We are excited to share some of our Halloween ideas this month and next…so look for our “Trick or Tweet” sign at the top of our new Halloween Posts and you can always click on “Halloween” in our archives to see some oldies but goodies from last year.

Today I am sharing my Felt Halloween Countdown with you today! I made this last year and don’t have step by step instructions for you…It was quite the process…coming up with the design…so taking pictures along the way would have been a nightmare!

I saw a similar one from Pottery Barn a few years back and Loved it. I love the retro feel and the home made feel…something my mom would have made for us as kids. And my kids love it!

The key to working with felt is a good, sharp pair of fabric scissors. Felt is so easy to cut, but with these scissors…even easier. I am a crazy cat and decided to cut out all of my numbers by hand  (halfway through, I realized I was really crazy!)  If you would rather not go this route, you could either get iron on numbers at the craft store…or even use a die cut or silhouette machine. I liked cutting mine out because I liked the size variation of the numbers on the countdown.

To hang my countdown, I painted a wooden dowel and wood rod ends (don’t know the real term for these) black and after sliding my felt countdown on, hot glued each knob to the end of my wooden dowel.

Letters on my countdown…I found these adorable polka dot iron on letters at Hobby Lobby and ironed them on white felt for a little border…then after cutting around them, hot glued them on the the countdown.

Ric rac makes everything cuter…so I found some JUMBO orange ric rac and sewed it along the edge to make a border.

Before sewing on my pockets…I sewed a 1 inch seam around the entire black felt countdown piece.

Black Piece: approx. 34 inches high and 22 inches wide:)

Orange Countdown Pockets:  Approx. 2.5″ high by 3″ wide

Then I added jack o’ lanterns, spiders, webs, bats, moons, witch hats & ghosts! SPOOOOKY!

And for the funnest part, adding little goodies and treats for your little ghouls!

Oh and watching them get excited each morning to count down the days! Countdowns make Holidays so much fun for kids! (and sometimes a little crazy for the moms!)

We would love to see your Halloween Countdowns…leave a message with your link!!!!!
