During the summer months, I’m always up for a cold treat. When I’m ready for my mid-day snack I always end up wanting something sweet which doesn’t always equate to being healthy. Its like, I go to the store for some organic vegetables and I always come home with regular ice-cream. Weird. So, when my boys and I went cherry picking in my neighbors orchard, (no, we aren’t creepers…they invited us,) it was the perfect chance to make something healthy AND yummy! Frozen Cherry Yogurt Pops!

cherry yogurt pops 1

When I was growing up my mom always made these yogurt pops and I thought I would give them a little twist using the cherries.

INGREDIENTS:

-Fresh cherries, preferably ones from your friendly neighbor

-About 2 cups vanilla yogurt

-1 small tub of Cool Whip

Start by pitting all your cherries and throwing them in your food processor. Get them nice and chopped up.

Next, throw your cherries and all your other ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Stir until mixed.

mix

Then spoon it into your popsicle molds. I like to use those little mini shot-glass sized plastic cups because…they’re cuter. :) Plus these tend to melt faster than regular popsicles so having them in smaller portions helps with mess control.

frozen

Keep them in the freezer for a few hours until completely frozen and serve!

cherry yogurt pops And try to keep little hands away until you are done taking pictures. 😉 My kids were so anxious to try one of these they were like vultures circling my shoot!

Enjoy! Do you remember the Frozen Pink Lemonade Pie I shared last year? That was one of my very first posts for the chicks. Ah…the good ole days. :)

Come on by Dream Crafter for more summer fun!

Allison Miller - Guest Post Header

Hello! I’m Alli from Cupcake Diaries and I am thrilled to be here at The Crafting Chicks sharing this fun space snack idea with you today.

My kids are all about snacks. Especially in the summertime! And they were beyond excited when I told them we were going to make a space themed snack. I have three young boys who love everything that has to do with space. (“Mom, did you know that the sun is a star?” “Mom, how far away is Jupiter?” “Mom, did you know that Pluto was a planet when you were a kid? You’re really really old.”) They threw out all kinds of silly ideas when it came time to figure out what type of snack to make. Since they love fruit and cheese like crazy, we decided on these super cute Rocket Skewers.

Rocket Skewers - An out-of-this-world snack that's perfect for a summer afternoon!

I love these little rockets for a few reasons. The first is that they’re full of fruity goodness. I’ve been lucky to have kids that love fruit and beg me for it on a daily basis. I also love that they can help me put these rockets together. The littlest kiddos aren’t able to actually put the fruit on the skewers, but they sure loved handing me the fruit! And I love that this snack is colorful, which makes it tons more fun to eat.

Rocket Skewers - An out-of-this-world snack that's perfect for a summer afternoon!

You’ll need pineapple, bananas, blueberries, cheese, watermelon, and bamboo skewers for this snack. I had my vulture children surrounding me while I took this picture. It took everything in them not to grab at everything on this plate.

Rocket Skewers - An out-of-this-world snack that's perfect for a summer afternoon!

My three year old has a play group every week and I’m so excited to make these for the kids when it’s our turn next. You can make a whole lot of these rocket skewers or just a few.

Rocket Skewers - An out-of-this-world snack that's perfect for a summer afternoon!

Rocket Skewers

Ingredients

  • bamboo skewers
  • watermelon, cut into triangles
  • blueberries
  • bananas, cut into large sections
  • cheese, cut into chunks
  • pineapple, cut into chunks

Directions

Arrange fruit and cheese so it looks like a rocket. Start with a pineapple chunk then add 1 cheese chunk, 2 blueberries, 1 piece of banana, and top with a piece of watermelon. Serve as is or with fruit dip.

I hope you enjoy this snack! They’re so easy and so fun.

Hey there, friends!  Keri here from Shaken Together with a fun no-bake treat that your family will love!  I am channeling striped tents, lion tamers, tight rope walkers and clowns for this big top themed Circus Snack Mix!

circus-snack-mix-pan

With a mix of circus themed treats, this snack mix would be perfect to take along on a trip to the circus, for a Dumbo movie day or a big top themed play date!  Come on in … welcome to the circus!!

circus-snack-mix-welcome-to-the-circus

Circus Snack Mix is almost too much fun in one no-bake snack!  The kids can help with shopping and picking out the ingredients at the store and then help at home with the measuring, scooping, stirring and serving.

Circus Snack Mix
Ingredients
  • Circus Peanuts
  • Pretzel twists
  • Kettle Corn (the pre-popped packaged kettle corn will stay fresh a bit longer than fresh popped)
  • Frosted Circus Animal Crackers
  • Round sour cherry candies (or any round red candies)
Instructions
  1. When you are ready to serve, mix together circus peanuts, pretzels, kettle corn, frosted circus animal crackers and sour cherry candies in a large bowl.
  2. There are no specific measurements - just put together to your family's tastes!
  3. Serve in polka dotted cups, snow cone paper cones or even mini waffle cone bowls!
  4. Store any leftovers in an air tight container and eat within a day or two.
While small paper bowls or cups work just fine to serve this fun snack … serving Circus Snack Mix in mini waffles bowls ups the fun and cuteness factors x1000!
circus-snack-mix-close

Wonder why I picked each ingredient for the Circus Snack Mix?

  • Circus Peanuts (or substitute honey or dry roasted peanuts) – elephants, the stars of the big ring, eat peanuts and so do all of their adoring fans!
  • Kettle Corn – popcorn is a classic circus snack
  • Pretzel twists – soft pretzels are a circus staple
  • Frosted circus animal crackers – bears, horses, lions and tigers have long time been featured at the circus.  Feel free to substitute regular or chocolate animal crackers if you are not serving this snack mix immediately.
  • Sour red cherry candies – these represent the bright red clown noses that children for generations have associated with the perky performers

What a fun way to get the kids in the kitchen and serve up some serious fun!

With a mix of circus themed treats, this Circus Snack Mix would be fun to take along on a trip to the circus, for a Dumbo movie day or a big top play date!

I’m excited to be part of Ocean Week and am excited to share this fun little project that is part craft, part science! It goes along with a cute little book called Paul Meets Bernadette by Rosy Lamb. pmeetsb-jkt

Paul is a fish that swims in circles all day, everyday. That is until Bernadette “drops” in. Bernadette shows Pauls a colorful world he has never noticed before.

Like Paul, this project goes around in circles. We’re going to make a fish bowl spinner.

fish bowl spinner Supplies:

  • crayons
  • scissors
  • tape
  • glue stick
  • printable

First, download the fish and bowl printable.

Download

Second, color the fish and bowl. Don’t color the water, you’ll want to leave it white to work correctly. But you can color the seaweed and rocks.

fishbowlorientation

Third, turn the bowl and fish in opposite directions. On the back of the bowl, tape 2 pieces of string that are a couple feet long each.

fishbowltaped

With the gluestick, glue the fish card on top of the strings. Remember to have them going in opposite directions. Wait a few minutes for the glue to dry.

Then hold the strings and twist the fish cards up. Once they are tight, let go and as they spin it will look like the fish is actually in the bowl! This is called merging pictures and is caused because your eyes store a picture of whatever you see for a few seconds after you’ve seen it. The pictures on the spinner are moving so fast that your eyes can see both at once, and your brain merges them to make one picture.
