Fruit and Veggie Painting

Hi guys! It’s Shauna from Ella and Annie, a kid friendly blog filled with crafts, recipes and more! We absolutely love being a guest over here at The Crafting Chicks. Today the girls wanted to make a fruit and veggie painting. We gathered some fruits and veggies from our fridge and started chopping! Feel free to try whatever you have on hand, we used potatoes, celery, brussel sprouts, lime, orange and apples.

Other supplies you will need:

  • paint
  • paper plates
  • paper

Let your kiddos go to town and get a little messy. Make sure to use washable paint and a disposable table cloth for easy clean up. Gently press the fruit and veggies into the paint and get creative! Rinse fruit and veggies when your done and add to a compost if you have one.

Ella created a cute little person and deer. She used the celery for the arms and legs, the potato for the head and brussel sprouts for the eyes. Annie created a beautiful flower using the brussel sprouts too! The citrus fruit created gorgeous textured stamps.

What totally blew me away was what my son Evan painted! He said it was a garden. Doesn’t it look like vegetables planted in rows?

I am always amazed at a child’s imagination. Give children the tools to create and their creativity will surprise you! Each fruit and veggie created a different print on the paper, they acted like stamps. We also noticed that that the fruits and veggies had different textures. Pretty neat, right?
