Hello, Crafting Chicks readers! I’m Laurie and I blog at Gallamore West, where I share cute crafts, fun little activities to do with kids, and sweet recipes. Summer is my favorite time of the year because I love having lots of time to spend with our four boys. One of my favorite ways to have fun with my boys is to do something fun while also sneaking in some learning (because I’m also a 1st grade teacher)!
Making Ice Cream in a Bag is a really fun way to incorporate a mini Science lesson into the middle of summer because it teaches them how salt makes the temperature around the ice cream colder so the ice cream freezes faster, plus it tastes amazing so the kids love it. Combining the ingredients into the bag is also a mini math lesson, so it’s a super sweet activity all around!

Another thing I love about making this ice cream is that it only requires a few simple ingredients. I love that. It doesn’t cost a bunch of money, and it doesn’t take forever to gather the ingredients. You might even have everything you need in your kitchen already.

Then pour 3 cups of ice and 1/3 cup rock salt into the gallon sized Ziploc bag. Seal the bag, making sure to let the air out. Wrap the gallon bag in a dish towel and gently shake & massage it for about 4 minutes. After about 5 minutes, you’ll have a single serving of soft serve ice cream. It’s simple and delicious!
