Faux Succulent Monogram

Hey guys! It’s Shelly from Dolen Diaries and I’m back to share my latest obsession!! Faux Succulent picks from Floracraft! Have you seen these yet!?! They are totally cute, look like the real deal, and are completely maintenance free. Floracraft generously sent me some to get creative with and I’m SO excited to show you what I came up with… a Faux Succulent Monogram.

monogram succulent wreath supplies

Supplies:

  • pallet wood
  • Floracraft Succulent Picks
  • Styrofoam
  • jigsaw
  • chop saw
  • wire cutters
  • carpenters square
  • tape measure
  • nail gun with nails
  • pencil

draw base for faux succulent monogram wreath

To start lay out your pieces of wood for the bottom and draw out your monogram outline in pencil. *You could print out a template to trace.

cutting out monogram with a jigsaw tool

wood monogram pieces

Cut the base pieces out with a jigsaw.

inner and outter frame layout Collage

Lay the cut base pieces out and begin cutting pallet wood pieces to frame the base. Carefully measure each section of your base to make sure that your frame will fit properly. Start with the outer frame and then work on the inner frame. *Each joint is a 45 degree angle so cut each joint piece at a 22.5 degree angle.

inside frame attach

Once everything is cut and laid out start assembling the inner frame.

air nail pallet frame together

Attach the pieces with an air nail gun.

inner pallet monogram frame assembled

Here’s our finished inner frame.

inner frame into the center of the pallet monogram

Slide the base around the inner frame and secure into place with nails.

nail the outter frame to the monogram pallet

Attach the outer frame to the base of the monogram piece by piece. Strong man hands come in really handy for this part to make sure the joints are all tightly secured.

pallet wood monogram frame finished

Now you have your finished pallet monogram.

You really could display this pallet monogram just as it is or slap on a coat of paint or stain to customize it a bit.

fill monogram with styrofoam1

Take some Styrofoam and cut it into pieces and start filling the frame.

pallet monogram filled with sytrofoam

Once the frame is full of foam you’re ready to start working on your succulent pick placement.

trim ends of succulent picks

Using wire cutters trim the picks down to fit your monogram depth.

faux succulent picks

Push the pick into the foam and

continue to fill in the rest of the monogram.

moss around faux succulents

Fill in the blank spots with moss to finish off your succulent monogram.

Now do a little dance because you love how it turned out. Okay, so maybe that’s just me but don’t you just LOVE it!?!

I was crushing on my faux succulent monogram so much that I decided to make it into a wreath and hang it right by our front door so I can enjoy it every day! Where would you display your succulent monogram?

Hello! I’m Ginger from GingerSnapCrafts.com, and I am so excited to be here today sharing this super easy & fun colorful burlap wreath! This wreath provides that fun pop of color to your front door that is perfect for spring. Who’s ready for spring? I know I am. So let’s get started! :)

burlap ribbon wreath

You’ll need a few supplies for this project:
foam wreath form
wide burlap ribbon
glue gun & glue sticks
4 burlap flowers

I found these (already made!) burlap flowers for a few dollars each at the craft store. They come in so many fun colors. I’m sure you can find some to match your home decor! :)

burlap flower

First I wrapped my wreath form with the burlap ribbon. I used the hot glue gun every couple of inches or so to secure the ribbon to the wreath. Be careful the hot glue is hot, & the burlap is pretty porous. You don’t want to burn yourself. I’m talking from experience. 😉

After my wreath form was completely covered with burlap it was time to glue on the burlap flowers. I spaced them pretty close together, & then I glued them in place with the hot glue. That’s it! All done! I told you it was easy. 😉

I love how it looks on my front door. It’s so nice & springy!
Now I’m just hoping the weather thinks that, too! ha! 😉

Thanks so much for letting me share this fun tutorial with you, and thanks so much to the Crafting Chicks for having me over! It’s been fun! :)

We are so excited to present ALY who is talented, sweet and hilarious.  Welcome Aly!  Hi Friends! I’m Aly. I blog over at Entirely Eventful Day. I blog about stuff like DIY Projects, Interior Design, and even Parenting Advise. I am so happy to be back on The Crafting Chicks to share a fun, springy tutorial with you!
I love wreaths. I love moss. What could be better for Spring than a simple moss wreath? I am going to show how to make one. It’s so easy and so cute, fresh, and Springy!

What you need:
A foam form. (I paid about $6 for this one at Hobby Lobby. It was with the foam stuff, not the wreath forms.)
A hot glue gun
Moss (find it in the floral department at the craft store)

Simply glue sections of the moss to the form. I put the glue on the moss first and then carefully pressed it to the form. Be careful of your fingers, the glue can seep through the moss a little. I got a burn :(.

Here’s what it looks like half way done. This is a messy little project. Because you are using real moss, and it’s a little dirty, prepare your work area for easy clean up.

And here it is hanging on my front door. I love how simple it is. You could totally add stuff to dress it up. I’m thinking hydrangeas or ranunculus. The options are limitless! OR just leave it simple, fresh, and green! Oh, I’m loving all these ideas!

I just adore the fresh greenery. And the best part is… no watering. Since I am the queen of killing plants, this is a serious plus in my book!

Remember how I mentioned you could add stuff to dress it up? Well, I decided to dress mine up with a gilded monogram. Come on over and visit my blog for the Gold Monogram Tutorial.

Wreaths aren’t just for the front door anymore! They’re finding their way to practically every room of the house. And when you’re creating a wreath to celebrate the season or a special occasion, you’re only limited by your imagination. There are some great wreath ideas in The Home Depot Fall Style Guide.

We have a very light kitchen–white cabinets, white backsplash, light countertops, stainless steel appliances, light gray walls, and white board batten  around the dining room. I love how bright it is, and actually chose it to be that way, but I like a pop of color to liven things up. We have a weird upper cabinet that angle out towards the dining room. One day I hope to put glass doors on it and fill it with bright serving dishes, but until then I try to keep wreaths hanging on the doors.

I love this tip from Home Depot’s Fall Style Guide: “Create your home’s oasis with the latest trends in kitchen and bathroom décor by using muted, natural hues that sing to warm, cozy spaces, or metal finishes that make your home sparkle.” It was what inspired these two wreaths. (more…)

My Halloween decorations are a never ending project. Every year I just add one or two things, but my storage containers can’t hold it all anymore! One of the additions this year was this Glitter Blast wreath for the front door. This project uses a black wreath, Halloween berry garland, and Krylon’s Glitter Blast from ConsumerCrafts.com. I loved shopping on ConsumerCrafts.com. It’s an online craft store without a closing time and with great prices! (more…)
