Jalapeno Turkey Burgers

I’m going to share one of our family favorite recipes today. I got this recipe from my sister-in-law who is a wonderful cook. I have made these for lots of friends and family and anyone who tastes them has asked for the recipe. Don’t be scared by the jalapeno. I don’t like lots of heat and the jalapenos just add some flavor.

What you’ll need:

1 1/2 lbs. of ground turkey (Don’t use more than this. I like to use the ground turkey breast if you can find it, or the leanest you can find.)
1 jalapeno chile
2 oz. grated Monterey Jack cheese (about 1/2 cup)
1/4 cup plain dried breadcrumbs
2 TBLS mayonnaise
course salt and fresh ground pepper

Desired toppings:
cheddar cheese
tomato
bbq-ranch mayo sauce (recipe below)
lettuce
bacon
pickles
onions

You’ll want to heat your grill to medium-high.

Now for the jalapeno. If you want your burgers to be flavorful but not hot you will want to remove the ribs and seeds. If you want a little heat than you can leave in the seeds and ribs. Play around with it and see where you want it.

Chop up your jalapenos! I chop mine pretty small cause I like to have a little crunch everywhere!

In a medium bowl, place the turkey, jalapeno, cheese, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, 1 tsp coarse salt, and 1/4 tsp. pepper. Mix gently with a fork to combine, being careful not to overwork the meat, which would make the burgers dense.

Gently form meat into 4 equal patties, about 4 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick. Press thumb in the center of each atty to make an indentation to keep the burgers flat during grilling.

Grill the burgers about 5-8 minutes on each side. You can toast the buns while the burgers are cooking. Add the desire toppings and enjoy!

Now one of the best parts of this turkey burger is the bbq-ranch-mayo sauce.

You’ll just combine equal parts of bbq sauce, ranch, and mayo. I slather this stuff on the toasted top bun and will sometimes even dip my burger in it. It’s that good!
