Hi friends! I am thrilled to be here to share how I built this fun, farmhouse style DIY family command center.Â
Tiffany here from Making the World Cuter today and I am so excited to share this project with you! This family command center has been on my to do list for quite some time, and I am so happy to finally have it all put together!

Family Command Center
For this project you will need:
- 1/8- 1/4 inch plywood cut to your specifications. I cut mine to 5 ft x 30 in, and just had the helpful guy at The Home Depot do it for me.
- 2- 1x4x10 (you’ll need one 10 foot board in white if you want to use the white for framing, or painted to your own color, the other could be 8 feet)
- Grabber Screws
- Stud Finder
- Stain in color of your choice. I used Minwax Whitewash Pickling.
- Spackle
- Sandpaper
- Paint Brush
- Hooks (I ended up using 11)
- Cup hook
- Clipboard
- Weekly Planner Printable
- Wire Baskets
- Desk Calendar
- Command Strips
- Dowel to hold paper roll
- Paper Roll
- Optional Decorations
The first thing you need to do is to sand the edges of the plywood and stain it.
While that is drying, it’s time to put up the frame. I cut the white board into two 30″ sections and found my first stud, my husband (ha!) and then using the stud finder found the stud on the wall. Attach the boards into the studs, 5 feet apart. Then my husband put them on the inside of the 5 foot section and then cut a 53″ section to place between the two.
Then using the stud finder mark the three studs in the middle. Attach a 26.5″ board at each stud. This will act as the support for your family command center. We didn’t frame in the top because it won’t be seen.
Attach the stained board to the frame and supports, and fill in the screw holes with Spackle.
Now it’s time to add all the fun!
Create Your Family Command Center
Using command strips, you can hang the desk calendar on the command center, and then attach hooks for keys and things you need to hang up.
Use more hooks to hang baskets. These rose gold baskets from Walmart are seriously cute and only cost a few dollars for the pair!
To build the kraft paper roll dispenser, you just need a couple small scraps of the leftover wood (stained), a dowel cut a few inches longer than the roll and 2 more of the hooks. Attach small scraps of wood to the plywood at the top of the board just outside what you need for the paper roll and then attach a hook to each. Place your dowel and your paper on the hooks. I use this  18″ masking paper, because it’s super inexpensive, which means that I can change out the quote or grocery list as many times as I want! Living the dream people!
For the clipboard with the printable Weekly Planner (that you can print for free over on Making the World Cuter), you can just screw in a cup hook, and hang the clipboard from it.
Then just add your decorations! I made a simple banner with canvas and burlap and made a small boxwood wreath using a garland and ribbon.
I love that you can customize this farmhouse style DIY family command center to whatever you need it to be! Come over to Making the World Cuter for more home decor, printables and fun gift ideas!
