We Love You Because… Father’s Day Message Plaque

Hooray! Brooke and I are going to be on Fresh Living again today at 1pm MDT. You can check us out there to see this project in action and all the other cute things we have worked up for Father’s Day! Now, on to the post.

Some of my best ideas come when I am trying to go to sleep at night. (Isn’t that the worst?)  This was one of those ideas and I was so giddy and excited to make it that I almost couldn’t wait till nap-time. There is painting involved in this project so I did have to wait, otherwise I was gonna have a mess on my hands.

I was thinking that it would be cute for my girl’s to have a place to write their daddy a little something they love about him each day. This plaque was the perfect solution. It has dry erase vinyl on it so each day we can tell daddy what we love and then the next day write something else without too much trouble at all.

So here’s what you will need:

a 7×7 wood plaque
your choice of paint color
paint brush
vinyl lettering
dry erase vinyl

First off you want to paint your board. Since I am doing this for my husband and I wanted to keep the colors masculine and went with this dark blue. I love it with the browns. I painted the back completely and the front just enough cause the vinyl would cover most of it and I wanted to get it all made quickly.

I then applied the beige background vinyl. Then decided placement of my words and dry erase vinyl.

I got a cute little easel from Rod Works and sat my little plaque on there and wrote a cute little note to my hubby. I love it! Now what man wouldn’t love to come home and find a cute little love note written for him?!?

I also did one that is a little generic so that I could give it as a gift or just a write a love note to anyone on.

I also think it would be super cute to do one with my girl’s names on it (up the side where “Daddy” is) so they can have love notes each night before bed.

Since I have a newborn I took it easy on myself and called my friend Jill with Utah Vinyl. I told her my idea and she ran with it and helped me make my vision come to life. If you have a Silhouette you could cut this out, but Jill had made a kit out of it and you can order it from her site, Utah Vinyl. Jill is even going to give Crafting Chicks readers a great deal on the kits. You can get them for $4.50 each when you mention Crafting Chicks. (Regular price $5.25-$5.50).

    1. I bought mine from Pick Your Plum last year but I’m pretty sure that Utah Vinyl has some. She would even cut it in the cute shapes. I did get one from her.
