DIY Trick or Treat Banner & Mantel Decor

I am thrilled to kick off our Halloween “Trick or TWEET!” We have some fun treats in store for you over the next couple of weeks. So check back often to see what crafty goodness we are up to over here at the Crafting Chicks! We would love to see some of your Halloween & Fall projects as well. You can either leave a comment on our blog posts or Facebook page and we’ll check them out. We really want to start featuring some of our readers’ amazing ideas!

Today I want to share my DIY Trick or Treat Banner & Mantel Decor with you. It was simple, quick and fun to make & I love how it turned out. This is my favorite season & a busy one-that’s for sure! All 4 of my kiddos birthdays fall in October! We will be having quite the month!

So…on to the banner!

Supplies you will need for the Trick or Treat Banner:

-Black and Orange paper (I LOVE using paper with damask, polka-dot, and striped patterns)

-Ribbon (black, white and orange)  I love the little .99 cent spools you find at any craft store

-Some sort of adhesive (I love the dot runners)

-Black cardstock to mount your letters on

-Letters (you can download mine or make your own using Photoshop, or just picking up some letters at a craft store)

-Scissors & scallop scissors

-black ink pad

-Twine or rustic string to hang your letters on

Step one:  cut out your letters that say “Trick Or Treat

Step 2:  Cut a triangle pattern out of cardstock. Cut triangles out of your paper using the pattern.

Step 3:  Mount your letters on black cardstock and cut around the circles using scallop scissors.

Step 4:  Mount your letter circles on to the triangles.

Step 5:  Lay out your triangles as you go. This way you can create a pattern with your paper that looks great.

Step 6: Ink around the edges of your triangles. This gives it a great rustic look-perfect for Halloween.

Step 7:  String your letters in order on your twine or rustic looking string. I added a black and white, polka-dot triangle at the beginning and end of my wording.

Step 8: & my last and favorite step…add your ribbon inbetween the triangles. Everything is better with ribbon:)

And now you have a very cute Halloween banner!

Now for another fun Halloween tip for your mantle. Print photos of your kiddos or family from previous Halloweens, frame them and display them! My kids were so excited to see photos from the past years!
