me feel good to get them excited about doing good things. I used to teach 1st grade and loved using these kind of incentives. (I even get a little excited when they earn a sticker:) After Kirsten’s Great Post about incentives, I wanted to try the treasure chest. First, I made these charts in Word. I wanted these to be cute, but I didn’t want to spend the time digiscrapping these, since we just toss them out when they are full. So I just made a simple template in Word with their name on it. (You can download the chart template below.) Next, I got a Treasure Chest looking box. (Similar ones can be found at most craft stores)-You can even decorate a box with your kids, or use a plastic tote. Anything would work. I [Read More…]

{Under the Sea-Party Theme Idea}

Since summer is just around the corner, I wanted to share my “Under the Sea” party that I planned for my kiddos last fall. The fall was not the time to throw an Under the Sea party. I couldn’t find anything to go along with this theme. But since sea rhymed with 3, I gave it a go and found this cute digi scrap kit to use and make my own party decor and invites. Here is the front of the invite. I also made thank you cards that were just like this, but said “Thank You,” on the front, to send out to their little friends after the party. My kids got a kick out of the googly eyes that we added. Here is the inside of the invite. I love invitations that include a photo of the special birthday kid! {Photo Magnets}

I made these cute photo magnets for my mom. I had saved some of these frozen juice can tops, (I know why am I saving such things) but… I did come up with a few fun ways to use these tops. Here are the steps to make the photo magnets: First, digi scrap the circle with a photo, (I used papers from the Modish Boy kit and Bella Kit at Shabby Princess)-but you could use regular scrapbook paper and a photo. Second, print and cut out the circles. I then inked the edges a bit. Third, Mod Podge the circles on the metal top. Let dry. And last, add a magnet to the back with hot glue. And… you have an adorable magnet with a picture of your little one! I also thought of other ideas: *Make one for each of your children with a photo of just them. Use this special magnet to display their artwork that they bring [Read More…]

{Felt Squares for Baby}

I made these felt squares for my babies. I’ve read that babies love black and white, bright colors and bright contrasts-as well as looking at different shapes and patterns. Even when they were just a few weeks old, I could tell they loved to look at these squares. My babies are almost 6 months now and still love to look at and hold these squares. Supplies: -Felt: black, white, and some colors -Hot glue gun -Sharp fabric scissors -Paper to make square pattern This project was so easy-It is easy to cut shapes out of felt (especially with a good pair of fabric scissors). You can even use the stiff felt for easier and more exact cutting. I wasn’t too worried about having the straightest lines, shapes, etc. And hot gluing the shapes and patterns was quick and easy. I just cut a 6×6 inch square out of a piece of card stock and then used it as a pattern [Read More…]

{Don’t Eat Pete-Family Edition}

thumb dont eat pete family

As I was cleaning off my desktop, I found this game I made for a family reunion. It is “Don’t Eat Pete” family edition with photos of cousins. I will post the directions on how to play below. The kids got a kick out of this! It would be fun to make for a Family Home Evening game-you could add photos of your family, the family pet or grandparents to fill up the nine squares. I just put at the top “don’t eat a” and then our last name. {Spring Centerpiece}

I saw this photo in the Pottery Barn catalog last year and loved it (it is in the spring catalog again this year). I made a similar one for my table. I filled the vase with rocks around the flower branches (to hold it together). For Easter, we hang sparkly and colored eggs (found at Taipan) on the branches. My kiddos loved to help hang the eggs this year. It looks great without the eggs and makes a pretty summer centerpiece as well. Now I just need those cute porcelain bunnies and a spring table runner.

{LOVE blocks}

Our house needed a little Valentine decor.  My kiddos love it when I decorate for the holidays- Here are some wood blocks I made.  I had my husband cut the blocks out of a 2×6.  Each block is a different height.  The L is 10 inches, O is 8 inches, V is 9 in., and the E is 7 inches.  First I painted each block (and sanded the sides a bit).  I used digital scrapbooking paper and letters for the word LOVE, but you could do this with any scrapbook paper and cut out letters as well.  I then modpodged on the paper-SUPER EASY and fast! I used some fun ribbon to tie around the sides and on the top-everything looks a little more cute with ribbon right?! I also added a few sparkly hearts to my chandelier to get a little more festive.  I found these at Tai Pan Trading. & I found this table runner on PotteryBarn Kids website-It [Read More…]

{Homemade Block Ornaments}

It’s Jamie-another fellow crafty chick! I haven’t had much time to craft lately-due to the arrival of my sweet twins, Hallie and Logan. But I did squeeze in some time to make these homemade block ornaments. A new tradition of ours is to make a homemade ornament every year. My kiddos were so excited to hang their ornaments on our tree. My mom made ornaments when I was little and I still remember them. I remember her sleds made out of popsicle sticks with our names on it. My sister and I loved to pull out the ones made for us each year. So here are the steps to make these: You’ll need: 1.5 inch plain wooden blocks (one for each family member-found at any craft store) mod podge scissors photos/scrapbook paper-or you can do used digital scrapbook paper in photoshop cup hooks (I used silver 7/8 in. ones) ribbon to hang the ornaments step one: cut out your squares [Read More…]

{Abby’s Kitchen}

My little girl got this kitchen last year and I had to add some fun decor to spice it up! I was inspired by the red striped and polka-dot apron that came with the kitchen. This has been one of my all time favorite projects. I made double sided placemats-very easy! & double sided chair cushions. Very easy to make. Just used the seat of the chair for my pattern and used batting in between the fabrics. Added some polka dot ribbon to tie on the chairs. And my favorite, the faux window. I just bought a canvas, painted an outdoor scene, added white grograin ribbon for the window panes and then made some drapes to go on the sides. Happy Crafting Everyone! I think my crafting will now be on hold. My little muffins are going to arrive any day now!

{Monogram Bags}

A few months ago I made these little bags for my kids. They are their quiet bags for church or any other quiet activity. They love them!! I added the letter of their first name with pellon (two sided iron on sticky fabric). I used this tutorial http://www.colorfool.net/category/tutorials/ to help with the main parts of the bag. I also added a little pocket in the front for snacks and what nots. Super easy project!

{Spooky Decor}

Love this time of year! Loved Nikkala’s spooky decor! It is especially fun for my kiddos this year to decorate and enjoy all of the fun fall activities. Here are a few things we’ve put up this year. I was about to throw out this twiggy wreath, but decided to cut it down, add some orange berries and leaves, a bow and the sparkly word “Halloween” (that I found at Walmart for $3). I figure I could take out the word and change out the bow and keep it up through November. Easy and inexpensive. Love my lantern hanging from my chandelier. I got this one at a local store, but I have seen them several places. Easy centerpiece (that won’t break!-i have 2 year olds) Our Annual “Spooky Tree.” I found this tree at Pottery Barn Kids a couple of years ago, but I love Kirsten’s idea of making your own. I found the pumpkins, spiders, and words at [Read More…]

{Quiet Books}

It’s Jamie-finally! I don’t think I’ve posted something for months! I’ve been wanting to post some of my summer craft projects for so long. I have always wanted to make my kiddos cute quiet books and although they were time consuming, they were fun to make and they absolutely love the finished products! My friend Tiffany made a really cute one as well that helped inspire me and I hope to post photos of her book soon. I got the cute cover idea from her book. I got most of my ideas for pages online. I just googled “quiet book” and found so many cute ideas that I adapted. I’ll try and give credit to those I found. These have been awesome for church! This blog is awesome: http://quietbook.blogspot.com/ I got most ideas from here-so thank you to whomever created it. {Valentine Craftiness}

{Valentine Banner} Made this banner the same way I made my HAPPY BIRTHDAY banner. Just with the words “BE MINE” and a few hearts. {Felt Heart Bags} I saw these hearts on Family Fun and thought it would be cute to make them for A & B. I made it different, but both are cute. Here are the steps for the one I made: -double up the felt to make it thicker and cut out hearts about 10 in. wide and 8 inches high. -cut out a strip 1 1/2 in by 22 in and fold over, blanket stitch or sew up the side -iron on pellon to your polka dot/striped fabric and then cut out little hearts -peel off back of pellon and iron onto your felt hearts -blanket stitch or sew around the fabric hearts and top of felt hearts -pin heart sides together with strap inside and sew or blanket stitch around edges -put a fun surprise [Read More…]

{Be Thou An Example}

My friend Kirsten and I made these for the Young Women in our ward. We will be giving these to them at New Beginnings. The theme “Be thou and Example” is on front and the scripture and reminder of 3 things to do everyday are on the back. We used 2×4’s and cut them into 4 inch squares. We let the girls paint them a color to match their room (but wanted to surprise them with the theme). I printed out the circles on photo paper, cut them out and mod podged them on the front and back. They turned out great. If you would like to download the circles for the front and back, just click on the two bottom photos. My friend Kirsten and I made these for the Young Women in our ward. handprint reindeer 2 sm

   Every mom loves to have handprints of there children because they grow way too fast!  We made these Reindeer handprint ornaments so that I could remember my little ones’ hands every Christmas!  Plus…the kids loved to help me make them and hang them on the Christmas tree. Supplies you need to make Reindeer Handprint Ornaments: -Tan and red thick cardstock -an acid free black ink pad -scissors -scallop scissors -ribbon -brown pipe cleaner -a google eye or black brad for the eye -a small red pop pop for the nose -hot glue gun -adhesive -small hole punch Steps to make the Reindeer Handprint Ornaments: 1.  Rub ink on your child’s hand.  This works better than pressing your child’s hand in the ink.  Press down firmly on the tan paper to  make the hand print mark. 2.  Cut around the hand print and then glue on the red paper to create a cute border. 3.  Cut around the tan paper with [Read More…]

{Birthday Banner}

I wanted to make a little birthday banner this month . I was going to sew one, but since that would be too tricky and time consuming, I thought I would digi scrap one. I used the cookie cutter tool in photoshop to cut out the rounded corner squares and circles. I just made one of each and used them as a template to finish the words. I printed them 5×5 and then mounted them on card stock. I used scalloped scissors to make the cute edge. I strung the letters together and added cute ribbon in between each letter. I also used the Autumn Medley kit from Shabby Princess for this project. I am thinking of making a Halloween one now. It was a fun and quick project.

{Spider Cupcakes}

I saw these spider cupcakes and just had to make them. Although mine are not professional, my kiddos loved them still the same. I must admit, the spider part was a lot of work, so I only ended up making a few spiders and then just broke out the sprinkles. My babies would walk by the cupcakes and say “pooky” (aka spooky). I also found another great cupcake site that you must check out. Here is the link: http://52cupcakes.blogspot.com/ I love how the cupcake queen takes a photo of every cupcake she makes with her cute dog. I know you will especially love this fact Jen! She is a cupcake artist as well as a friend to the animals! Love it!

{Magnet Instructions}

I just noticed that we had a few questions on how to make the “super saturday” magnets. Here are the instructions, hope this helps! 1. I used a 1 inch circle punch to cut out circles of some fun scrapbook paper. 2. I bought the glass part at Ben Franklin -big pack for around 3 dollars(you can get both large and small-I like the large best-but I guess it depends on where you are putting the magnets.) I also bought the magnet part at Ben Franklin-8 for around $3. (You could probably find this at any craft store and maybe even Walmart) 3. I used a sponge paint brush to apply mod podge to the paper side you will see through the magnet. Then I pressed it to the glass part and held it for a minute. Let it dry for a moment. 4. Hot glue the magnet to the back of the glass with paper. And that is it! [Read More…]

{100 things}

After seeing Kirsten’s chipboard creation, I had to order a couple for myself at mayaroad.com. I couldn’t wait to make something cute. Since our Anniversary is today, I made this little book of 100 things I love about Brian. It was so simple and only took a couple of hours. I can’t wait to give it to him tonight.

{Bikini Bears}

I found this awesome new site for bakers! This cute lady make the cutest cakes and cupcakes and I remember seeing her on the Martha Stewart show. Lindsay and I were thinking these would be so cute to make for a pool party/bbq treat! Or what about a summer birthday party?! Are these not so cute?! I know my kiddos would just love these! You must check out Bakerella! Follow up! Lindsay and I did make the cupcakes! They turned out adorable and were a huge hit for our summer bbq treat!!!

{Super Saturday Ideas}

I am helping plan Super Saturday this year and here are the projects we will be doing. Just wanted to share. {Sassy Aprons} Love these! I found this particular pattern at Ben Franklin Craft’s and Lindsay and I found this cute fabric at Quilter’s Haven in Bountiful! I have always wanted a sassy apron! Even a mini sassy apron for Abby! {Magnets} I had to use your photo Becky-We will be making both large and small glass magnets. {Greg Olsen/Living Christ Frames} I am not sure yet how to make these. Another lady in my ward is going to teach us. I’ll get back to you guys. The next three projects come from the creative mind of Holly: check out her website at http://www.simplycreativecrafts.blogspot.com/ This is going to make Super Saturday so much easier! They are all such cute ideas and I think by far the cutest FHE boards that I have seen.{Recipe Board} {Large Family Home Evening Board} {Small [Read More…]

{Bracket Book}

Had to share this because it turned out so cute! I made these for Mother’s Day. Kirsten’s creative cousin designs digital scrapbook stuff and you can find it here. I downloaded the template(which made it so easy). The paper I used, you can find at Shabby Princess , and I also used this freebie. They went together so well and are some of my favorite kits so far! Even if you don’t digital scrapbook, this would even be fun with regular scrapbooking. If you are a digital scrapbooker and haven’t yet tried using templates, you should give it a go. They are quick and fun!

{Mini Tins}

You can find these mini tins at Robert’s crafts for $1.99. They are so cute and small. Here are a couple of fun ideas for these mini tins. Let me know if you find other clever ways to use these! {Below}: My crafty friend Laura in WA made this cute address holder for me right before we moved. I love the colors she used. In the tin, were rectangles of cardstock with friend’s addresses and phone numbers. {Below}: I was excited when I saw these at the craft store and decided to make “mini brag tins” for my sister and mom. I made a little photo accordian album to put inside the tins. It was a hit!

{Frames & Names}

I was going through some photos (trying to clear up some disk space on my lap top) and found these and thought I would share. I made these for the nursery when I was pregnant. If you need some cute, inexpensive ideas for kids rooms, here are a couple good ideas. {For Girl Names:} At Michaels, I bought their plain wood frames (each $1) and small wood letters (also each $1) This project was around $10. I painted the letters and frames, let them dry and sanded the sides. I then glued scrapbook paper to the back and added embellishments and ribbon. This was a fun project-for a great deal! {Frames:} I found these plain frames at Michael’s (it was the only craft store I could find in Washington at the time), The middle is 8×10 and the side ones are 5×7. I’m sure they were all well under $10 each, maybe under $5-I forget. I used blue painter’s tape [Read More…]

{Bare Books}

I am loving these Bare books you can find at http://www.barebooks.com/chunky.htm. They are blank board books that come in squares 5×5 and 8×8. They even have 8×10. Check it out. They are especially fun for making mini digital scrapbooks. The square ones have 10 pages inside. What is so great is that all of the blank board books are between $1 and $1.50! {This is a 5×5 mini Valentine book I made for Brian-He loved it!} {This 8×8 book I made for Brian for our last Anniversary-it is a little story that rhymes about us-so we can read it to Abby & Bryson} We had a writer’s workshop when I taught first grade and I wish I had known about this website, for my students to publish their own little books on these board books. You have to order at least $20 worth, so you might want to find a few friends to order them with. Let me know if [Read More…]

{Digi Valentine}

Here’s my little Valentine I made. I plan on printing them out (4×6) and adding some things. I’ll probably mount them on white cardstock with a border (I’ll be able to use the back to write a little message) and then add a few paper hearts in the upper right corner for a little 3d effect. You could also add some mini flowers instead of hearts. I made a little template to share-the link is below if you would like to make one. Here is the link to download it: http://www.4shared.com/file/37290469/7285cf9c/valentine_card_template.html
