Halloween Decor:: Starring White Pumpkins
A neighbor walked into my house, and after seeing all the pumpkins asked, “Who has the white pumpkins on sale?”
The answer: No one.
We planted 1 mini white pumpkin plant in our garden and it went crazy. So, in sticking with my theme of inexpensive decor, they are everywhere in this year’s Halloween decorating. And can I say that I love what my Halloween decor has evolved into!?
I do.
When my husband comes home to find our house decorated for holidays he thinks how much did this one cost me. I was happy to report that only $7 was spent on this year’s decor. I’ll break down the cost and let you in on a few of my secrets.
See my black flowers from last year? I love how they look in the pot and it freed up my skeleton hands to mix in with the potpourri.
This orange tray I picked up on summer clearance for $3, knowing it would be great for Halloween. And once again the dollar store has the crows I so love.
I saw this idea for the bats on another blog and used my Silhouette SD to cut out Crystal’s Halloween papers into little bats. Then I folded back their little wings, glued them on cardstock and inserted into a frame making my own specimen collection.
The colors of Crystals papers made me so happy that I decided to use them as the color theme of this year’s Halloween. I made this Boo! sign using them too.
When I was roommates with Crafting Chick Jamie she used the word spooky a lot. I picked it up too, and my mom got so sick of hearing me use it she made me this Spooky sign.
And the Potterybarn inspired hurricanes holding the potpourri and hands? They are a candlestick and vase, both from the dollar store, that I glued together with E6000–for a whopping $2 each. They are out year round.
This witch is one I drew up using my Illustrator skills and then used the Halloween papers to add some color.
Here’s the breakdown of cost:
- orange tray $3
- orange pumpkins $1.50
- 2-5×7″ prints $.50
- 1 crow $1
- skeleton head $1
Everything else I already had! Either saved from Halloween’s past or pulled from other areas of the house.

Does the man of your house ‘get’ holiday decorating?
hey there. i’m just learning my silhouette. would you mind sharing the settings you used to cut the bats? what blade and what “materials” did you set it? thanks! p.s. everything is adorable.
I printed on cardstock so I used the pink blade, and the cardstock setting. A trick I’ve learned is to set the cut number to 2 so it cuts twice. What I didn’t mention in the post was that this bat project took a whole weekend to do. Let’s just say it was a learning experience. Good luck!
My sweet husband is awesome. When I gave up about half way through the Halloween decorating, he insisted that we finish. He even went so far as to dig through boxes to find the everyday frame I usually use to frame a certain picture of a certain mom being particularly “spooky!” I know he’s not normal, but I love him all the more for it.

I want to know how much carving pumpkins are? (is that what you call them)?
They are here now this year (I’m in Australia) for the 1st time and they are on sale FROM $20 each.
Also do you just toss them out when Halloween is done?
I have never seen white pumpkins. Can youeat them?
I really want a photo of pumkins on sale but that might be a bit much to ask?

Hi Jane. Pumpkins usually cost between $2-$4 for the carving ones. Much less than the $20 they are charging down under!
Nuh-uh! You grew those pumpkins? I am so jealous. I have been looking for them everywhere! We used to get them when we lived in WA and I loved them so much. I’m totally going to plant some next year and hope that they actually produce something. 🙂 I love, love, LOVE your decorations.
