The BEST Corn on the Cob

One of my favorite things about summer is the FOOD!!! I love food fresh from the garden and I enjoy getting whatever I don’t grow, from local farmers. Luckily I live really close to Day’s Farms, a local farm that sells such yummy fruits and veggies. Now when is comes to this fresh food, not many things are better than fresh corn on the cob rolled in butter with salt and pepper. My Mother-in-law made the BEST corn on the cob and I am going to share her secrets with you. (That’s how much we love our readers! We share secret family recipes!)  I am sure this will become the staple way that you make your corn from now on.

Fill a pot with cold water and place on your stove top. The cold water will help the corn kernels stay firm and crisp.

Next add a splash of lemon juice and a dash of sugar. I really don’t measure these (maybe a tsp – tbsp) but  I will add more or less depending on how many cobs I am cooking. The lemon juice and sugar will enhance the flavor of the corn giving you one yummy cob.

Cover your pot and turn your burner onto high. Once the water begins to boil turn the burner off and set your timer for 20 minutes. Once the timer goes off your yummy corn is ready for eating!

Enjoy! (My little ones sure do!)

(Now if I only had one of Brooke’s Yummy Peach Pies to eat after I finish my corn…I’d be all set!)

  1. I really want this for dinner tonight. I’ve never thought of doing anything but “boil water, put in corn, wait, eat.” I’m excited to see how it turns out!!

  2. We love Day’s corn at our house! We grill it, slather it in butter, salt and pepper THEN…wait for it…we add a squeeze of lemon juice and freshly grated parm cheese. It’s amazing!

  3. We tried this a few days ago, and it was awesome! Hubby was reluctant because of the time factor and “why mess with what we already like” mindset, but we tried it and both liked it. Will definitely prepare our corn this way again!

  4. Alton Brown on the Food Network says that corn on the cob actually only takes 1 minute in boiling water to cook. Any longer and you’re cooking out nutrients. 🙂
