I picked up some chalkboard pumpkins and Heidi Swapp’s marquee lights and bulbs. These make creating your own marquee letter a breeze! I also picked up one of the new half pumpkins Michael’s is carrying for another project.

I played around on the computer to choose a font and size, and even where to place the lights. Then I traced it onto the pumpkin using a pastel pencil. These pencils are great for chalkboard art, because you can get a really fine line with them.

I tried a few different methods to remove the black, but found that taking over my husband’s work bench was the fastest. I used his Dremel tool to scrape off the black.

I really liked how they looked just black and white.

Then I switched tools and drill holes in the letters. Heidi Swapp’s marquee letters come with a template that has holes about the size of a hole punch, so that’s what I was aiming for when choosing a drill bit.

Then I put the lights together and watched my pumpkins light up!

With the holes in the bottoms of the pumpkins I’m able to stack or set the pumpkins next to each other.
