Tin Foil Dinner

Do you need a quick, easy idea for dinner tonight?  Here’s an oldie but goodie that the kids can help with. Tin Foil or Hobo Dinners are so fun, easy, and the best part, you don’t even have to heat your house up to cook them.  Just throw them on the grill or head up to the mountains and throw them on top of some coals.  Super fun. Here’s how I made mine. tin-foil-dinners

Tin Foil Dinners

(One recipe equals one person’s meal)
1/2 lbs. of hamburger
mixed veggies (I use potatoes, carrots and onions, but you could use whatever sounds good.  I wish I would have added fresh mushrooms to mine.)
1/2 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
Spices and Seasonings to taste

 Tin Foil Dinners Spreading Soup

Get a generous portion of your Heavy Duty foil (if your foil isn’t Heavy Duty then double up).  Make sure to spray cooking spray on it from end to end so that the food doesn’t stick.  Spread a little of the Cream of Mushroom Soup on the bottom but reserve most of it for on top. Tin Foil Dinners Meat and Onions Place your hamburger on top of the soup, then add your veggies.  This is a great place for the kiddos to help out.  Let them add what veggies they want and the amount they want as well.  Remember, kids love to eat what they help make. Tin Foil Dinners ready to cook Use salt, pepper, and any other seasonings you want at this point and then cover it all with the rest of the Cream of Mushroom Soup.  Wrap up your packet and place either on the top shelf of your grill for about 35-40 mins or until your meat is cooked through.  You could also cook on coals, or in your oven at 350 for about 45 mins. Just remember to check periodically so your veggies don’t burn. Tin Foil Dinners Enjoy!! It sure was tasty and a fun out for our family.  Oh, and easy clean up too. Do you have any fun end of summer recipes for the rest of us to try?

I love these! However, we don’t use Cream of Anything soup, we just do meat (hamburger or a chicken breast pounded flat), potatoes, onions and carrots with garlic salt and pepper. And then use ketchup and mustard when we eat them. That is how I grew up eating them, but we now have to eat Gluten Free so soup free works as well. If I’m feeling really adventurous I might add a sprig of rosemary (my favorite) or sprinkle some dried herbs or other seasonings on them.

We just made these last weekend!! My husband put cream of mushroom, cut- up Bratwurst, diced hashbrowns and corn. Let me tell you, it did not look good, but the end result was definently tastey!!!

I made this last night because we didn’t have a lot of time left out of the day and I had to come up with something easy and quick! this was delicious! I used ground turkey instead but came out smelling and tasting so good!
We just bought the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie and so I called it the Pirate’s Dinner and the kids thought it was so fun to eat it while watching the movie!

I love foil dinners. I learned to make them at Brownie Scout day camp. I have not tried adding the soup but plan to do that the next time I make them. So easy to make and so delicious!

I love these. Great idea about adding the soup. I love that it’s a whole meal, all in one little (or BIG!) packet. I had to add a bit of cooking time in the oven, so it ended up being a little over an hour to cook them all through (potatoes were still crunchy after 45 minutes, and meat was still pink)

I added lemon juice, dill, sour cream and onion soup mix to the soup and ate it with chicken. Best outdoor dinner ever!
