Hello there! It’s Katie from The Casual Craftlete. I can’t believe we are already in the swing of summer! Today I am sharing these adorable Patriotic Popcorn Favors. I just love making my own popcorn at home. The flavors are amazing and it is super simple to make. Plus, homemade popcorn is much better for you. Store bought popcorn often use unhealthy fat and is loaded with sodium. This homemade popcorn has just three ingredients and you know exactly what is in the popcorn. I thought it would be fun to put homemade popcorn into cute red, white and blue patriotic favors. It’s a fun surprise for family and friends when they come over to celebrate the holidays and summertime.

Let’s make the favors first.

What you’ll need to make the favors:

• Fry box
• Washi tape
• Star cork sticker

 To make the favors patriotic, you will need red, white and blue materials. I bought all of the materials at my local craft store.

First I started by wrapping a blue and white washi tape around a red fry box. I really like the bright red fry box and the way the navy and white washi tape pops off of the red. I like the flower pattern on the washi tape too. It breaks up the solid bright red color of the fry box. It’s starting to look patriotic!

The second and final step to making the favors is adding a cork star sticker to the center of the washi tape. I love the rustic look of the cork and it is nice to add a different color to the favors. Making these patriotic popcorn favors are super simple. Two steps and you are done. And they look so cute!

Let’s make the homemade popcorn.

Ingredients

• 1/4 cup raw popcorn kernels
• 1 teaspoon coconut oil
• Salt to taste (I like using my Paprika Chili Pepper Salt for a nice mild heat flavor)

Directions:

• Place popcorn kernels, coconut oil and salt into a paper bag and fold closed tightly. I like using brown paper lunch bags.
• Hit the popcorn button on your microwave, or heat for about 1:25.

The paper bag will get greasy, which is why serving the homemade popcorn in a favor is the perfect idea!
