Pinewood Derby Printable Prizes that won’t break the bank! Cub Scouts comes with a tight budget, so I worked up these prizes that the boys will be proud to take home for just a few dollars.

As a mom of boys, I’ve experienced a few pinewood derby’s in my day and know how excited the boys get to make their own cars and then race it against their friends. I’ve tried a number of different things for the prizes, but have found that 2-liter bottles of soda are always a hit. They make for a pretty big trophy, and the boys can remove and save the rosette if they want, but the rest of it goes into the garbage (or recycling) and doesn’t clutter up a room.

Fanta is my favorite soda to use, I don’t know if it is the curvy bottles I like or the fruity flavors that the boys love that draws me to them. Orange Fanta is the closest thing I could find to a “gold” color in the soda aisle. I used grape for 2nd place and strawberry for 3rd place.

Derby Place Rosettes

Download the rosettes and cut out the different pieces. There are 4 long skinny pieces for the tail of the ribbon, 2 wider strips that get accordion folded and hot glued to make 1 longer strip, the round place piece and the 2 widest strips to go around the bottle.

Take the accordion folded piece and create a circle, hot glue a piece of paper on the back to hold it in place until the glue cools. You can decide how tight of a circle to make, and hot glue the place circle on the front.

Glue the tail pieces onto the back and trim to the length you want.
