Apple and Pear Skillet Crumble

Hey there! It’s Katie from The Casual Craftlete. Fall is in full swing (YAY) which means Thanksgiving will be here soon. Today, I am sharing an Apple and Pear Skillet Crumble recipe. Not everyone loves pumpkin pie so I wanted to have a non-traditional dessert this year but still reminds you of fall.

Apple and Pear Skillet Crumble

This crumble is such an easy dessert to make. It’s really hard to mess it up. My home town just had their annual Apple Festival, so I had a big bag of Honeycrisp apples that I bought at the orchard. For this recipe I like mixing a hard tart apple like Granny Smith with a softer and sweeter apple like the Honeycrisp. The pears just give the crumble a great texture and some more sweetness.

Let’s get started!

To start, you combine apple and pear slices, freshly squeezed lemon juice, granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Next, you make the amazing crumble topping which is made up of cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg, brown sugar, flour, oats, salt and lots of butter. Hey, it’s the holidays so it’s ok to spurge a bit.

Then, you combine everything in a cast iron skillet. Of course, if you don’t have a skillet you can always use a baking dish. But, I think everything tastes better in the cast iron. Then bake until nice and bubbly. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
