What Is Thanksgiving Scattergories?

If you’ve ever played classic Scattergories games, you know how fast-paced and hilarious they can be. Our Thanksgiving Scattergories Game takes that same fun and gives it a festive twist with Thanksgiving-themed categories.

Here’s how it works: players get a game sheet filled with different categories (like “Foods You Eat on Thanksgiving,” “Things You’re Thankful For,” or “Words That Start with TURKEY”). Then, a letter of the alphabet is chosen, and players race against the timer to come up with a unique answer for each category that begins with that letter.

It’s a fun Thanksgiving game that gets everyone thinking creatively — and laughing at the silly answers that pop up!

Instructions for Thanksgiving Scattergories Free Printable:

Step 1:

Download and print out your download.

Step 2:

Give each player a copy of the free printable game, along with a pencil.

Step 3:

Set a timer. Depending on the age group you are working with you could set it for 3 minutes or longer if they need it. The challenge is to come up with a word that fits the description and starts with the letter at the top of the column. The key is to come up with different words than others in your group.

You can’t use the same word for two different categories.

At the end of the round you’ll go down the list and share your answer. If no one else wrote the same thing on that category on the answer sheet, you get a point. Person with the most points wins.

Continue playing with the next letter until you have finished the different letters on the freebie.

Scoring:

For every category you answer with a legitimate word that starts with the correct answer you get 1 point. Unless another player answers with the same words on the category list, and then you get no points. For answers with 2 words that start with the same letter

With the category “Something orange” you could write P – pumpkin pie, I – ibuprofen, E – energy drink, S – sunset. Pumpkin pie would give you 2 points.

Player with the most points wins.
