Last week I posted about Ikea’s First :59 Campaign and one of our morning problems. I shared how our mornings have been so crazy and chaotic. I wanted to find a way to motivate my kids to accomplish their morning tasks quickly so that we can have smooth mornings and make it to the bus on time! Also, I wanted to be able to motivate my kids to get certain tasks accomplished in the morning so that our afternoons aren’t so crazy full! I am excited about our new plan!

Morning Motivation Solution

With the help of some of Ikea’s awesome organizational items, I created a little nook in our mudroom! I call it our “Sanity Station.” The kids are already loving it. And I think it is the best Morning Motivation Solution I’ve come up with in a long time.Morning Motivation Solution. What you’ll need to make your Morning Motivation Solution

I bought these Magnetic Boards. They were the perfect size for the individual job charts!Ikea Magnet Board for Job Charts

I also chose this standard Notice Board (cork board) to add each child’s weekly schedule.Cork board for Job Charts

The main plan for the job/motivation charts was to split “to do” things up…some for the morning, some for the evening. I added a few more things than normal to the morning section. My kids are getting older and since we wake up early to get ready for school, getting more accomplished will help us simplify our evenings.Morning Motivation Solution. When the kids finish a task or two, they love moving their magnet from the “to do” section to “done.” I love crossing things off my to do list…and this is a great visual way for kids to see tasks accomplished! I LOVE these magnet boards. I love not having to search for pens, or deal with messy markers.Morning Motivation Solution. For positive reinforcement, we count up a point for each “done” magnet. We add these up through the week and each kids gets minutes for special activities, dates with mom/dad, or even extra minutes staying up late. They are really excited for the new charts! 1. Hi Hannah and Aubrey-
We have a post with some ideas. It is linked in the post. But the idea is some chores as well as activities like, dance or soccer, are listed across the top.

      1. Hi my name is Tinese, I’ve downloaded the boys chore chart, but there isn’t an option for me to go in and taylor it to my sons name. Please advise?

        1. Hi Tinese,
If you are able to take the chart into Word, you can add a text box at the top to add his name.
If you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, you can do the same thing. Hope that helps.
          Thanks

    1. I’m curious if anyone can help me get text in the printable version?? I have a Mac and can’t for the life of me figure it out! Thanks

    1. Yes Please, what is the font used for the headings? Trying to get the names to look the same…

  7. Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea!!! I am very excited to get started with this idea in my household! I also have 2 boys and 2 girls and desperately need some better organization!! Thank you!!

      1. Hi there. How did you attach the magnetic board to the wall? And also can you confirm that you used tacky putty to put the chore list on the magnetic board? Would any other glue work as well?

  8. These are such a life saver, thank you for the printables–you just saved me so much time and I need every second I can get!!! Thanks for your dedication to things like this, moms like me appreciate it so much.

  9. Can you please share a download of the M-F chore chart from above? I love the complete look and am having trouble replicating! My kids will love this! Thanks so much!

    1. The chore chart download is in the post. Once you click on the link it will bring it up in another window. In the top right hand corner you should see an option for download. The file may be zipped, or compressed so once downloaded you’ll need to right click and unzip if that’s the case.
      Thanks!

      1. Hi – the main chore chart downloaded as a single-page file, but I’d love to see the M-F lists you have. Is there a separate download for that? It didn’t come up with the boy chore chart. Thank you!

  10. Thank you for sharing this great idea and making it available to all of us. I downloaded the chart but is there a way that I can edit it through word rather then writing on it? Thank you in advance.

  11. Where can I get the template for the name tag you used? I’d like it to match the To Do list. Thanks!

  12. I read several comments is same question as mine but do not see where it is answered. Questions is… Can you share what is on the weekly M-F list on cork board?
    Thank you.

  13. Thank you so much for sharing the download! We are struggling a bit this summer with structure and behaviour and I hope that introducing a system like this will get us back on the road!

    thanx!

  14. Hello! Some quick questions. I looked at both hobby lobby and home depot and neither had magnetic boards. Where did you get yours? Also how did you make the magnets? Just hot glue decorative buttons on to the magnets? I’m not very crafty so I need specific instructions for everything. Thanks!!

  15. Is there a printable for the kids names across the top of your boards or a copy of the weekly chore lists? I saw many people ask, but did not see any responses. The only downloads that load are the chore charts.

      1. Any update on the printable for the kids names across the top of your boards or a blank copy of the weekly chore lists? TIA

  16. I keep seeing the same question being asked over and over and over again since 2014!! It would be really nice if someone on this blog would respond. I have the same inquiry as others about the M-F weekly post. Maybe it’s a fake chore list since this is a sponsored post? You don’t have to share what is on the weekly chore list, but a response would be nice. And, FYI I can’t find these magnetic boards online at Ikea.

    1. Sorry. I try to respond when I see the comments come in but sometimes I’m not notified.
You can find the chore list here, https://thecraftingchicks.com/weekly-jobs-kids/.
The magnet boards were purchase at IKEA and they don’t always have everything listed online. If you don’t have an IKEA close by you can search Amazon for magnet boards, or just tack it to your wall.

  17. These are great! However, the IKEA link doesn’t work and it doesn’t look like they have $4.99 magnetic boards any more. What size are the magnetic boards you used?

  18. Hi! I love this and want to use it, but want to make it purple instead of pink to match my daughters room. How can I do that? Also how big are the magnet boards? The link doesn’t work anymore. Thank you!

  20. Thank you so much! I printed the girl’s chart and the age-appropriate chores this morning. I’m excited to start expecting more from my kids! I’m really not a fan of doing “everything”.

  21. Anyone know how to mount the magnet sheets onto the wall? I tried 3M adhesive spray but it’s not working well 🙁
Btw for those looking, I bought my magnetic sheet on Amazon. Just one, bigger than the ones used here.

    1. I used 3M velcro type piece, however its been about 4-5 months and they are falling off now. Going to try something different this time around. We love the chore charts though, they look so cute on our wall, and help our little duckies stay in a row (somewhat) haha.

      1. I have to make sure that I follow all the directions to a “T” with those to ensure they stick for a while. Good luck. Let us know if you find something that works better. 🙂

  22. I love these chore lists! Would it be possible to get them in different colours? Perhaps yellow, green and red?
    Thanks!

  23. Hi! What size is the magnetic board? I checked ikeas website but didn’t see one that looked to be this size.
    Thanks,
    Tiffany

  24. Hello! When I download the chart it opens in Paint which does not allow me to add text. Is there a way you can share this in word or as a google doc so we can edit it using fonts vs writing on it? Thank you so much!

    1. Hi Marie,
What you’ll want to do is make sure that you have it downloaded. Then you can open it in any editing software you want. Hope that helps.

  25. IKEA no longer sells these magnetic boards. Has anyone found a good alternative? I have looked all over online and I’m just not sure what to use in place of the actual IKEA boards. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    1. I’ve been looking for a good option for you too. I’m wondering if right now, you just go to Home Depot or Lowes and get some sheet metal cut to the size you want. That seems like a cheap but good option. Sorry!

        1. I love this!! I’ve been trying to look for something so they can do the routine stuff without me reminding them ALL the time. Hope this works! Can anyone tell me how to attach the paper to the magnetic board? Regular glue? I found this on amazon. You can fit 2 sheets on their for 2 kids.

    2. We just used the dry erase boards from walmart that are about that same size. They are magnetic so works just fine. They are only a couple dollars a piece, however there is a small lip around it from the frame.

  26. Do you have a file for the Name Tags above the chore chart. I have read through the comments and it has been asked but i never have seen anything link to it.

  28. My 12 year old Tweenager Daughter ……her room is always in a mess barbie and lol dolls and stuffed animals everywhere she would clean more often if it was more fun than it is but these cute charts would help help her with chores in her morning routine and day routine and night routine! She will likely be more excited if I give her a small reward at the end of the day if she does all of her chores. She has no siblings and does not want any. I don’t blame her. I can make her a chart like this and I think she will find doing her chores more fun!

    1. Hi, I know it is asked over and over again but the overall look is what so many of us like. I have downloaded the template charts as well as the age appropriate chores. What many of us are wanting are the blank templets for the weekly activities for each child (shown on the Cork Board) as well as the larger name banners that go the top of the individual Chore boards (shown on the silver metal boards). Part of what is so appealing about your design is it all matches and is aesthetically appealing which makes it look nice on a wall in your home vs mix matched and thrown together. is there anyway to get the blank templets for the weekly activities and name plates so we can customize those while still matching the chore charts.

    1. We are working on getting those done. We didn’t really think everyone would love those as much as they have. We are a little slow. I love your comment and how you explained it all. That helps us see the need and we will get these done. Thanks tons.
