- Clear contact paper
- Mini tissue paper pieces (in a variety of colors)
- Free printable heart templates (download below)
- Scissors
- Sharpie markers
- Hole punch
- Ribbon or baker’s twine
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Prepare the Contact Paper
Cut 2 pieces of clear contact paper about 11×18″ long using scissors. These will form the base of your heart suncatcher.
STEP 2: Add Tissue Paper Pieces
Peel off the sticky side of one contact paper sheet. Start placing small pieces of tissue paper onto the sticky surface. Let your kids use a variety of colors to create a vibrant heart design. Itโs so much fun for younger kids to see how their decorations come together!
STEP 3: Seal the Design
Once the contact paper is filled with tissue paper, carefully place the second piece of contact paper over the top. Smooth it out to eliminate excess wrinkles. Two sets of hands make this step easierโone person can line up the top of the heart, while the other smooths the contact paper down.
STEP 4: Trace and Cut Out the Hearts
Download the free printable heart template and print it on white cardstock for easy tracing. Use a Sharpie marker to trace the heart outline (in different sizes) onto the contact paper. Cut out the hearts using scissors, and set aside the excess contact paper.
STEP 5: Add a Hole for Hanging
Use a hole punch at the top of the heart to create a spot for threading ribbon or bakerโs twine. Thread the twine through and tie a knot to make a loop for hanging.
STEP 6: Decorate Your Windows
Finally, tape the heart suncatchers to a sunny window or hang them with ribbon for a beautiful Valentineโs Day display. The light shining through the tissue paper will create a colorful and festive decoration!
