6 Steps to a Spotless Kitchen in 30 Minutes!
The kitchen is the one room in my house that we use all the time! A clean kitchen = A Happy Mom! I have found that a clean kitchen, even with other parts of the house a mess, can make or break a day. Our family is calmer and happier with a clean place to eat, come together, and enjoy family dinner time together.
I’ve found a clean kitchen routine that works for us…without fail…if we keep it up, we have a happier home=happier family members. If you do these 6 steps each day, your kitchen will stay sparkling clean all week.
I also find that if I do these 6 steps in this order, it just makes sense. For example, it’s easier to clean the counters after the dishes are done, and easier to clean the floors after the counters are cleaned…hence the method to my madness.
Step 1: Dishes in 5 minutes.
Each night we do the dishes and start the dishwasher. In the morning, I do a quick unload job and load up our breakfast dishes. This usually only takes 5 minutes, and makes my day less hectic. If I wait to unload it until later, the dishes pile up and our evening chores take longer.
Step 2: A clean sink in 5 minutes.
I love a clean sink. Your kitchen will smell fresh if you clean your sink daily. After loading the dishwasher, I put a little cleaner in both sinks, and scrub away. I make sure to brush over the drains. I also run my disposal for 20 seconds with hot water. If you have lemon or orange peels, those are great to add to your disposal.
Step 3: Wipe down appliances in 5 minutes.
With this few minutes a day, it saves a lot of clean up time each week if I wipe down the stovetop, and kitchen appliances daily. Just do a quick sweep to remove that cooked on water and food. You can also quickly wipe down the microwave inside and out, and peek inside the fridge for any spills. It’s much harder to clean when food and liquids have been sitting for a week or so.
Step 4: Wipe down counters in 5 minutes.
After the dishes are put away, quickly wipe the counters down. A trick that I use to make it quicker…baby wipes! I take a baby wipe and clear off crumbs. Then when I use my sponge/washcloth it makes for a quicker job! It’s so nice to have clean counters for the next meal you will be making or serving.
Step 5: Straighten drawers or cabinets in 5 minutes.
No matter how organized the drawers start out, they get so cluttered in just a few days! Just choose one or two drawers or cupboards to straighten each day. (you can pass on the tupperware one…can that one ever be saved!) This saves me from a huge day of organizing the kitchen tools that get misplaced.
Step 6: Sweep or Vacuum Kitchen Floor in 5 minutes.
This step is my favorite. I have walnut wood floors throughout my kitchen and dining area. They are so pretty…but can be a beast! Every crumb shows! The problem:
