Tips for Fall Break at Disneyland

Hey Everyone, it’s Kimberly from Get Away Today, your Disneyland expert. It may be summer, but if you haven’t already started thinking about fall break at Disneyland, you’ll want to now! Soon the kids will be back to school and you’ll be dreaming of lazy summer days and vacations. To help make sure that you’re not too late when fall break rolls around, I’ve put together our top tips for booking your fall break at Disneyland, the most popular fall break destination!

Tips for Fall Break at Disneyland

1. Book early, and the earlier the better. It’s no question that the Disneyland gets busy around fall break. With Halloween Time and all of the extra festivities, it is one of the most magical and fun times of year to visit! Because of this, the best hotel deals sell out quickly. If you want to get in on any of the free night specials or end up at a hotel that has extras like free breakfast, free parking or more, you’ll want to book now so your first choice is still available. If you wait to book over fall break, you will be paying more.

2. Get the longest length of ticket you can and stay for as long as you can. Crowds at Disneyland can get intense during fall break, but the parks aren’t nearly as busy in the mornings or even late evenings. The middle of the day gets pretty packed. If you don’t plan on spending all day every day at the parks, you’ll have a more relaxing time. If parents kids start to melt down, you can leave whenever you need to knowing you can come back later without feeling like you’re missing your favorite rides or shows. I recommend a 5-day ticket to spread out your time as much as possible.

3. Be prepared for Mickey’s Halloween Party. Disneyland closes early on select nights in September and October for a separate ticketed event, Mickey’s Halloween Party. This means if you want to go to Disneyland on one of those nights, you’ll need a separate ticket. Mickey’s Halloween Party tickets range from $65 – $80 per person depending on the night you choose. Mickey’s Halloween Party includes villain meet-n-greets, a Halloween parade and special Halloween fireworks. You’ll also have access to attractions, be able to wear a costume and trick-or-treat! It is amazing. If you don’t have a ticket, you’ll need to leave Disneyland around 6 or 7pm on party nights. But don’t worry, there’s still a TON to do. I recommend heading over to Disney California Adventure to watch World of Color. Or, make a special dinner reservation for Goofy’s Kitchen, or one of the themed restaurants in Downtown Disney.

4. Be prepared for any kind of weather. October is typically an incredibly comfortable month at Disneyland with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid to high 50s. But, you should always be prepared for the unexpected. If you pack with layers in mind, you should be good to go. Normally t-shirts and shorts are great for the day with sweatshirts for night. I’d also recommend bringing a poncho just in case it rains. The rain usually scares away the locals and can leave you with a pretty great park experience if you have the proper equipment.

5. Take advantage of all of the time saving options like Fastpass, Rider Switch and Single Rider lines. Also, be sure to get a Fastpass for Frozen- Live at the Hyperion, the new Broadway style show in Disney California Adventure Park. This Fastpass won’t count as one of your regular Fastpasses, but you’ll definitely want to see the show and the tickets are normally gone by mid morning. You’ll also want to get a Fastpass for Soarin’ Around the World which opened last month. It’s one of the first Fastpass tickets to go. To avoid time waiting in line to meet the characters, I’d also recommend booking a Character Dining breakfast, lunch or dinner depending on which restaurant you choose.
