Hello there! This is Katie from The Casual Craftlete Blog. I am so excited to be here today. The crafting chicks are some of my super friends and I am happy to share during their Mother Hen summer series. Today, I am going to be showing you how to make a Handmade Green Apple Mug Candle using just a few supplies you can purchase at your local craft store. This mug candle smells just like green apples and makes the cutest gift.

I love making candles! If you have never made a candle at home before, don’t be intimidated. It really is super easy with just a few supplies and steps. Last summer I made this Strawberry Lemonade Candle that is to die for.

Supplies (affiliate links):

Instruction:

Start by applying hot glue to the metal tab on the candle wick. Place the tab in the bottom center of the enamel mug. Wrap the wick around a straw or pencil to hold the wick up straight. Set aside.

Place 3 cups of natural soy wax flakes into a heat resistant bowl over a pot of boiling water. Using the double boiler method, melt the wax until completely dissolved into a liquid. Add 1/2 oz of apple candle fragrance oil to the melted wax.

Pour the scented liquid candle wax into the prepared enamel mug. Set aside and let harden. The candle wax will turn white once it is completely set and hardened. Trim the wick by cutting it with a pair of scissors.

To make the apple vinyl decal, I used my Silhouette Cameo because I had already purchased an apple design for a previous craft. I have both the Cameo and Cricut Expressions Air and love and use them both. The Apple Design ID is #65374. Open up the Design Store and size the apple to fit onto the mug. Send the apple image to your Silhouette Cameo to cut the vinyl. I used a quality permanent vinyl. I then used a weeding tool to weed the negative space of the vinyl image. Cut a piece of transfer tape to fit over the vinyl. To prepare the coffee mug, wash and rinse the mug. Use a cotton ball to apply rubbing alcohol to the outside of the mug where you plan on putting the apple. Let dry completely. Place the transfer tape on the coffee mug where you would like the apple to be. Use a scraper tool to run over the transfer tape to adhere the vinyl to the mug and carefully pull the tape off.
