I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I try to find storage for my kids things anywhere they might use it. So the coloring books and supplies end up in my china hutch.

It’s a pretty storage space when you’re looking at it like this. But open up the cabinet that the coloring supplies are housed in and….

YIKES! It’s like my tupperware cabinet. Shove something in and hope it stays long enough to close the door.

So when I was walking around Michaels the other day and saw these darling chalk storage containers, I knew they were my solution. They match perfectly and were the perfect sizes. There are tons of fun things down the Maker Market isle in Michaels right now.

First off, I cleaned out that cabinet and threw away a ton of old papers and broken crayons. By this time I had attracted the attention of my 2nd oldest. She was cooking with dad, but thought my project looked a bit more fun.

We used the smaller crates to store the markers and crayons. I wrote on each of the chalk board sides with the chalk markers I purchased at Michaels as well. She loved helping add those into the crates.

Next we made a bin for the coloring books, which I swear multiply. Then I needed an answer for all those homework woes, so I added in a homework bin. Each day after school, my girls are to unload their papers into this bin. I can then go through and trash what we don’t need and keep what we need to work on or what I want to save for later. This might be my favorite part!

Then we came up with a configuration of the bins that would be most useful. Coloring book bin is in the back on the bottom, with the markers and crayons in front. My logic here is that they can grab those things if they need them for homework or anything, whereas the coloring books can be pulled out afterwards if that’s what they really want. The homework bin is on top for easy access. Did I mention that I’m excited for that one?

I love how the storage bins fit perfectly and slide out like little drawers. The answer to my prayers!

And there you have it! It looks a lot better then it did.
