Halloween Vintage Tins
Hello! We’re Kellie and Allison from Peabody and Sassafras. Fall is one of our favorite times of the year and we’re super excited to share a simple and inexpensive Halloween craft with you. We love adding little hints of vintage goodness in our home and seasonal décor. Halloween Vintage Tins and cans are the perfect example but can be really expensive and hard to find. So why not recreate you own?
We’ll show you how.
What You’ll Need:
- Cans in various sizes
- Dark brown or espresso spray paint
- Rust craft paint
- Foam brush
- Mod Podge
- Printed vintage images from Pinterest
- Soil
- Succulents and/or flowers
Step 1:
Gather your basic canned goods from the grocery or 99 cent store in various sizes. We looked for the cheapest ones we could find. Open the cans and dispose of the contents (or save them for later). Clean and dry them completely.
Step 2:
Spray paint the portions of the cans that will not be covered by a label. With your finger, dab a little bit of the rust colored paint on the top and bottom rims of the cans to add a rusted, aged appearance.
Step 3:
There are countless vintage label images online. We simply searched Pinterest for “vintage Halloween labels” and printed those that we liked. Once your cans are dry and your images are printed and trimmed to the size you need, use a foam brush to paint a thin layer of Mod Podge where the label will go. Place the label on the sticky area and cover with another thin layer of Mod Podge. Make sure the entire label is covered. Smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with your finger. Let dry.
Step 4:Plant your favorite succulents or add a beautiful flower arrangement to your vintage inspired cans and voila you have an inexpensive twist on Halloween décor.
We love how they look grouped together on a mantel or intermixed with other Halloween décor. Add a cute tag and they would be a perfect teacher gift.
We hope you enjoyed our little Halloween craft. For more ideas and inspiration follow us on Instagram @peabodyandsassafras.
