Oatmeal M&M Cookie Mix in a Jar Neighbor Gift
The cutest Oatmeal M&M Cookie Mix in a Jar Neighbor Gift from the fabulous Emily at Is This Really My Life. We absolutely love the recipes she shares. This is a such a fun idea…a neighbor gift for your kids to help make. Deliver to neighbors and get to know some new people on nearby streets!
Hi! My name is Emily and I blog all kinds of delicious things (i.e., lots and lots of baked goods) over at Is This Really My Life. I’m so glad Crafting Chicks is sharing their Mother Hen’s Summer Survival Guide again this year. I always discover amazing new crafts and recipes thanks to all the awesome guests, plus I get to share some fun recipes like last year’s butterfly cupcakes (I could eat those pretzel wings by the handful).
Today I’m sharing an especially “sweet” and easy (can I get an amen for “easy”?) neighbor gift idea: oh-so-yummy oatmeal M&M cookie mix in a jar. Mmm…

This week’s theme is “Me on the Map” and it’s all about our community and our world. At first I thought it would be fun to share an international dessert that ties to my heritage (Irish apple cake..English scones…), but then a question recently asked at church had me rethinking that idea. Someone asked us how well we knew the neighbors on our street, and I realized there are a few families I’ve never met beyond a wave and a “hello.”
That’s just not right.
Next thing I knew, I was brainstorming a fun neighbor gift idea. Thanks to this adorable teacher appreciation gift I put together for Skip to My Lou, I was all about the mason jar. What better way to welcome new neighbors to your “map” than with oatmeal M&M cookie mix in a jar?

I found a yummy recipe for what are often called cowboy cookies and tweaked it ever so slightly. I found the amount of M&Ms and chocolate chips made it so my sugar spilleth over even after I’d packed those ingredients tighter than my jeans after the holidays. A slight adjustment and everything fit much better!
Add a polka dot cupcake liner, some white raffia ribbon and a printable gift tag with the recipe on back and you’ll be your new neighbors favorite neighbor in no time! The cutest gift…Oatmeal M&M Cookie Mix in a Jar Neighbor Gift!.
To assemble this oatmeal M&M cookie mix in a jar, place the following ingredients in the jar in the order listed (see photo below ingredient list). Make sure you pack it down as you go. I found my wooden tart tamper to be the right tool for the job. It fit perfectly inside the jar and the shape made packing the ingredients so much easier.
- 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1/2 cup M&Ms
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup white sugar

Speaking of cookies, these old-fashioned iced oatmeal cookies are one of my absolutely favorites. I don’t make them often because I can eat the entire batch in one sitting. Not lying. These oatmeal cookies are also a great way to welcome new neighbors!

Hi! What size mason jar best fits this recipe? Thanks!
A quart works best. We love using the wide mouth jars for things like this.
The links for the printable won’t work. I was hoping to have my group of little girls make this. A friend gifted us a jar a couple of years ago and I asked for the blog link because…too cute and delicious! 🙂 I could make my own tag if necessary, but I don’t know what instructions I’m missing to complete the cookies. Please help?
Let me see if we can find it. It was a guest post to our site so it might take a minute to dig it up. Thanks for letting us know it’s gone.
Thanks so much! I tried emailing her but haven’t heard anything back yet. You bloggers are busy! 🙂 Thanks again for your help.
I still don’t have the missing baking instructions- I got a broken link to the tag as well.
We are having issues with this right now since it was a guest post. We haven’t been able to get her link to work. I’m sorry.
