Before you start baking, gather these simple ingredients—most of which you can find at your local grocery store!
For the Cupcakes:
I use 1 box yellow cake mix or white cake mix. You can make your own using all-purpose flour or cake flour (for an extra light texture), baking powder, salt, butter, sugar, large eggs, vanilla extract, and milk. You can find our favorite cupcake recipe here.
You could also just grab some cupcakes from the bakeries around you.
For the Frosting:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 4 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Green and pink food coloring
For Decorating:
- edible grass or shredded coconut
- food colors (to tint the frosting)
- Candy eggs (mini chocolate eggs, jellybeans, or malted milk eggs. We used Cadbury Eggs, but you could use whatever is in the candy aisle at your grocery store.)
- Cupcake liners, regular and fancy
- Icing spatula

How to Bake Easter Basket Cupcakes
Now that you have all your ingredients, it’s time to start baking!
Step 1: Prepare the Batter
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a muffin pan with paper liners.
- In a large bowl or mixer, mix together the cake mix and other ingredients.
Step 2: Bake the Cupcakes
- Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with the batter.
- Bake according to box directions, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cupcakes cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Make the Frosting
- In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the confectioner’s sugar, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and milk, then beat until light and fluffy.
- Add a few drops of green food coloring and mix until the frosting reaches a soft grass-green color.
Once you have the cupcakes made you are ready to make the cute baskets for them.
Step 5: Assemble the Easter Basket Cupcakes
- Cupcakes frosted (No need for a piping bag. You don’t have to frost them fancy because you will be adding grass & eggs to cover the frosting.)
- Edible Grass in pink and green
- Cadbury Mini Eggs
- Cute cupcake liners
- Fancy Cupcake Wrappers
- 1/2 in x 8 1/3 in strips of paper in white and pink (one strip for each cupcake)
- Thin ribbon to tie on the Easter basket handle

Cut the edible grass in little strips. Add a few pinches to the top of your cupcake and press down gently. Add 3 eggs on top.

Next, Place the cupcake inside the cupcake wrapper.

Then take your strips and tuck each end down into the cupcake wrapper on both sides…to make the handle. You can staple or glue the strips in if you would like. I found that the strips stayed without using any adhesive.

And last, add the pretty thin ribbon bow on top! Your guests will love these Easter Basket Cupcakes!

A Fun Easter Treat for All Ages!
These Easter Basket Cupcakes are the perfect dessert for any springtime celebration. Whether you’re making them for an Easter brunch, a classroom party, or just as a fun way to brighten someone’s day, they’re sure to be a hit. I’d love to receive it as a gift.
Plus, this recipe is easy enough for kids to help with—let them mix the batter, pipe the frosting, or sprinkle the decorations!
