I am excited to share our favorite recipe for SOFT sugar cookies! I am a huge sugar cookie fan…but only if they are soft. I can’t stand hard cookies…it’s just not right!

This recipe is so easy and your friends and family will love them. Just add your favorite buttercream frosting. Any frosting will work. We’ve made these with strawberry frosting, chocolate frosting, etc.
sm sugar cookies 3 Ingredients for the Softest Sugar Cookies:

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. sour cream (don’t skip this part!)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla (or a little more:)
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract (only if you want, adds a little something extra:)
  • 3 cups flour for drop cookies,  3 1/4- 3 1/2  (for roll out cookies) flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

sm sugar cookies 1To make the Softest Sugar Cookies:

Cream together sugar, egg, softened butter, vanilla, and sour cream. In a separate bowl, combine dry ingredients. Slowly add this to your sour cream mixture. Mix well. For best results, refrigerate for 1-2 hours. You can either roll out the dough and use your favorite cookie cutters, or you can drop and flatten balls evenly on your cookie sheet.

Bake at 375 degrees for 6-7 minutes. Don’t over bake.

Top with your favorite frosting recipe! So yummy!
