Hi friends, it’s Aly from Entirely Eventful Day. I am so excited to be guest posting for The Crafting Chicks! I just love this blog, and these girls! So I’m pretty much in heaven right now.
I love Christmas and I really love Christmas traditions. I think one of the best things about being a grown-up at Christmas time is that WE get to create our own family traditions. We have a few fun traditions at our house, but my very favorite is our tradition of gift giving. We have three little ones, the oldest is 9 and the youngest is 3. They adore Christmas almost as much as I do. But what’s so great is that they know what Christmas is truly about. At our house we enjoy the gingerbread houses and Santa songs but we love to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Jesus was given three gifts at his birth… so we give each of our children three gifts.
When our first child was small we didn’t have a lot of money to spend on Christmas. We knew we had to limit ourselves. You guys know how easy it is to overspend at Christmas time. So my husband and I came up with this idea of three gifts. One gift (the big one) represents gold, followed by frankincense and myrrh (two smaller gifts).
#1 Our kids know exactly what to expect and we can keep our spending in check.
#2 We talk about the birth of Jesus while opening gifts. “Is this my ‘gold’ present mom?” We tell the story of the wise men on Christmas morning.
So, we get to bring our Savior into the conversation AND we save a whole lot of money!
If you want to bring more of the Savior into your home for Christmas, I’ve created this pretty printable just for you!
It comes in lots of fun colors so you are sure to find one that works with your holiday decor.
Click here to download the folder (it contains all of the color options).
These are formatted to print as large as 16″ x 20″ but they also work great for 8″ x 10″.
I would love for you to visit Entirely Eventful Day and take a look around. I love to blog about home decorating, DIY projects, party ideas, and so much more.
I love the idea of your 3-gift tradition! Thanks for sharing.
