Scallops & Stripes Sewing Table Makeover with Shape Tape™
This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape brand painter’s tape for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I love to do furniture makeovers when I get the chance. So while perusing the thrift store a few months ago I spotted this darling little sewing table for $15 and had to grab it! It was pretty scratched up but I knew it had potential! You can see from the Before and After picture that she went from dingy and dented to bright and happy with the whimsical scallops and stripes that I can’t get enough of. And in my favorite color too. 😉
Here’s the story. I love scallops (the shape, not the seafood!), and I’ve always wanted to paint them on projects but I’ve never really taken the time to cut them out with vinyl or make a stencil. Maybe I’m lazy. But then I was given the opportunity to try out the new scallop Shape Tape™ from FrogTape® and it was like a match made in heaven! 🙂 I’m loving this product–it made painting scallops a breeze.
Shape Tape™ is FrogTape® brand’s first edge treated painter’s tape with pre-cut patterns: Chevron, Wave and Scallop. This is awesome because it makes it so easy to create a variety of fun patterns in your painting projects! What makes this tape work so well is because Shape Tape™ is treated with patented PaintBlock® Technology, a super absorbent polymer that reacts with the water in latex paint and instantly gels to form a micro-barrier that seals the edges of the tape. This helps prevent paint bleed, which is really important with projects like mine. Who wants paint bleed?!? Not I.
Now. Here’s how I spiffied up my sad little sewing table with scallops and stripes using Shape Tape™ .
If you recall from the beginning of this post, I started out with a scratched sewing table with great potential.
After giving the table a quick sanding and cleaning, I primed it and sprayed it aqua.
Once dry it was time to add the scallop detail.
To use Shape Tape™ be sure to follow the package directions. Figure out how much tape you need and cut it to the right length. Slowly remove half of the white liner backing.
Place the tape onto the surface and remove the second half of the white liner. Secure the tape with your fingers, then go back over the tape with a credit card or something hard and plastic to get the edges down nice and tight. The Shape Tape™ was so easy to position and it adhered beautifully!
Paint those pretty scallops!
Remove the tape as soon as you are done painting–you can see how clean and crisp the lines are!! Awwww yeah! 🙂 This tape did not bleed at all which made me very happy. I was also careful to pull it off slowly as to not rip off any paint.
Happy scallops!
I painted a turquoise stripe on each small drawer and also painted the drawer pulls with a hammered silver spray paint.
I also did a little treatment around the larger {faux} drawer to add some interest. Instead of scalloping the edges like the smaller drawers, I painted the scallop design around the inner rectangle. The photo above shows how I taped it off.
I painted the inside of the rectangle with a lighter turquoise color and lightly sanded it all to give it a slightly faded look.
For the top of the sewing table I used FrogTape® to tape off stripes and painted them turquoise and white.
Here is the sewing table put back together! I just LOVE how she turned out! 🙂 I’m excited for more sewing projects now that I have an adorable place to organize all of my stuff.
I was very excited about how well this tape worked for my sewing table makeover and will definitely be using the product again–it rocks! Now I want to get ALL the shapes they offer! 🙂
Shape Tape™ is available at participating Lowes and Walmart locations, and all Menards stores across the United States. For more info you can visit http://frogtape.com/index.php/products/frogtape-shape-tape. Be sure to follow @FrogTape on Twitter for more creative inspiration!
What a darling desk! And oh, the possibilities with the FrogTape. Don’t you love products like that that help make projects much, much easier? I can’t wait to try it out. Thanks so much for sharing, and enjoy your weekend!
Thank you for your sweet comment!! You’ve got to try out this Shape Tape, I’m serious. I totally loved it!
How beautiful! super special … gave me strength to make some changes in my mobile rather than sell it, appreciating my house! loved your blog and pinterest!
kisses
I LOVE this, wish I could snatch it up from you. It’s adorable and a perfect size. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been looking for a sewing cabinet since.
Where can I buy the scallop frog tape? I have searched online and can only find the chevron and wave pattern? Thanks!
Brooke! THANK YOU for sharing this! I had no idea there was such a thing as Frog Tape and I am going to HAVE TO, HAVE TO get some. I can’t stand when the paint bleeds through so I never use the painters tape (which means a lot of my projects don’t get finished).
OH MY GOODNESS! I LOVE your sewing cabinet re-do!!!!!!! I want to do this to my dark, dingy cabinet too! Turquoise is also a fave color of mine. Could you share the paint brand and colors you used? I would really appreciate it! I googled paint a sewing cabinet….and your page came up. I’m soooo glad I found it!
