Wooden Plank Display
Today I get to reveal my wooden plank display I made as part of The Home Depot’s Virtual Party. I create this month’s Do-It-Herself Workshop project, the very project they will show you how to make in the free workshop! And put my own twist on it.
You may remember this photo from last week? It’s the DIHWorkshop project and the starting place for my plaid display!
This display is big, I’m talking 3 x 4′ big! It makes quite the statement.
Red Buffalo Plaid
The Home Depot DIHWorkshop project includes the planked board display. Instead of painting stripes I went bold with a red buffalo plaid. Buffalo check is popular and adds a fun festive flair as the backdrop to the winter wreath I picked up at The Home Depot.
To create buffalo plaid I first measured off every 4″ inches of the board and taped it off. Three different reds are needs to create this look.
Paint the horizontal lines with the lightest red. Then measure and tape off 4″ strips going vertically.
Paint the vertical striped with the medium red.
Lastly, paint the middle squares with the darkest red. You can either tape off each square, or I cut a 4″ square out of paper and used it like a stencil to fill in the dark areas.
To complete the display, I framed it in using stained one-by-twos. Framing is an inexpensive (the boards cost $3!) way to give finish off this project. A Command Strip hook holds the wreath.
To create your own plank display, register for The Home Depot’s Do-It-Herself Workshop at your local The Home Depot and then put your own spin on it! It is a free workshop and they will teach you how to build this – including how to use the tools you’ll need!Buffalo Plaid Wooden Plank Display
