Since we are officially into summer, we are soaking in as much summer sun as we can. Any chance we can take to get outside is alright in my book. Sidewalk chalk is a staple in our house. The kids can play with it for hours! This week, I decided to try out something a little different with them. Sidewalk paint! You guys, this is so ridiculously easy to make, it’s crazy. It only takes 3 ingredients to make this recipe, and it’s totally safe for the kids.
EASY DIY SIDEWALK PAINT
Ingredients
- Cornstarch
- Food Coloring
- Water
Directions
- Mix equal parts water and cornstarch. I am not one to follow measurements even when I am cooking, I like to eyeball things. In this case, I really like to consider how many kids are playing, and how much paint I will need for each color. That said, it’s super easy to make, and kids like to spill things. So, I wouldn’t make more than 1 cup cornstarch, 1 cup water. You can always make more if necessary.
- Add food coloring and stir.
- Then, take the cornstarch and food coloring outside with you. Here’s why.. If your sidewalk paint is too runny, you will need to add more cornstarch or it basically just soaks into the pavement. Add small amounts of cornstarch at a time. Then add more food coloring if necessary.
- Have fun painting!! You can see they opted for abstract paintings! 😉
There was a time when coming up with fun crafts for the kids to do was my jam. We are so busy these days, it’s hard to do that as much. When I come across something as quick, and simple as this, I am all over it. The kids had a blast!
Xoxo, Lorrin
